HYPERLOCAL | As Guanacaste grows, our beloved howler monkeys are facing real threats—habitat loss, power line electrocutions, and car collisions are taking a serious toll.

Each year, over 100s of monkeys are electrocuted in our and surrounding areas. Why? Because they're forced to cross live power lines due to deforestation and development.

What can YOU do?

🌳 Slow down & drive carefully in monkey zones

🌳 Think before cutting/clearing

PSA | For the love of our environment, keep it tight Potrero. Everything we consume ends up somewhere. Let's be conscious of what we purchase and how/where we rid it when we are done with it. Remember: Refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, recycle!

And if you see it on the ground, please just put it in the trash. 🗑️ We know it's not yours, but it takes little effort for a big impact. Being right on the coast, rubbish easily ends up in our rivers and the ocean at the ultimate cost. 😭

📮📸 Think our debris doesn’t impact marine life? Think Again.

As the turtle grew, the plastic didn’t break away. Instead, it restricted the natural growth of its body, causing its carapace and plastron to deform into a rounded shape. This hawksbill turtle, is just one of the many sad examples of the serious threat that our actions pose to the oceans and marine fauna.
Marine debris doesn’t just “go away.” It lingers, entangling and harming wildlife. Every bit of litter left behind—whether it’s a plastic bag, a fishing line, or a bottle ring—can pose a deadly threat to the animals we share our planet with.

This heartbreaking story is why we do what we do: organize clean-ups, educate others, and advocate for change. You can help too:
🐢Reduce your use of single-use plastics.
🐢Join local beach clean-ups.
🐢Educate others about how small actions make a big difference.

Every piece of rubbish removed is one less threat to our marine friends.

AL CHILE | Potrero had a beautiful opening ceremony to the town's Fiestas Populares thanks to the Comisión Fiestas Populares and sponsors. The parade commenced at Plaza Potrero through Surfside, rounding our bespoke painted cow to the bullring.

Don't forget fiestas are a fundraiser for the town and this year the focus is on helping the public school. So strap in. It's time to celebrate traditions, culture, and the community through the weekend (and everyday).

Potrero tuvo una hermosa ceremonia de apertura de las Fiestas Populares de la ciudad gracias a la Comisión Fiestas Populares y patrocinadores. El desfile comenzó en la Plaza Potrero a través de Surfside, rodeando nuestra vaca pintada hasta el redondel.

No hay que olvidar que las fiestas son para recaudar fondos para la ciudad y este año se centran en ayudar a la escuela pública. Entonces, vamos Potrero! Es hora de celebrar las tradiciones, la cultura y la comunidad durante el fin de semana (y todos los días).

AL CHILE | Just this morning turtles were seen hatching at Playa Flamingo. While one did not make it, fourteen were counted entering the water. 💚💚💚

While we are here...quick reminder, let's look out for our aquatic neighbors.

🚮 Walking the beach? Bring a bag to pick up trash while you stroll.

🐢 If you come upon turtles hatching, let them do their thing. Their (hard) journey to the ocean prepares them for survival in the great open ocean. Also, the oils on our hands are harmful to their skin. Please watch at a safe distance.

🚫 Please!!!! do not drive on the beach. Turtle eggs are on our local beaches and are extremely vulnerable to being squished by vehicles. (Also, it's illegal.)

Finally, let's keep an eye out for all our neighbors and share if you happen to catch a special moment like today's.

AL CHILE | Esta misma mañana se han visto tortugas incubando en Playa Flamingo. Aunque una no lo logró, se contaron catorce entrando al agua. 💚💚💚

Ya que estamos aquí...recordatorio rápido, cuidemos a nuestros vecinos acuáticos.

🚮 Paseando por la playa? Lleva una bolsa para recoger la basura mientras paseas.

🐢 Si te encuentras con tortugas incubando, déjalas hacer lo suyo. Su (duro) viaje hasta el océano las prepara para sobrevivir en el gran océano abierto. Además, los aceites de nuestras manos son perjudiciales para su piel. Por favor, obsérvalos a una distancia prudencial.

🚫 Por favor!!!! no conduzcas por la playa. Los huevos de tortuga están en nuestras playas locales y son extremadamente vulnerables a ser aplastados por los vehículos. (Además, es ilegal.)

Por último, estemos atentos a todos nuestros vecinos y compartamos si por casualidad captamos un momento especial como el de hoy.
