Gazans work at a charcoal production facility, near displaced people's tents in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip. The family run charcoal facility gathers uprooted trees from the destruction caused by Israeli airstrikes and repurposes the wood into charcoal. It takes three days to produce the coal from start to finish and as people are displaced in tents, the need to protect from the approaching winter increases, as shortages in heating fuel persist. According to the UN, 'there continues to be a lack of an enabling environment to bring in sufficient humanitarian goods and commodities to the Gaza strip,' and around 1.9 million Gazans are displaced. 📸 EPA / Haitham Imad

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Sapper Training Center in the Chernobyl region trains hundreds of soldiers every year in the demining of various types of terrain. Their activity has increased since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022. Since then, the Ukrainian State Demining Service has destroyed more than 203,000 explosive objects.

According to Ukrainian authorities, Ukraine has become the most heavily mined country in the world, and some 156,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, which corresponds to about a quarter of the country's land area, could be contaminated with mines and other explosives.

It is estimated that when the war is over, it will take decades to clear the explosive remnants. 📹 EPA / Maria Senovilla
