🐦 Birdwatching season is upon us. Volunteers can take part in bird counting until Sunday. This will help ornithologists map bird behavior in winter. They can count birds anywhere – in their garden, on their balcony, in a park, in the forest, or by a pond – but a full bird feeder increases the chances of observation.

Can you identify the five species that volunteers saw most often last year? 👇 You will find the answer under each photo.

Beware of dangerous holes in the frozen surface of the Brno Dam‼️

Between the nudist beach and Rokle, there is a muddy bottom, and rising gases from it melt the ice from below. This creates almost invisible air pockets covered by only a thin layer of ice. When weight is applied, they break immediately.

This information was provided by police officers, who cordoned off the identified risk areas with tape. In general, they do not recommend skaters to go onto the ice, as its thickness varies.

❗A new educational centre will be built in the Janáček Theatre in Brno, with construction scheduled to start next spring. The investment plan was approved yesterday by city councillors. The space will be used by the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Centre for Experimental Theatre, and other city-funded organizations.

❔ The city has been discussing what to do with the former restaurant premises for a long time. During the coronavirus pandemic, it served as a vaccination centre. The Brno National Theatre then wanted to build an educational centre there, which would be used by the ballet school, for example. The city leadership decided to offer the premises for business use, but no suitable candidate was found.

👉 The construction of the educational centre will cost almost CZK 29 million. The Brno National Theatre will also contribute to the financing – it will be responsible for project preparation and equipping part of the premises, as well as subsequent operating costs.

A street brawl in the spa town of Luhačovice that ended in death is now set to be reviewed by an appeals court. Two Ukrainian nationals are facing charges over a fight outside a bar in Luhačovice in July 2024, during which a Slovak man died after being struck on the head.

According to prosecutors, the altercation was sparked by an argument linked to disagreements over the war in Ukraine. Both defendants maintain that they acted in self-defence.

The appeal against the verdict will be heard by the High Court in Olomouc. A hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
