Vážení přátelé, americká temnota vábí! Dnes totiž oficiálně vychází české vydání knihy „USBM: Revoluce identity v americkém black metalu“ od Daniela Lakea, dlouholetého redaktora prestižního Decibel Magazine.
Black metal má v Americe hlubokou tradici, která sahá až do osmdesátých let. Scénu budovaly kapely, z nichž mnohé si nakonec získaly celosvětový respekt. Řeč je například o Absu, Agalloch, Nachtmystium, VON či Deafheaven. Rozhodně se jedná o velmi zajímavé podhoubí, v němž vznikla celá řada legendárních nahrávek.
Daniel Lake americký black metal zmapoval důkladně. Jeho buřičská knižní výprava čtenáře zavádí prostřednictvím vzpomínek samotných muzikantů až do střev této scény, která je rozhodně pozoruhodná a nabízí zase jiný odstín tohoto vzrušujícího žánru. „Americký black metal slepě nenapodoboval severské bitvy, a především se inspiroval domácí death/thrashmetalovovou a hardcorovou scénou,“ píše autor v úvodu. „Byl však sžíravější než death metal, agresivnější, temnější a zlostnější než thrash a odvážnější než hardcore. Stal se black metalem, jelikož se nevešel do škatulek žádného z těch ostatních stylů.“

Dear friends, the American darkness beckons! For today, the Czech edition of “USBM: A Revolution of Identity in American Black Metal” by Daniel Lake, a longtime contributor to the iconic Decibel Magazine, is officially published.
Black metal has a long tradition in America going back to the 1980s. The scene was forged by bands, many of which eventually gained worldwide renown, such as Absu, Agalloch, Nachtmystium, VON or Deafheaven. A fascinating underground that ultimately gave rise to many legendary recordings.
Daniel Lake mapped the U.S. black metal thoroughly. His riotous tour takes the reader through the gutsiest convolutions of the scene, as told by the very musicians involved, thus showing a different incarnation of this phenomenon of a genre. “American black metal, rather than blindly reenacting those battles in the north, climbed primarily out of the native death metal, thrash and hardcore scenes,” observes the author in the book’s introduction. “But it was more caustic than death metal, more aggressively bleak and evil than thrash, and more fearless than hardcore. It became black metal because it was categorically not any of those other things…”
