THE MISSION

Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest is now in its fourth year and in 2020 we are looking to expand the horizons of the festival making it more interesting, international & film-maker friendly. Here you can present your work to a live audience in one of the most beautiful & famous cinemas in the Europe - The Babylon Cinema, Berlin. 2019 featured some amazing guests including: Sebasyian Khayat (VFX co-ordinator on Shazam & Hellboy), Robert Fitzhugh (Director of Dublin Smartphone Film Festival) & Alex LeMay (Content Creator & producer for Universal Studios & YouTube Red). As part of this year submissions, ALL ENTRANTS will receive: 1) A special 20% discount code to Producer/Director Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull Sci-fi Filmmaking masterclass series - Filmmaking 101. (preview: vimeo.com/ondemand/filmmaking101) 2) A complimentary copy of Anthony Straegers 'Creating Success with your Submissions'. THE LOCATION

We are happy to announce that our partnership with Berlins' world famous Babylon Cinema will continue. This unique cinema first opened in 1929 for silent movies, it had an orchestra pit and a cinema organ which is still used today. It has three screening areas. Alexander Pfander - Festival Director

I am a scriptwriter, director & creator of films and series, with a strong interest in storytelling and new world creating. My media experience includes editing and post-production and am the creator of the award winning Sci-fi Webseries, Mission Backup Earth. I’m always looking for new adventures in the media world and as a Sci-Fi fan I want to connect filmmakers and audiences by showcasing work from around the world that celebrates the Sci-Fi genre. Anthony Straeger - Festival Director

I have been in the business for over 30 years, both as an actor and filmmaker. It's a joy to be part of the launch of this festival. I have a love of both Horror and Sci-Fi movies and with the development of technology it is truly astounding the quality that people are now producing on virtually no budgets. My first feature Call of the Hunter was a low budget, but relatively successful movie. Since then I have been involved in writing and producing a number of projects. WEBSITE

Isabella Hermann – Festival Director

Isabella Hermann is a political scientist by training and a science-fiction fan by passion. She holds a PhD in International Relations and talks and writes about how science-fiction interacts with world politics and mirrors societal challenges. In this sense, science-fiction shows us not only alternative futures, but makes us think about in what kind of future we want to live in.

Isabella works as scientific coordinator of an interdisciplinary research group on artificial intelligence at Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities at Popular Political Science. WEBSITE
