AUTOMOBILSPORT Magazin

AUTOMOBILSPORT Magazin World's most dedicated print quarterly, fueled with RACING, HISTORY and PASSION.

AUTOMOBILSPORT - RACING / HISTORY / PASSION

Happy 85th birthday to Norbert Singer, the Porsche engineering legend! Singer joined the racing department of Porsche in 1970 and played a huge part in their success until his retirement in 2004. Cars he designed and worked on, from the 917, the 2.8 RSR, the 935, 936, 956 and 962C, 911 GT1 and more, took 16 Le Mans victories. In 2019 we published his autobiography: "Norbert Singer – My Racing Life with Porsche 1970–2004", which is still available in our shop www.sportfahrer-zentrale.com.

Brabham & Lotus?
Yes this is real. After leaving Cooper in the end of the 1961 season Jack Brabham used a Lotus 21 and a Lotus 24 as interim in 1962, before his own Brabham car was ready.
This is him with the #24 at Spa, where he finished 6th. Later this car was raced in South Africa and currently it's racing in the HGPCA. Find the story of the ex Brabham Lotus in our issue

The one-off McLaren M9A was a four wheel powered F1 car. It had its only race with Derek Bell at the 1969 British GP. In this season some manufacturers and teams experimented with 4WD-cars, but none of them were successful.

What Revival really means!
This is not 1964 – Jim Clark fighting John Surtees – but 2024 Andy Middlehurst fighting Joe Colasacco at the Goodwood Revival. Even though Jim and John are sadly no longer alive, their cars (Lotus 25 & Ferrari 1512) and their spirits live on.
