FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE - OUR OWN FILMKUNSTBAR FITZCARRALDO SOCIAL NETWORK https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-living-oblivion-1995-rating-80-dvd2692 Steve Buscemi plays these characters that have no place in the world - and yet they insist on being there! Buscemi was a used car salesman and Paparazzo - nowhere welcome and yet present. This time he's an indie film director trying to finish a no-budget production. The cheap drama that the overburdened young filmmaker pieces together with other chaotic people is getting out of hand. All this happens with a desperate serenity that makes it clear: Director Tom DiCillo speaks from his own experience. Basically, his comedy has become a disaster report of his own failure. Living In Oblivion is arranged like three overlapping short films. In the center, the director: A beginner, of course known to the greats and in love with his main actress. His lead actor Chad Palomino (LeGros) gives him the worst headache. With his talent for flirting, he turns the female actresses against each other. Misdirected explosions and broken fog machines or senile mothers on the set do the rest. A single nightmare. Living In Oblivion is cleverly told between "reality" and "film". DiCillo knows the practical basics of filmmaking and knows that it's not only technical breakdowns that cause disaster. He allows us a glimpse behind the scenes and puts us in a very pleasant position: We can laugh loudly about the downfall of others!

Diane Keaton Filmlist on CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/diane-keaton Diane Keaton represented one thing above all else: style. And freedom! Just look at her clothes in Annie Hall; a masterful mix of second-hand and haute couture. A look that expresses her personality, and probably no film has achieved this more than Annie Hall. Yet Keaton never seemed to care how she was perceived. She simply enjoyed dressing up and inspired an entire generation to go their own way. Most of Keaton's films are not that well known, yet they grossed almost a billion dollars in total. Keaton is at the forefront of a group of actresses such as Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver, critically examining the second and third waves of feminism and refusing to be a s*x symbol according to other people's ideas. And she was adaptable! After all, Keaton became a star in the romcom genre during the 1990s. Keaton was always at the forefront of the spotlight, being both mainstream and progressive. Her films were for everyone. Incidentally, she was born Diane Hall and celebrated her breakthrough in Woody Allen's Play It Again, Sam. This was followed by Woody Allen slapstick comedies and then Coppola's Godfather. For years, she was romantically involved with her co-stars, whether Woody Allen or Al Pacino. Then Woody Allen wrote a screenplay tailored specifically for her. It was a character study about a murdered woman (although this plot element was left out of the final film: Diane Hall became Annie Hall). It was roles like these that made her a legend, while her clothing style made her an icon.

On one side is Nicola (Franco Nero), who returns to Naples during the 20's to become a lawyer. He clashes with Don Gaetano Fungillo (Fabio Testi), the leader of the "Guappi", the local Camorra. This sectarian organisation is deeply rooted in the life of the city. Nicola studies law to change the system from within. Don Gaetano, in turn, lands on the other side of the bars. Both are of course also divided by a woman, embodied by Claudia Cardinale. About ten years ago I bought all relevant DVD releases from Koch Media. Among them the jewelry version of Blood Brothers with a thick booklet and cardboard box. When I recommend the Mafia epic to customers of our video store, I always compare it to the works of Visconti. And director Pasquale Squitieri adds a political note to the action by fading in images from the 60s at the end. Nothing has changed.

Film List on CINEGEEK.DE (our own social media for geeks !!!) Claudia Cardinale https://www.cinegeek.de/claudia-cardinale Claudia Cardinale, THE female film star of post-war Italian cinema and certainly of her era, has died at the age of 87. Raised in Tunis in a family with Sicilian roots, she came to film in 1957 after winning a beauty contest in Tunis. She had to be dubbed for her first roles, as she grew up speaking French. Those familiar with her biography know that she became pregnant at an early age in an abusive relationship. For years, she passed her son off as her little brother. He was born in 1958 and grew up with his grandparents. By 1963 at the latest, she was internationally famous thanks to Fellini's 8 1/2 and Visconti's The Leopard (in whose epic Rocco And His Brothers she appeared in 1960). These films paved her way to Hollywood; Blake Edwards' Pink Panther was also made in 1963, followed by Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West in 1968. You will surely notice that she appeared in four of the best films of all time in a short period of time! In the early 1970s, however, she suffered a career setback when she separated from producer Franco Cristaldi. Cristaldi called for a boycott of Cardinale. At the end of the 1970s, she appeared in a mini-series by Franco Zeffirelli, Jesus of Nazareth, and in 1982 in Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo (and that makes five of the best films of all time!). Unlike Brigitte Bardot, for example, we are familiar with Cardinale's films. In this sense, she is not a star, but above all an ACTRESS who also had a theater career. What we know about Cardinale as a person is that she stood for the independent, free-spirited women of her time and appeared at a meeting with the Pope wearing a miniskirt. Later, she turned almost entirely to the theater, where she achieved great success. In 2002, she visited us in Berlin and was honored for her life's work—a life that, according to Cardinale, encompassed more than 150 lives!

Film List on CINEGEEK.DE Robert Redford https://www.cinegeek.de/robert-reford Robert Redford was an actor, director, mentor, and activist. He was both approachable and larger than life. He was more handsome than most Hollywood stars, yet we never felt distant from him. He founded the Sundance Film Festival, forever changing the landscape of indie film. FILM would certainly not be the same without Robert Redford, because thousands of people are in the business today thanks to Sundance. He used his power for good causes. Since 1967, since Barefoot in the Park and especially since Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the film that appeals to every audience. Take a look at the list and you'll get an overview of American filmmaking as a whole!

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-der-grosse-gatsby-great-gatsby-1974-rating-64-dvd905 This superficially beautiful film adaptation does not have much in common with F. Scott Fitzgerald's prose. But that is probably true of most literary adaptations, because although the film remains faithful to the original in terms of the external plot, it does not capture the mood and spirit of the original. Many believe that Fitzgerald, who came from the Midwest, IS Gatsby: a man who simply replaces his humble roots with a new personality. And yet something always remains out of reach for him: the lost love of his youth. In fact, if you read contemporary film reviews, there were even concerns about whether the late Robert Redford could embody Gatsby at all. Was Redford too masculine, too handsome, too self-confident? Or do you think Redford is the romantic man doomed to failure? As far as I understand the novel, Gatsby remains the romantic from the Midwest despite his crooked dealings. But his idealism is doomed to failure by his ruthless wealth. Does that come across in the film? I think that without having read the novel, you'll hardly be able to pe*****te the mystery of Gatsby. And his great love, Daisy Buchanan? In the novel, Gatsby doesn't understand that Daisy is simply not good enough for him. In the film, thanks to Mia Farrow's nervous performance, we don't understand why Gatsby thinks Daisy is good enough for him at all.

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-paper-moon-1973-rating-90-dvd5024 Peter Bogdanovich's film about the Great Depression is like a tribute to the filmmaking of the time. We experience the story of Addie, a little girl. Addie sees the world just as it is and that's probably why she almost never smiles (although she can't get down either!). Paper Moon starts at her mother's grave, whose interests certainly weren't for her daughter. A photographer tells us that Addie's mother was the worst kind. Addie herself looks like a tomboy in a flannel shirt with a cap. During the funeral, an ancient car approaches at the last minute with a Bible salesman who could possibly be Addie's father. His name is Moses and he is played by Ryan O'Neil. Both sell Bibles to widows who allegedly ordered the deceased men, and Addie does even better than her teacher. The Bible deception is used by Bogdanovich on the one hand as a game that joins the two together - but on the other hand it is also deeply moving.

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-jackie-brown-1997-rating-90-dvd2134 Ordell überlegt lange. Die Kamera lässt ihn, hält einfach drauf. "It's Jackie Brown!"

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE (our own Social Network) https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-cruising-1980-rating-80-dvd8638 The film leaves the most important question unanswered (and a bit disappointed): How does the New York cop (Al Pacino) really stand about homos*xuality? Does Friedkin lack the courage to answer this question in the film? Or did I miss something? Is he perhaps even involved? Who is in truth the murderer? Cruising doesn't tell us that. Friedkin's film is controversial. He dives into the New York S*M gay scene and is accused of misrepresenting their lives. It almost seems as if the discussion about the film has displaced the open questions Cruising doesn't dare to answer. As a crime thriller Cruising has gotten mightily confused; a chaos! Or is it chaotic because Friedkin simply didn't dare to clearly assign Pacino's character to the S*M scene? How can we understand the last scene when the cop's girlfriend covers his leather gap and the canvas fades black? But at least: Friedkin's film looks outstandingly visualized, holds out a high tension from the very beginning and explores an alien milieu for us. That must be enough.

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-der-volltreffer-sure-thing-1985-rating-90-dvd6649 Rob Reiner's second film is a small miracle. It's not about "Sure Thing", a willing woman without an inner life, but about how two teenagers fall in love. Everything begins in a classroom: John Cusack as Walter falls in love with his classmate, but behaves so clumsily that she advises him to leave her life better. Thereupon, at the invitation of a friend from L.A., he plans a trip across the country by passenger, because there the girls are supposedly willing and do not ask long. But also his classmate wants to visit L.A., her friend, a future lawyer... A road movie and on the way both argue, gain common experiences, laugh and suffer. Both talk and think like real teenagers, they are shy about s*x and yet eager to experience something. But that s*x only becomes beautiful in connection with love and respect is the simple and equally revolutionary message of Rob Reiner's film! When they meet in the end, it's the same for us viewers! To discover: The best teen comedy of the 80s!

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-ard-b-movie-lust-sound-west-berlin-1979-1989-2015-rating-90-dvd8318 A warm promise from the past! A film that forges cohesion, among those who have experienced it, but also unites those who would like to experience it! Mark Reeder came from Manchester to West Berlin in 1979 on a route that did not seem easy: through the German democratic republic. In the island city, the military fetishist and label boss finds his way into the New Wave/Punk scene. He meets Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld or Gudrun Gut and plays in a Jörg Buttgereit film. Reeder opens his video archive and we experience never seen material: Nena as a street singer or Nick Cave, who shows us his German Gothic collection as well as his C**t. Deadly Doris plays at Potsdamer Platz (which was still Potsdamer Wiese at the time), The True Heino is sued by the "real", Ideal collect money for squatters and Blixa Bargeld explains why he never went to East Berlin. Not all the material is new, but thanks to the charming way shipowners introduce us to West Berlin, we suddenly feel right at home! The documentary becomes a biopic! When shipowners moved to West Berlin on the tracks of German Krautrock, I was six years old. Nevertheless, names like Gudrun Gut still shine in the 90s, so that many things still seem familiar to me. For those who couldn't experience the 90s, B-Movie is also a great service, because the documentary brings to life the myth of an island of the pure avant-garde! Mark Reeder, however, does not act as a braggart who transfigures the past, but rather as an outside insider who seems more like an astonished child. Despite the subtitle Lust & Sound in West Berlin 1979-89, B-Movie doesn't end pessimistically either, but with a view of techno-loving Berlin. But Mark Reeder has to return to Manchester with a Berlin collapse...

FREE ON CINEGEEK.DE https://www.cinegeek.de/free-youtube-farewell-my-concubine-lebewohl-meine-konkubine-bawang-bieji-1993-rating-90-omeu Chen Kaige plays two films at once: an epic of China's recent history and a drama behind the scenes of the Beijing Opera. At first glance, this may not seem logical: What does the birth of a modern nation have to do with the extinction of a traditional form of theatre? But everything in Farewell My Concubine flows effortlessly into one another. We are overwhelmed; so much so that objectivity doesn't matter any more anyway. In the beginning we see how two orphans are prepared for their theatre careers. Years later they reach their zenith, are famous. Douzi (Leslie Cheung) in the role of concubine as transvestite, Sh*tou (Zhang Fengyi) as king. A life outside their roles is not granted to either of them. Their relationship survives the Second World War, finally the Cultural Revolution. Although famous, they are politically undemanding. The relationship between the two is not balanced. While Douzi has homos*xual feelings, Sh*tou marries the beautiful Juxian (Li Gong). She is the heroine of the movie and stands by both men. Just as the royal Peking opera survives the red times of communism, when Anachrosnimus is accepted, the relationship grows. Can the two even develop their own personality, detached from the other? But the Cultural Revolution is a time of mutual denunciation. Douzi in particular has to suffer as a result. Finally, Xiaolou denounces him as a homos*xual; he in turn denounces his friend's wife as a ho**er. Obviously director Chen Kaige has his own experiences with the cultural revolution... Farewell My Concubine won the Cannes Film Festival and was subsequently banned and performed again. Especially the homos*xual aspects of the story might have been difficult for the communists. Considering the circumstances under which the film was shot, the calm, the elegance of the work is almost monstrous! It is also wonderful with how much love for detail the Peking Opera is presented! And with what colours! A modern epic that takes us to a strange place in a different time. A modern classic!
