III. The Spark Catches Fire

Days pass, but the impact remains.
A teacher writes:
„My students talk about democracy like it’s a song they finally understand.“
A journalist calls it:
„A movement for democracy.“

I know: Change is not a sudden explosion.
It is a spark that spreads.
And that is exactly what is happening now.
I stand between the posters.
The colors, the words, the emotions crash over me.
Messages from other cities arrive:
„What’s next?“
And I know:
This is only the beginning.

Democracy is not a finished painting. Not a frozen moment.
It lives. It evolves. It grows.
It must be shaped, defended, and questioned—every single day.

As long as people raise their voices, ask the right questions, and stay creative, democracy will never fall silent.

Go vote. And vote wisely.

II. The Wall of Doubt
Sponsors back out. “Too political.”
A gallery withdraws. “Too risky.”
Some artists hesitate. “Better to stay silent for now. The world is on the brink of change.”

Doubt creeps in. I feel it. But I know:
Democracy was never meant to be comfortable. It has always been a fight.
So, I search for new spaces. I find them.
With every obstacle, my determination grows.
Then comes opening night. But this is no ordinary exhibition.
It is an outcry.

90 posters. 72 creatives. 29 countries.

Each image a question. Each work a statement.

A group of young people stops in front of a poster.
„If you are happy right now, someone else is bleeding for it.“
One of them whispers:
„This feels real.“
A mother explains an image to her child.
A small house in a dark forest—a ballot box.
But the people in the picture look lost.

The forest represents fear, the struggle to find one’s way. A vote that does not feel like freedom.
In the corner, two strangers start talking.
A conversation that might never have happened otherwise.
I look around. My heart is racing.

This is not a museum.

This is democracy—raw, alive, real.

DEMOGRAZIE - Designing Democracy
The story of Courage, Creativity, and Change

I. The Spark

I am a creative mind. Design, books, art projects—this is my language. I build bridges, open spaces between people, ideas, and worlds. Because creativity is more than aesthetics. It is a force. It moves.

Germany is my chosen home. But in recent years, it no longer feels that way. The looks are colder, the silence louder. Where words are needed, there is emptiness. Democracy is no longer a given. It is a responsibility.

Then comes this one night. Outside, everything is still. Inside me, thoughts are raging.
What if art could be a bridge? What if images could speak where words fail?
I reach for my notebook. I write just one sentence:
„Let’s design democracy.“

That evening, I send a message to Berlin.
„Can art still make an impact before the election?“

As we chat, a logo takes shape. A line, a form—more than just a sign. A symbol of something bigger.
We discuss, reject, start over. And then—suddenly—it is there: the idea. No longer just a thought. A project. A movement.

I post the first call to action. Hours later, my phone won’t stop buzzing. Messages from Berlin, Milan, Vienna, Paris, New York, Tehran.
„Yes! Let’s do this!“
„Can art really change anything?“

I know the answer:
Images stay. They burn into memory. They move people.
A spark is lit. Within weeks, it grows into a movement. 72 creatives from 29 countries. The first designs arrive.
Bold. Unsettling. Hopeful.

Then comes the resistance.

III. Der Funke springt über
Die Tage vergehen, aber die Wirkung bleibt.

Ein Lehrer schreibt:
„Meine Schüler:innen sprechen über Demokratie, als wäre es ein Song, den sie endlich verstehen.“
Eine Journalistin nennt es:
„Sich für Demokratie stark machen.“

Ich weiß: Veränderung ist kein Knall.
Sie ist ein Funke, der überspringt.
Und genau das passiert jetzt.

Ich stehe zwischen den Plakaten.
Die Farben, die Worte, die Emotionen prasseln auf mich ein.

Nachrichten aus anderen Städten treffen ein:
„Was kommt als Nächstes?“

Und ich weiß:
Das hier ist erst der Anfang.
Demokratie ist kein fertiges Kunstwerk. Kein eingefrorener Moment.
Sie lebt. Sie verändert sich. Sie wächst.
Sie muss geformt, verteidigt, hinterfragt werden – jeden Tag.

Solange Menschen ihre Stimmen erheben, die richtigen Fragen stellen und kreativ bleiben, wird Demokratie niemals verstummen.

Geht wählen. Und wählt weise.

II. Die Mauer des Zweifels
Sponsoren winken ab. „Zu politisch.“
Eine Galerie zieht sich zurück. „Zu riskant.“
Manche Kreative zögern. „Besser jetzt schweigen. Die Welt steht vor dem Umbruch.“

Die Zweifel sind da. Ich spüre sie. Doch ich weiß:
Demokratie war nie bequem. Sie war immer ein Kampf.
Also suche ich neue Räume. Finde sie.

Mit jedem Hindernis wächst meine Entschlossenheit.
Dann kommt der Tag der Eröffnung. Aber das hier ist keine Ausstellung.
Es ist ein Aufschrei.
90 Plakate. 72 Kreative. 29 Länder.
Jedes Bild eine Frage. Jedes Werk eine Antwort.

Eine Gruppe Jugendlicher bleibt stehen.
„Wenn du jetzt glücklich bist, blutet irgendwo jemand für dich.“
Einer von ihnen flüstert:
„Das fühlt sich echt an.“
Eine Mutter erklärt ihrem Kind ein Bild.
Ein kleines Haus im dunklen Wald – eine Wahlurne.
Doch die Menschen wirken verloren.
Der Wald steht für die Angst, sich zu verirren. Für eine Wahl, die sich nicht nach Freiheit anfühlt.

In der Ecke beginnen zwei Fremde ein Gespräch.
Ein Gespräch, das sonst nie stattgefunden hätte.
Ich blicke mich um. Mein Herz rast.

Das hier ist kein Museum. Das hier ist Demokratie – lebendig, roh, ehrlich.

DEMOGRAZIE - Designing Democracy
Mut. Kreativität. Veränderung

I. Der Funke
Ich bin eine Kreative. Design, Bücher, Kunstprojekte – das ist meine Sprache. Ich baue Brücken, öffne Räume zwischen Menschen, Ideen, Welten. Denn Kreativität ist mehr als Ästhetik. Sie ist eine Kraft. Sie bewegt.

Deutschland ist meine Wahlheimat. Doch in den letzten Jahren fühlt es sich nicht mehr so an. Die Blicke sind kälter, das Schweigen lauter. Dort, wo Worte nötig wären, herrscht Stille. Demokratie ist kein Versprechen mehr. Sie ist eine Verantwortung.

Dann kommt diese eine Nacht. Draußen ist alles still. In mir stürmen die Gedanken.
Was, wenn Kunst eine Brücke wäre? Was, wenn Bilder sprechen könnten, wo Worte versagen?
Ich greife zum Notizbuch. Schreibe nur einen Satz:
„Lasst uns Demokratie gestalten.“

Am Abend schicke ich eine Nachricht nach Berlin.
„Kann Kunst vor der Wahl noch etwas bewirken?“
Während wir chatten, entsteht ein Logo. Ein Strich, eine Form – mehr als nur ein Zeichen. Ein Symbol für etwas Größeres.

Wir diskutieren, verwerfen, beginnen neu. Und dann – plötzlich – ist sie da: die Idee. Kein bloßer Gedanke mehr. Ein Projekt. Eine Bewegung.

Ich poste den ersten Aufruf. Stunden später explodiert mein Handy. Nachrichten aus Berlin, Mailand, Wien, Paris, New York, Teheran.
„Ja! Lass es uns tun!“
„Kann Kunst wirklich etwas verändern?“

Ich weiß es:
Bilder bleiben. Sie brennen sich ein. Sie bewegen.
Ein Funke ist entzündet. Innerhalb weniger Wochen wird daraus eine Bewegung. 72 Kreative aus 29 Ländern. Die ersten Entwürfe trudeln ein.

Mutig. Verstörend. Hoffnungsvoll.

Dann kommt der Widerstand.

We did it!

Let me introduce you to the faces of DEMOGRAZIE – Designing Democracy.

Four intense weeks filled with passion, challenges, and relentless dedication – and now it stands: an exhibition that touches, inspires, and makes a statement. It wasn’t easy, but together, we made it happen! An incredible team from Germany, Austria, and Iran poured their hearts and souls into this project. Because that’s what it means to stand up for democracy – it takes strength, courage, and perseverance. But when we come together, it is possible.

- This is our contribution to preserving democracy. -

I am deeply grateful to all the creative minds – designers, artists, visionaries – who put their trust in me and agreed to take part, despite the short notice. You are the heartbeat of this project! A special thank you to my amazing team, who worked tirelessly to set everything up and face every challenge head-on.

If things didn’t always run on time – please forgive me. Four weeks to build such a meaningful exhibition was an enormous challenge. But one thing is certain:

We are loud.
We are visible.
We are many.

Let’s keep going. Let’s keep fighting for democracy!

Wir haben es geschafft!

Darf ich euch die Gesichter von »DEMOGRAZIE - Designing Democracy« vorstellen?

Vier intensive Wochen voller Leidenschaft, Herausforderungen und unermüdlichem Einsatz – und nun steht sie: eine Ausstellung, die berührt, bewegt und ein Zeichen setzt. Es war nicht leicht, aber gemeinsam haben wir es möglich gemacht! Ein unglaubliches Team aus Deutschland, Österreich und dem Iran hat sich mit Herz und Seele eingebracht. Denn genau das bedeutet es, für die Demokratie einzustehen – es erfordert Kraft, Mut und Ausdauer. Doch wenn wir zusammenhalten, ist es machbar.

🌱 Das ist unser Beitrag zum Erhalt der Demokratie.

Ich bin zutiefst dankbar für all die kreativen Köpfe – DesignerInnen, KünstlerInnen, VisionärInnen – die mir ihr Vertrauen geschenkt und trotz der kurzen Zeit zugesagt haben. Ihr seid der Herzschlag dieses Projekts! Ein besonderer Dank gilt meinem großartigen Team, das mit unermüdlicher Energie am Aufbau gearbeitet und jede Herausforderung mit mir gemeistert hat.

Falls nicht alles pünktlich lief – bitte verzeiht es mir. Vier Wochen, um eine so bedeutende Ausstellung auf die Beine zu stellen, sind eine verrückte Herausforderung. Aber eines steht fest:

Wir sind laut.
Wir sind sichtbar.
Wir sind viele.

Lasst uns für die Demokratie kämpfen!

Poster Exhibition »Designing Democracy«

In a world fraught with challenges and divisions, it is more important than ever to talk about democracy. Designing Democracy is political, provocative, reflective, and yet practical. This initiative invites you to make democratic values visible and to discover new ways to strengthen them.

“Democracy is our collective conscience against all that is evil and wrong”, says bestselling author and Creative Director Amir Kassaei. “This topic is of immense importance, and I wholeheartedly support it”, writes Fons Hickmann, a distinguished graphic designer known for his focus on cultural and social themes in the design world. “For me, modern democracy is like a ship with its sails down.”, adds Peter Bankov, the award-winning designer based in Prague.

The »Designing Democracy« project invites designers and creatives from around the world to rethink and visually reimagine democracy. The poster »DEMOGRAZIE« by Raban Ruddigkeit, the renowned Berlin-based designer and author, serves as a symbolic call to bring fresh wind to the sails of democracy.

An Exhibition: »Designing Democracy« – Visionary posters that make democracy visible and spark meaningful conversations.

In einer Welt voller Herausforderungen und Spaltungen ist es wichtiger denn je, über Demokratie zu sprechen. Designing Democracy ist politisch, provokativ, reflektierend und zugleich praxisorientiert. Diese Initiative lädt ein, demokratische Werte sichtbar zu machen und neue Wege zu finden, sie zu stärken.

In den vergangenen Tagen der Ausstellung bewegte uns der Besuch vieler junger Menschen tief. Ihre Fragen, ihr Interesse und die Gespräche über Demokratie eröffneten uns neue Perspektiven. Besonders berührend waren die Fragen wie: „Was bedeutet Demokratie für euch?“ und „Wie stellt ihr euch die Zukunft der Demokratie vor?“. Diese Gespräche zeigten uns, wie lebendig der Dialog über Demokratie bei der jungen Generation ist. Auch die Frage „Welche Plakate gefielen euch am meisten und warum?“ brachte uns wertvolle Einblicke und ließ uns die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven auf die Werke noch intensiver wahrnehmen. Ippazio Fracasso-Baacke, born in Parabita, Apulia, Italy, is a renowned painter and sculptor. After attending the Istituto d’Arte in Italy, he worked in various European countries before dedicating himself professionally to art in 1984. His works have been exhibited in major galleries and museums worldwide, including Paris, Vienna, and Berlin. Ippazio developed the artistic style of ‘Concrescismo’, which merges tradition and modernity. He has received numerous awards and invitations to prestigious events such as the Venice Biennale. In 2019, he was honored with the prestigious International Prize “Apulian Excellence in the World”. Artist Statement: As an artist, I felt deeply honored to be entrusted with the creation of A Tribute to Callas for Maria Callas’ hundredth birthday celebration in Verona. The opportunity to contribute to such a significant occasion filled me with immense excitement and gratitude. Maria Callas has been a guiding light in my artistic journey since I was 14, her music serving as both inspiration and solace as I navigate the complexities of the art world. Participating in this grand event was a deeply personal endeavor, driven by my profound admiration for Maria Callas and a heartfelt desire to pay homage to her enduring legacy. In capturing the essence of her resplendent costumes, I endeavored to encapsulate not only their visual allure but also the captivating essence of her presence and artistry on stage. Luca Lolli, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, has been immersed in artistic exploration since 1995. His multidisciplinary approach spans oil painting, photography, and wall painting. Influenced by Zen philosophy, he delves into meditation and inner reflection. Lolli’s recent work explores the relationship between nature, animals, and the void within human existence. He has exhibited extensively in Europe, with notable shows including „Chakra“, „Origine“ and “Claudia Oddo, sopran and Tiffany Ensemble”. Currently, he is showcasing his art in the A Tribute to Callas exhibition in Verona, marking his return to the artistic sphere with renewed depth and vigor. Artist Statement: In my latest creation, I found inspiration in a vintage photograph featuring Callas, marking a departure from my usual exploration at the intersection of painting and photography. Captured in a candid moment with her beloved poodles, the image reveals a lesser-known dimension of her character. Entitled Great Souls, my painting serves as a heartfelt homage to Callas, a luminous figure who graced the world with her boundless talent and humanity. By incorporating her cherished pets into the title, I honor their profound bond—an acknowledgment of the unconditional love and trust animals offer, enriching our lives in immeasurable ways. While much of the piece embraces a figurative style reminiscent of grayscale photography, I allowed other elements to take on a more abstract form. This deliberate transition symbolizes the intricate layers of Callas‘ persona and reflects my evolving approach to artistry. Through these artistic choices, I endeavor to convey not only Callas‘ complexity but also my own interpretation of contemporary art—a fusion of instinctive creativity and tangible expression, yet retaining an elusive essence akin to her profound selflessness and artistic depth.
