10 years ago we celebrated the premiere of our first production I WANT TO SEE THE MANAGER by Hannes Lang. The world premiere took place in the main competition at CPH:DOX (the cinema was called Dagmar), and shortly afterwards it opened KASSELER DOKFEST (in a cinema called Gloria).

The feature-length documentary film, which was co-produced by Miramonte Film from South Tyrol and ZDF / Arte, was filmed over the course of six months in seven countries on three continents.

It was a slightly megalomaniac endeavour (for a production debut), but we managed and we were super grateful for all the support and great collaborations. Nevertheless, we are still looking for the manager.

During the summer break, the KINDL invites visitors to an open-air film programme exploring the topic of fragility both artistically and thematically. The curated selection, titled “States of Fragility”, features seven short films by contemporary international artists and directors. The overarching theme of fragility and its far-reaching facets connects all the films. It's a wrap for 2 out of 3 shooting periods of Hannes Lang's THE CLOUD FACTORY.

The short film is an experimental exploration of the Rhenish lignite mining region, currently home to 52 active power plant units and three of the ten highest-emission coal-fired power plants in Europe. However, this region is far from being a deserted, electricity-producing industrial area; it has been a densely populated habitat for centuries. At this location, THE CLOUD FACTORY takes the ephemeral phenomenon of clouds as an opportunity to explore human hopes, dreams, and visions of the future in the context of our present, which is strained by climate and energy crises.

THE CLOUD FACTORY is a PETROLIO production in co-production with ZDF/Arte and is part of the series "La Lucarne.” The production is supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), the IDM Südtirol, and the Office for Film and Media of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol.
