Over the course of the past decade, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has increased its investments substantially in such areas as modern industry, people's livelihoods and the construction of infrastructure.

As a result, the city's fixed investment has achieved leapfrog development, providing solid support for its high-quality development.

From 2013 to 2021, Xi'an's fixed asset investment, excluding farmers capital expenditure, increased by 5.1 percent on average annually. The steady growth in investment growth was mainly due to the increase in the number of new projects.

In 2021, there were 3,308 investment projects in the city, an increase of 744 over 2012 and 1.3 times that of 2012.

In accordance with the requirements of the strategic goal of building a city strong in advanced manufacturing, Xi'an has focused on increasing industrial investment.

The city's industrial investment amounted to nearly 100 billion yuan ($13.89 billion) in 2021 – 1.7 times that of 2012 – with an average annual growth of 7.7 percent.

Of that, the city's investment in manufacturing was 1.8 times that of 2012, with an average annual growth rate of 7.7 percent, accounting for 84.8 percent of its industrial investment, an increase of 1.4 percentage points over 2012.

Investment in emerging industries has also achieved remarkable results. In 2021, the city's high-tech industry investment was 1.4 times that of 2017; investment in the modern services industry accounted for 61.5 percent of the city's total investment, an increase of 8.5 percentage points over 2017.

Moreover, Xi'an has increased its investment in the construction of infrastructure and has accelerated urban renewal.

The city's spending on infrastructure accounted for 29 percent of its total investment in 2021, an increase of 13.4 percentage points over 2012, while the average annual growth rate was 14.6 percent.

The 2022 Xi'an Micro-vacation and Tourism Festival was launched online on Sept 29 in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, through a livestreaming broadcast, for the upcoming National Day holiday on Oct 1-7.

Micro-vacations are an emerging tourism fad. They are mini-breaks that are taken frequently and are widely seen as being a hip and fun thing to do – mainly in the city and its surrounding areas – within an automobile drive time of 2-3 hours and a duration of 2-3 days.

The ongoing festival is being hosted by the Xi'an municipal administration of culture and tourism and organized by the culture and tourism departments of districts, counties and development zones in the city.

With a theme of "accommodation + experience", a total of 40 holiday-themed products, 10 clusters of B&Bs in districts and counties, and five premium-quality hotel groups, were unveiled at the festival launch.

Joining them was the launch of four tourism routes that will explore history and culture, as well as three themed activities.

All of these have distinct characteristics, extending the depth of tourism, as well as allowing people to have more travel and vacation options.

The online launch ceremony attracted netizens with its snappy product releases, interactivity, imaginative marketing, discounts and immersive bus tours.

On the day, the livestreaming attracted 940,000 views and received 65,000 likes.

After the launch ceremony, a tour guide led netizens via livestreaming onto the Xi'an city sightseeing bus for a tour of classic scenic spots in the area. The views through the windows enabled netizens to immerse themselves online in the beauty of early autumn in Xi'an.

Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has diligently implemented a dynamic rural revitalization strategy, developed its urban modern agriculture, and accelerated the construction of a modern agricultural production and operation system, over the past 10 years.

The added value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries industries exceeded the 20 billion yuan ($2.79 billion) and 30 billion yuan marks in 2014 and 2019 respectively. It even reached 34.37 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 16.84 billion yuan on 2012.

From 2013 to 2021, the added value of those sectors grew by an average 4.7 percent annually.

Guided by green development, Xi'an has promoted the gradual transformation of the agricultural development model. In so doing, it has striven to build modern, eco-friendly agriculture with high output, product safety and conservation of resources.

Last year, the city's vegetables, fruit, flower potted plants and tree planting achieved output values of 18.44 billion yuan, 9.76 billion yuan, 5.94 billion yuan and 1.94 billion yuan respectively. Those represented respective increases of 142.2 percent, 87.1 percent, 455.4 percent and 211.3 percent on 2012 levels.

In 2021, the proportion of the output value of the city's agriculture and forestry industries to Xi'an's total output value of its agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries sectors increased by 4.1 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points, respectively, compared with 2012.

The city's grain production has also enjoyed bumper harvests year after year. In 2021, the city's grain yield was a record 367.2 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectare), an increase of 37 kilograms per mu compared with 2012.

The scale, quality and efficiency of the vegetable industry have improved as well. In 2021, the area of vegetables under cultivation reached 1.07 million mu, with a total output of 3.63 million metric tons, an increase of 270,600 mu and 1.35 tons on 2012.

Relying on its rich resources, Xi'an also regards the fruit industry as one of the leading agricultural industries and has built a group of high-quality fruit production bases.

In 2021, the area given over to fruit cultivation amounted to 738,500 mu, with an output of 1.01 million tons, an increase of 98,400 mu and 336,700 tons on 2012, with an average annual increase of 1.6 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.

In addition, Xi'an has made every effort to promote the comprehensive and high-quality development of agricultural mechanization throughout the whole process. Its agricultural mechanization rate was 81.9 percent in 2021, an increase of 16.2 percentage points on 2012.
