Anna Rakitina leads the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker in Richard Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony, capturing the dramatic ascent and descent of a mountain hike. Reinhold Messner adds a unique touch with texts and photos from his alpine expeditions, creating a dialogue between music and nature.

Following these performances, Anna Rakitina will appear at the Musikverein in Vienna, where she will conduct, among other works, Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11.

✨ A special evening is coming up with pianist Alexandra Dariescu making her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor—a work of dazzling beauty and virtuosity, composed when Clara was just 16.

Clara Schumann, one of the 19th century’s most celebrated pianists, premiered the concerto herself in 1835, showcasing inspiration from Chopin, a composer she deeply admired. The programme also reflects the rich artistic connections of the Romantic era, featuring music by Clara’s husband, Robert Schumann, whose dramatic Manfred Overture opens the concert, and their close friend, Felix Mendelssohn, with his majestic Symphony No. 5 “Reformation”.

Alexandra, celebrated for her dedication to performing gender-balanced programmes, recently released an album of Clara Schumann’s concerto paired with Grieg’s Piano Concerto (with Philharmonia Orchestra, conductor: Tiani Lu, Signum Classics) —highlighting her passion for creating compelling musical narratives.

This January marks the return of the celebrated collaboration between Jan Lisiecki and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields ✨

Their bond was forged in 2018 when Lisiecki stepped in on very short notice to perform all of Beethoven’s piano concertos, replacing Murray Perahia. The press hailed it as “a stellar moment, a stroke of luck, a brilliant concert.” The cycle was later recorded live at the Berlin Konzerthaus and released by Deutsche Grammophon in celebration of the Beethoven Year.

🎶 Now, they reunite for an extensive tour across Germany (with a stop in Innsbruck). Over 19 concerts in 13 cities, they will present three different programs, performing all of Beethoven’s piano concertos, as well as the Triple Concerto, joined by renowned Cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and Tomo Keller (violin). Keller, the Academy’s artistic director since 2016, will direct the orchestra from the violin together with Jan Lisiecki, who will direct the piano concertos.
