G.SKILL OCWC 2024 - Top 9 now qualified for live event in Taipei

Earlier this week the qualification round for this years G.SKILL overclocking world cup ended. Now the top 9 is set in stone which will attend the live event incl. the final in Taipei during Computex 2024. I want to congratulate everone who spend their time and effort to participate.

I am fortunate enough to make it into the top 9 again as the competition is very strong this year. Everyone at the top is now using the ASUS ROG Z790 Apex Encore which has an absolutely refined bios for memory OC going into the Intel 14th gen.

Paird with blistering fast memory modules from G.SKILL this enables insane results like DDR5-9300+ CL28.

Personally it has been a rollercoaster ride with up and downs up until the very end but good preparation and determination lead to a positive outcome.

I want to thank G.SKILL, Intel and the HWBOT staff for their continuous support for Extreme Overclocking by organizing these large events which take a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make it all work.

Also I want to thank KINGPINcooling Bitspower and ElmorLabs for supporting me!

Oh oh 5th stage 😬 during the competition I fu**ed up big time.

I found a helpful yt vid from Roman Hartung that explains the process very well and therefore was able to bring this Intel chip back to life in no time. Thx for this type of unique content!

Spi 32m🥈 x c32_9050MHz

Last night the events were overturning with three top notch Spi32m results posted on HWBOT which were quickly overtaking the previous one. I guess I'm not the only one using the christmas holidays for overclocking :D
One of those scores that was holding the world record (again) for a few hours was my updated one which is now in second place only to the mad chip at Asus HQ. While this CPU can not quite match the core clock speeds of others I managed to win with efficiency and G.SKILL DDR5-c32_9000+ at full pot.

Below is the previous score for comparison with almost the same setup despite the bios version is now the latest 0080 which I recommend as it is very reliable. And of cause I worked some magic on timings to lower the spi32m time once more.

For a good guy that sends good memory I break out the good old OCZ prototype SS that came all the way from Vegas at the time (shout out to Charles)

Result: 9000MHz tight timings and a lot of fun! It's always good to see more options and especially rare ones like a non-rgb offering. My eyes say thank you Shannon Robb!

Insane! Those are still the old sticks from the OCWC 2023, I guess they have even better bins by now that one can just buy.

First time I use an ASUS mainboard since X299 Rampage Extreme Encore... and it's again an Encore!

Efficient Spi32m ambient run to learn memory OC on the Apex is the test I chose. Those blistering fast G.SKILL A-Die DDR5 7800MHz overclocked to 8600MHz extra tight for SPI32m.

I've purposely chosen not to push for CL32, because I can save so much volts and still be faster. I like things to stay alive. On cold CL32 is no problemo, so I've always kept a safety zone, hence I've never killed any DDR5 with none of the crazy results in the past.

It's approved!

EVGA Z590 DARK Kp and Intel 11900k

Coming from Z490 and X299 this was the mobo I had my breakthrough in the XOC scene and got me under EVGA’s umbrella.

As a bridge platform to the newer big-little approach the introduction of memory controller gears was definitely part of why this was very fun from an overclocking standpoint. You could go from very tight cl12 for spi32m to over 5000MHz DDR4 in Geekbench.

And there is something about the black and copper of that board that I’ve always loved. Last true retail package I‘ve gotten thought with all the heatsinks etc.

The competition is hard 😅 But it was fun seeing those MHz climb! Pretty crazy that his is now possible on a heavy benchmark like this. Only two generations ago we were around 7G.

During testing I found this nice CPU (out of 26). It brings massive clocks to the table. Me personally I think Intel has the superior platform pushing the boundaries of memory overclocking with great overclocking support in general.

Once again the fantastic G.skill memory was used to break this record that works flawlessly on the DARK KP.

And then there is of cause KINGPINcooling gear which gives me the consistency in extreme overclocking that I need. It delivered the same stable results time and time again which cuts down the amount of variables and takes out much of the guesswork.
