A so-called poesiomat full of local artwork is now playing next to the Hodonín town library. The periscope offers poems by local authors, folk songs, excerpts from theatre plays and a short story by T. G. Masaryk. But it also includes contemporary works - like the local metal band Like Fool.

There are about seventy poesiomats in the Czech Republic. The nearest ones are in Veselí nad Moravou and Břeclav.

Zábranský returns to Brno.🏒 The 24-year-old defence player Libor Zábranský will join the Kometa team in Brno after seven years spent overseas, in Karlovy Vary and Finland.

"This is the return of a youngster who belongs to the successful Brno generation of 1999 and 2000. Martin Nečas, Lukáš Dostál, Filip Král, Dalimil Mikyska, Michal Kunc and many others. Kometa managed to bring up a lot of names to professional hockey and we are of course happy if such a return is successful," said Pavel Zubíček, the head of Brno youth.

Libor Zábranský, who captained the national team at the U18 and U20 World Championships, has 34 starts for the senior national team. This season, he played at the Karjala tournament in November and at the Swiss Games last week.

The Brno Zoo has bred two critically endangered black kites. The success surprised even experienced breeders. 👇

"They have a two-storey nesting platform, the upper part of which is inhabited by black storks. During the season, we observed that something was happening on the lower one, but nothing could be seen because there is no place in the aviary where we could see the nest from above. So we had to leave the process to its own fate and suddenly, halfway through the season, two young kites peeked out of the nest," says bird curator Petr Suvorov.

According to the curator, the key to breeding is that the aviary is large enough, the birds in the nest are far away from people and can have a greater sense of security.

The black kite is usually found in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. In the Czech Republic, it is rare, nesting mainly in southern Moravia and southern Bohemia.

🏍️ Tickets for the MotoGP race in Brno have gone on sale. It will take place next year from 18th to 20th July. The president of the Autoclub of the Czech Republic Jan Št'ovíček expects a higher attendance than in the last edition before the coronavirus pandemic, when nearly 190,000 people attended. Tickets are available starting at 2,490 CZK for an adult.

Road workers in Brno today officially opened the final section of the large city ring road between Tomkovo Square and Rokytova Street, including all associated constructions.

➡️ According to the Minister of Transport, Martin Kupka (ODS), this marks the completion of this year’s "hat trick" of infrastructure projects in the city, which have significantly improved traffic flow. In recent weeks, new sections of the ring road were opened on Žabovřeská Street and Bauerova Street.

➡️ The construction, which starts behind the Husovice Tunnels and took three years to complete, cost the Directorate of Roads and Motorways 2.4 billion CZK.

Masaryk University is interested in buying the building that houses the Scala cinema from the city of Brno. The reconstruction of the structurally unstable building will cost over CZK 300 million. The rector admitted that the university does not have that amount of money at the moment, but dividing the work into stages would allow the costs to be spread over a longer period of time. Reconstruction work could begin as early as 2026.

➡️ Together with the Bolek Polívka Theatre, which was located in the same building, the cinema has been closed since last summer. The cinema is currently operating in emergency mode, screening films in the lower foyer of the building, in the so-called Scalka, which can seat 50 people. Since spring, the Bolek Polívka Theatre has been relocated to the White House on Žerotínovo náměstí.

One of the buildings on the premises of the T. Bata Regional Hospital in Zlín was on fire before noon today. The fire originated in the technical room of the cardiology department and was soon extinguished after the arrival of firefighters.

For precautionary reasons, 150 patients had to be evacuated from the internal medicine building. The staff took the patients on beds to the front of the building and to other wards. No one was injured. The firefighters are investigating the cause and circumstances of the fire.

Ticket sales for one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Czech Grand Prix in Brno, will begin on Monday, December 16. 🏁🏍️ The information was announced by Automotodrom Brno, which manages the Masaryk Circuit. Next year, the World Motorcycle Racing Championship will return to the circuit after a five-year hiatus.

Masaryk University is once again the Czech leader in the QS Sustainability global ranking.

➡️ The ranking is based on 52 indicators grouped into three main categories: social impact, environmental impact, and institutional governance. Key criteria include areas such as environmental research and education, as well as health, well-being, and equality at the university.

➡️ Globally, 1,744 universities from 107 countries were evaluated. Masaryk University ranked 215th worldwide and 99th in Europe.

➡️ Masaryk University also leads the Eastern European region, which includes universities from Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine.

Antisemitic caricatures from the period before 1989 bear a strong resemblance to images currently circulating on social media, as shown in an exhibition at the Löw-Beer Villa in Brno. Stereotypes and prejudices against Jews thus remain present in the public sphere. The exhibition, Humor Without Laughter, has been organized by the Museum of Brno Region and will open on Thursday, running until June 29 of next year.

The new zoning plan for Brno was approved by the city councilors today. It will come into effect in February next year. A total of 54 people voted in favor, with no votes against and one abstention. The new document, which facilitates the city's development while ensuring the protection of selected areas, is the first for Brno in thirty years and has been in the making for over twenty years. In June 2022, councilors rejected the already finalized zoning plan and ordered its revision.

➡️ The new zoning plan offers the potential to repurpose more than 100 brownfields and build housing for up to 170,000 new residents. The city's expansion, which currently has a population of 400,000, will, however, depend on the construction of transportation and technical infrastructure as well as civic amenities. The document also simplifies the construction of flood control measures.

A new addition to this year's Brno Christmas celebrations are charitable jingle bells. 🔔 Part of the proceeds from their sale goes to the Dagmar Children's Home and the Emil Foundation. By Monday noon, bellmaker Jan Šeda had already crafted and sold two thousand of them, reaching 70,000 CZK of his 100,000 CZK goal. He has been casting bells in the Orlické Mountains since 1990. His stall can be found on Svobody Square, towards Kobližná Street.

🦁 The first lion cubs in history in Zlín Zoo. Two cubs were born to a three-year-old female Kwale, who the zoo has had since last year.

The lioness gave birth to one male and two females. The cubs are healthy and vital - the lioness takes good care of them.

In addition, this year the zoo started construction of the first lion rescue and breeding centre in the Czech Republic. In the future, not only this lion family will be there, but also other lions confiscated by the state from private breeders, either because of unsuitable conditions or illegal breeding.
