Covering Ukraine podcast
“It was experience that I never had. And… I think every one of us is changed. Because of what we heard, what we saw… You can't be untouched in such a situation.
Because this what happened in #Ukraine, it can be in Bulgaria. It could be in Poland, in Slovakia and Czech. Everywhere” said Bulgarian journalist Krasimir Krumov, as he was leaving Kyiv with the Europe-Ukraine Desk, a n-ost project.
Listen to him and other fellow journalists discovering Ukraine under Russian full-scale invasion in our 3 episode mini-series of our podcast Covering Ukraine. We suggest you start with Episode 1 “Enter Ukraine” to accompany them on the train heading to Kyiv, full of questions and expectations.

Call for Pitches
n-ost are looking for interesting story ideas about economic issues that bring together the local and the global. Our starting point is geopolitical competition between the EU, China, and Russia, but we want to peer beyond these international trends to see how foreign investments and other forms of economic cooperation impact the countries we’re working in as part of this project.
These countries are: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan – if you are based in one of these countries or nearby, and want to write about issues affecting these regions then we can offer editorial support, publication with one of our project partners and competitive rates of compensation. If you already work for a media organisation and would like to publish with them, that’s also an option.
We’re especially interested in stories that have cross-border potential, so if you think your story is about more than one country, let us know – you can apply with a colleague, or we can help connect you with a journalist from our network.
Data-driven stories are also very interesting to us, and we’re open to all forms of media, so if you’d rather pitch a podcast than an article, that’s more than welcome.
🔸 The deadline for this round of pitches is the 28th January, so get pitching, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Ukrainian folk ensemble Дивина / Dyvyna set the tone with a captivating a cappella performance at Cologne's Neumarkt station, marking the launch of the "Next Station: Ukraine" exhibition. Running from November 14 to 19, the exhibition showcases documentary photos from Ukrainian subway stations on banners at both #Cologne and #Düsseldorf subway stations.
On commercial billboards, people see images of ordinary Ukrainians hiding in #Kyiv and #Kharkiv underground from Russian rockets while trying to maintain their everyday life there. It is not a campaign but rather our attempt to find another medium for documentary photography.
The project collaborates with Ukrainian photographers: Maxim Dondyuk , Pavlo Dorohoi, Serhii Korovayny and Viacheslav Ratynski. The project is supported by Auswärtiges Amt and Ströer Media Brands , and the performance was organised in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute - Український інститут.
