This week we are delighted to have great vocal performances from the band Das Große Los

The recordings will continue tomorrow.

Image 1: I take a photo of our vocal channel like this for every recording so that I can access the exact settings later. The special feature here is that we have switched both channels from the SPL Iron one after the other. The left channel with short attack and release times, the right channel with long ones as a leveller. Both channels intervene only slightly, but in this combination deliver a wonderfully even result without the compression being perceptible. I really don't know how we could top this setup. ❤️

We recorded Wolfgang Behn's Spectro amp through a 2 x 10 bass speaker from BS Systeme. As hardware, we used the Crescendo, the PQ and the Iron from SPL in front of our digital analogue converter (Merging Technologies Anubis Pro). The microphone is a Myburgh M1.

Vinyl, 45 u/min. Gerade sind die Belegexemplare gekommen. Pressung sieht super aus, die Seitenangabe auf der Platte hat eine angemessene Größe, da brauche ich Mal keine Brille. Sound ist super. 🌞😄🥂

What a heart-warming guitar recording with Pele Götzer and David Bartelt for the next Das Große Los record.

At the moment, my job makes me feel very privileged to be one of the first to hear such wonderful music. ❤️

For the nerds: A Samar Audio Design TF10 (I still don't know if it's the only one in germany) and a Myburgh M1 were used as microphones. Both have a very straight frequency response and are ideal for recording acoustic guitars. Other hardware in the recording chain included a Crescendo duo preamp, the PQ EQ and the Iron compressor (all SPL). The converter was the Merging Technologies Anubis. 🔥

To be heard from 2025 on vinyl, CD and all streaming services.

The most important thing when recording is to capture as much as possible of the artist's idea and the sound of the instrument.

Behind the Crescendo preamp, we have now firmly integrated our master channel into the recording path. Really funny, isn't it? 😊

You can take a look at our recording channel in the photos. The photos are all from today's recording session with Das Große Los 🔥

For vocal or mono recordings of instruments, we often start with the Myburgh M1 microphone. This is connected directly to the Crescendo, which passes the signal into the PQ. From here it goes into the IRON and from there via the Anubis converters into the DAW.

The Myburgh sounds a bit more modern than a U47 or a U67, as it has greater dynamics and is more open in both the bass range and the treble. If I want a vintage sound, I can achieve this very well with the IRON. I take one or two dB out of the signal with short attack times and activate the tape roll-off switch. That works really well.

If a customer wants a slightly darker and creamier sound, we add a few low mids via the PQ broadband beforehand and filter the highs appropriately. That's great for electric guitars.

In general, the PQ has changed the way I work. The device allows you to boost frequencies across the entire range without any negative effects. I used to work much more subtractively. But if the signal source sounds good, this is not really necessary here.

Arrived today after a long journey. The Wellspring from in Wales is certainly one of the most special devices we have in the microstudio. And it gives us the opportunity to offer completely analogue signal processing, as it has a great delay and a very deep and clear spring reverb.

This may be one of the first devices in a production studio in Germany. We are looking forward to extensive tests with the Wellspring. :)
