On October 27th 2009 the first lionfish was spotted on one of Curacao's beautiful coral reefs. For people with any knowledge at all about lionfish this would have meant danger for our reefs needing immediate response. Our late reaction to this has left us with a reef that is now infested with lionfish, each spawning a potential 30,000 eggs every four days. The Lionfish Elimination Team urges every

one to help eliminate this invasive species or to at-least help raise awareness by 'like'ing and passing this group around.

Could this be the robot lionfish killer?
Designed to lethally inject the Crown Of Thorn Starfish that has been ruining the Great Barrier Reef just like the lionfish has done to our waters, this drone work autonomously and impressively accurately. What do you think?

The robot's target is a species of coral-eating starfish responsible for extensive reef damage.

"Mr. Morley told Cayman 27 several sharks then tussled over the catch. He said the behaviours he witnessed were unaided by human interference."

What do you guys think? Are sharks starting to do this one their own, or is it still on us?

It appears reef sharks are starting to catch on to the idea of hunting lionfish on their own, without human help. Underwater photographer Simon Morley was diving at East End's Split Rock dive site, where sharks can frequently be observed.

Lionfish, a non-native species to the region, have played havoc with the marine ecosystem in the decades since they were introduced.
