Swiss National Orchestra leitet neue Ära der klassischen Musik ein

Gestern, am 1. August, sorgte das Swiss National Orchestra (SNO) für eine bahnbrechende Darbietung im voll ausgebuchten Casino Bern. Unter der Leitung von john axelrod bot das Konzert eine Mischung aus Schweizer Kompositionen und weltweiten Meisterwerken.

Zu den Höhepunkten gehörten Sébastian Jacots mitreissendes Flötensolo und eine kraftvolle Wiedergabe der "Wilhelm Tell"-Ouvertüre.
Das Konzert verkörperte die Mission des SNO: klassische Musik allen zugänglich zu machen und traditionellen Elitismus zu überwinden.

Das Orchester wird seine globale Präsenz am 17. November 2024 mit einem Konzert unter der Schirmherrschaft der Schweizer Botschaft im Vatikan weiter stärken und so die musikalische Bindung innerhalb der Gemeinschaften fördern.🌍

"Now we have another find: a seminal new Deutsche Grammophon recording of the two-piano version, by Sergei Babayan and Daniil Trifonov, that realizes in full the magnitude of Rachmaninoff’s musical leave-taking. Their performance is in no way a replica. (...) Authentically rendered by Babayan and Trifonov, however, are Rachmaninoff’s magisterial fluidity of tempo and pulse, the heroic range of dynamics, the convulsive ebb and flow, seething and poignant, of an epic confessional. It is a validation overwhelming and unprecedented. (...) As scored for two pianos, this passage has always seemed to me makeshift, a transcription. But Babayan and Trifonov discover their own fullness of feeling here and make the spare texture sound essential. In fact, an elemental resonance informs the entire traversal. When Babayan and Trifonov performed in New York City in March 2018, their mastery of the Romantic two-piano idiom was instantly apparent: they are a historic tandem. (...) It culminates in a blaze of glory when a liturgical refulgence silences the “Dies irae.” Rachmaninoff’s private recording omits this humbling ending. Probably like no other classical artist, Andreas Scholl is universally loved with an overwhelming sense of happiness and pure bliss, wherever he appears. His infinite kindness, warm sincerity and profound faith and the deeply humane, humble presentation of his art give listeners comfort in their sorrows and, as audience members keep putting it, let many feel he makes them better human beings. What pure delight, what a night. Thank you Andreas and Edin.

Tonight Sergei Babayan inaugurated the new Steinway & Sons of the Auditorium del Conservatorio in beautiful Riva del Garda. Arvo Pärt's Für Alina, Liszt's Ballad no. 2 in B minor and the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach offered a stunning demonstration of all the colours, all the overtones, the rolling thunder, the pianissimo contemplation, the joyfully liquid runs, the dreamy airs such a fine instrument is capable of, when played by one of the greatest artists of our time.

David Hurwitz of Classics Today on Claus Peter Flor's recording of Mahler symphonies 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano: "Flor really gets Mahler. It is so exciting to hear a conductor who knows how to put the life, the jazz into this music. (...) One of my favorite moments of these performances is in the first movement of the Third Symphony - he is just tearing into it, he is really pushing, it's absolutely marvelous. (...) Flor is really good at Sturm und Drang. He gets the Angst. The Ninth is not one of those super slow, ultra-decadent performances; it is very much the work of a guy who was only fifty, at the peak of his powers when he wrote it. The tempos are generally quick. (...) It is a really excellent vision of the music. This is the indication of a real Mahler conductor, a seriously fine Mahler conductor. I would love for him to be able to record 2, 4,6, 8! Flor's vision of the music deserves to be captured. I am impressed by what he wants to do, and the degree to which he gets it done, in a place and with musicians whom you would never expect to be able to do it so well. Good for the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, congratulations for being smart enough to hire Claus Peter Flor to do Mahler with."
