Before we say anything else, we want to first say that we get it - wanting to grow your social media following is one of the most common desires for new (& even existing!) brands, so the idea of a follow loop can be super tempting. But wait, what even is that?
💥 A follow loop is the when one "coordinating" account hosts a group of influencers or brands who are looking to grow their follower count. This account will temporarily unfollow their usual accounts they follow and only follow the brands participating in the loop.
💥 From there, they will post things to their feed that sound similar to a giveaway but they'll ask their audience to go follow EVERYONE they are currently following themselves. These accounts get a huge boost in following and some wins a grand prize - great right?
💥 DEFINITELY NOT. The thing is that every account participating in a follow loop is required to PAY IN to the coordinating account to be included and receive the new followers. In most cases, this amount can be as small as a couple hundred dollars OR TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. 🤯
Even though your follower count increases after one of these loops, they're typically terrible for your account because those new followers don't actually care about you or your content, they care about that other account and winning the prize.
While these are real people and not bots, the result is similar to buying followers because they won't ever engage with your posts, causing your reach and engagement to PLUMMET instead of soar.
Instead of looking for the next "Get Followers Quick" scheme, remember that your Social Media Manager knows what they're doing; trust them and trust their process.
