We know we are preaching to the choir here but can we talk about groundwater?

In the Berlin area, we heavily depend on groundwater. It is – among others – affected by climate change, due to rising temperatures, intense rainfall and in general an increasing overexploitation. We believe that it is imperative to sensitize the general public and the decision makers to ensure the sustainable future use of water.

As part of the successfully finalized EU co-funded project digital-water.city, we partnered up with Kompetenzzentrum Wasser and Berliner Wasserbetriebe to create an AR app that integrates a 3D geological model of the Berlin area with groundwater flow simulation data to immerse the user into the geological subsurface.

🚰 The solution provides a new communication channel between utilities and citizens.
🚰 The ability to run and visualize simulations goes beyond the static depiction of facts and figures, making it possible for the public to interact with and assess its perception on drinking water sources.
🚰 It visualizes geology and groundwater and highlights their relevance as a drinking water resource and a “hidden part” of the water cycle.
