Red Warriors are immortal. Like countless comrades from all over the world, we were shocked to hear of the early death of our comrade Julien Terzic this week. As a permanent member of Brigada Flores Magon, veteran of the militant antifa gang Red Warriors and for many years a social revolutionary activist, Julien was probably the best-known face of the highly influential Parisian Redskin scene at the turn of the millennium. The early years of Fire and Flames in particular were strongly linked to the political and countercultural environment that Julien was heavily involved in. Brigada released two albums on Fire and Flames Music and played various concerts for our label. The establishment of Fire and Flames in the european and worldwide left-wing radical counterculture in the noughties was strongly characterised in style and content by the impulses sent out by the Parisian scene around the RASH Barricata crew, CNT Vignoles and not least Brigada. The personal relationships were close and one also met in the street on the fronts of the anti-capitalist summit revolts. Julien was a central figure in this. At the time of the generational change in Fire and Flames ten years ago, Brigada had been inactive for some time and there had also been changes in the Parisian scene, so the formal relationship between Fire and Flames and Brigada came to an end. Nevertheless, our paths crossed again and again, not least after Brigada returned to the stage a few years ago and surprised with another strong album in 2022. One way or another, the influence of the culture and attitude that Julien represented on our current collective should not be underestimated. Anyone who was lucky enough to see Brigada and their followers in full effect during their early days for example at the legendary Rude Boys & Girls Unity Festival in Geneva back in 2002 was never the same again. Finally we can release the last band for Fire and Flames Festival 2024. We‘re already so excited for Les Testarudes - ska, rocksteady and reggae from catalonia. The nine women of Les Testarudes had their first concert together in May 2023. The project was born out of the need to create their own space within styles traditionally dominated by men.
