As for this one, I just wanted to make a banger like I used to. I had the melody lying around for a while and built the track around it, similar to how I used to make my tracks. Sometimes I would have a melody but nothing else, and then I'd be working on something else and think, 'Hey, that fits perfectly.' And then suddenly you have a well-functioning track.Back in the day, everything was completely analog. Now I work with Logic Pro X and a Mac mini M1 with a 24 in/out interface so I can use my hardware directly as plugins. Nowadays, I often start with a main hook and tweak it until I'm happy with it, then build the track around it. In '95, I was using an Amiga, so I could only really sample. Back then, I mainly worked with the idea of samples as the basis."
Check out "Break it down like this", the fourth and final track of the vinyl comeback of dutch funest original gabber dj Alex van Alff .
"I'm not sure what to say about this one, I found that sample funny and thought I'd try something with it. But there isn't really a story behind it.
Point 44 Records has always been a label that dares to poke fun at itself from time to time. Strange gimmicks and daring releases are more of a rule than an exception for Haarlem's first gabber label. The first vinyl release of the brand's 30th-anniversary jubilee, with the double 4, also simply follows this tradition.
Check out: "Nooit meer dansen"!
The second preview of the long-awaited return of Dj Alex van Alff in our hardcore universe is named Hardcore Rock & Roll.
You might think with a name like that it's heading in a certain direction, but the opposite is true. Because this record is also inspired by the 90s UK rave sound, where breakbeat and jungle predominated alongside the well-known piano melodies.
The record is secretly a homage to its heroes The Prodigy, Hippy Homeboy and a Funky Dred, kicks Like a Mule, Acen, 4Hero, Altern-8, Doc Scott. With a break that literally brought tears to label boss William Jordens' eyes when re-listening to the preview.
It instantly takes you back to those soft 90s where everything seemed possible and nothing was too crazy.
Check out Hardcore Rock & Roll here.
Finally, it's here – the preview of Point 44's debut track produced by DJ Alex. We're incredibly proud of this release, featuring four fresh tracks available digitally and on vinyl. True to form, we're bringing back the authentic gabberhouse sound from the 90s. DJ Alex has a special message for hardcore fans:
"I've always loved the vibe of dub, soundsystem, Jamaican, and Jungle vocals. The energy and rawness are what make them stand out."
