Shortcutz Berlin is a showcase for new and existing talent that supports discussion and the sharing of ideas between professionals, students, amateurs and anyone passionate about film. In our monthly screenings we show 3-4 films followed by Q&As with the film directors. You can usually find a mix of fiction, documentary, animation and experimental short films dedicated to a theme. Carlos Pereira brings us Slimane, a beautiful film that has the near future Germany as background. In this reality, q***r people become, even more, marginalized and under threat. On the last day of winter, Omar is released from prison. As a first stop he visits Ava, his best friend, who didn’t expect to see him. The world keeps falling apart and fear seems to defeat hope.

The Hidden Dimension is an intimate portrait of q***r photographer Leo Maki. A dreamlike journey into his mind that explores the artists life in Poland, the creative process behind his work and the embrace of his own sexuality. We're delighted to share this film from Ben Galster with you during our Wednesday screening.
Amir Ovadia Steklov brings us Bi The Way which is a short, funny, and intimate animated film about Amir’s life-journey as a bisexual cis man.
The film tells Amir’s story from early childhood until present day, highlighting his struggle to fit into binary culture making him unacceptable to the heteronormative community and invisible in the LGBTQIA community.

The main characters embark on a magical journey through the darkness in search of intangible ghosts. Unexpected sympathies develop from this experience, even though the spirits around them never quite disappear.

Lewis is mugged outside of a seedy looking dental clinic. The robber punches him in the face after taking his wallet, knocking one of his teeth out. Lewis enters the dental clinic to see if they can fix his missing tooth. The receptionist assures him that without money or insurance they can still fix his tooth, just that they will work it out after the operation. However the costs of this intervention, comes with a twist. We can not wait to share the film Central Dental by Lindsay Robinson with you on the 14th February.

Lindsay Thomas Robinson brings us an immersive short film called Gumball Factory, which takes us on a journey inside a Berlin candy machine. We travel through it to see an abstract interpretation of how the candy is manufactured. Join us on Wednesday to watch Gumball factory and have a drink with us at Z-Bar.
HYSTERESIS is an experimental film brought to us by Robert Seidel that explores the lag between recording analogue drawings and projecting them onto a queer performer’s choreography to create dense feedback loops. Join us tomorrow to see it in the lovely Z-Bar cinema room.
Our Shortcutz Team Special mention for 2020 goes out to the amazing Francy Fabritz and her film Revolto. Apart from being thought provoking, this movie is beautifully shot and produced and it has been made with love and a very special sense of humour. We could not have been happier to have had Francy has a guest and to screen her amazing film. A big thanks to her and the whole crew!
