This year’s Buma Classical Lifetime Achievement Award went to a composer who has been an enormous influence on contemporary music: Theo Loevendie. His comprehensive oeuvre includes operas, orchestra pieces and chamber music. The jazz influence in Loevendie’s works is undeniable; after all, the 94-year-old composer is one of the great names of the Dutch jazz scene and has been for decades. “As a true icon, Loevendie more than deserves this award. Not only has he been a virtuoso on saxophone and clarinet all his life, he is above all an unrivalled composer of contemporary classical music, non-Western music and jazz”, says the buma cultuur jury about the laureate. We wholeheartedly agree. Congratulations, Theo Loevendie!

Tonight at Dachau/Germany: Art-house film “Father_Land_Scape” shows the life and work of holocaust survivor Abba Naor in nine chapters. The one-hour film is set to music by Mieczysław Weinberg and Dimitri Shostakovich. Visual artist Esther Glück from Dachau developed the idea, concept, drawings and directed the film. It premiered in October 2023 in the Bavarian Parliament.

Der Kunstfilm „Father_Land_Scape“ der Dachauer Künstlerin Esther Glück über den Holocaust-Lebenden wird kostenlos gezeigt.
