Operating since 2003, Blackhead Studios are a globally respected mastering and mixing studio in Berlin, Germany. We offer a range of mixing and mastering services to artists, creators, publishers and record labels who wish to enhance the performance and presentation of their music. Led by Klas ‘Sasse’ Lindblad, our team of audio engineers now resides at Novalisstrasse in the vibrant Mitte district

. Our IRT certified studio was built in 1990 for ARD (German Public Broadcast Company). Refurbished in 2016 to create a modern audio production suite, consisting of three rooms, each fully equipped with the finest analog equipment from KNIF, Gyraf, Maselec & Bettermaker as well as state of the art Genelec and Amphion monitoring. Some artists who have loved our work include Fatboy Slim, Booka Shade, Maceo Plex, Henrik Schwarz, Rodriguez Jr, Dr. Dru, Hot Since 82, Michael Mayer, Eats Everything, and Tensnake. We are proud to list Native Instruments, Southern Fried Records, Radikon, Knee Deep In Sound, Mobilee and Ellum Audio amongst our regular clients.

Automation in mastering and when to apply?

There are a few ways to apply volume automation to masters, and we will discuss 2 of them.
1. Preprocessing volume automation, good to drive level into compression or any other dynamic processing for more/less processing.
2. Post limiter automation, good to keep energy level high, yet make space and raise anticipation for the drop.

2. Clean, punchy Pro Tools in-the-box summing
3. Either option printed on a Studer tape machine to get the true vintage sound

If you're not sure what best suits your sound, we'll help you choose the right medium for your songs.
