Ebullition Records was always inspiring to us as a Label - I was proud when my band Zann got a good review at Hearattack or Kent & Lisa helped us with US distribution for ADAGIO830 or we were able to play Goleta there with TAKARU etc etc etc - this interview is a good read. And we are honor that Kent & Lisa for staying real and just doing their thing.

RIP Armin

I can't remember exactly when Armin came into my life. It must have been in the mid-90s when I fished an X-Mist flyer out of a Walter Elf LP and I ordered a mail order list with a stamped envelope. When it arrived, it was studied at length again and again. The descriptions aroused so much interest and at first I couldn't decide at all. I always wanted to discover something new - and I could do that here. There was always something I didn't know and wanted to discover. There wasn't just the standard mush that was everywhere. So my musical horizon was suddenly broadened, because until then I had only found the local record shop and We Bite records as a source for new recordings. Armin then managed to satisfy my curiosity for new and unknown things. All of this has had a huge impact on my listening habits and the way I consume music. I really got to discover a lot of great bands through him and it was sometimes a shame that a lot of people didn't trust his taste until the bigger media became aware of the bands. He always had a good nose for good music ... at least for music that I also loved.
At the end of the 90s the first record came out on ADAGIO830 and X-Mist was one of the first simply including the release in their programme, which made me very proud at the time. Somehow you cared about what Armin wrote - because you knew that the review was always honest and not based on sales figures.That hasn't changed over the years. He was one of the few who always wrote the description in the mail-order himself and didn't just copy the press info. And I was even more excited when he included the first demo of my band ZANN in the catalogue and he wrote a good review ... Somehow it came to an exchange of letters and in 2001 to the first label split-release of the evergreat Flamingo Massacres LP. For me it was just the second release but despite that the whole release was always on par and transparent between us. Exactly that was one of the many things that made Armin and X-Mist. He never patronised you or tried to insist on his experience. That meant a lot to me then and still does.
The first time we met in person was at an off day on the Zann/Iceburn tour, when he took us in and hosted us. We strolled through the weekly market in Nagold with recommendations from the house and then went shopping at the X-Mist shop.
Thank you for everything, your support and energy, the enthusiasm and even if we didn't always agree, I always appreciated your honesty. It would be boring if we always thought of the same things in the same way. Criticising each other doesn't mean you don't show each other respect. Always talking after each other's mouths wouldn't get anyone anywhere, and I think that's exactly what I appreciated about Armin. You could have a discussion and exchange points of view. This always led to new perspectives and movement should also be further development.

Our friend Jack Shirley celebrates 20 years of recording at ATOMIC GARDEN. I can't believe it has been already 20 years. Still remember when this was still in Redwood City and then Palo Alto were also Dan Africa printed a bunch of Zane shirts for one of our tour. Great memories ... times flies.
