Our Story - 2 Years In The Making

Jardin Orange (“Orange Garden”) is an urban artist residency in the north of Shenzhen, China. It has been host to and continuously strives to promote each year talented visual artists (young and experienced) from China and abroad within the burgeoning Chinese art market since 2016. The overall mission of this residency project is to become an active participant in creating the region's artistic growth as well as to become a “magnet” residency that attracts and supports young and experienced artists in their careers.

This residency, in particular, is for artists to come explore their personal stylistic boundaries, to attempt things that they haven't done before, to experiment with new techniques and to consider the advice of others when creating non-canvas works. We strive to encourage, in every step of the creative process, the forward motion and evolution of each artist that pushes them ahead in their professional journey. Jardin Orange Artist Residency is designed as an opportunity for artists to intensively pursue creative work away from their home setting and to welcomely embrace the modern Chinese urban setting.

Each resident is provided access to an individual studio space (37 sq. meters), a private room with bathroom, and shared communal living space. Sometimes, group studios may be shared depending on volume/needs of artists. 5 studios are located inside the residency’s three-story building and are fully equipped. We have a 500-sq. meter public gallery on the first floor, several offices, rooftop space and a kitchen area. JO is also equipped with a growing team of graphic/3d designers and assistants so that when artists come here to work both independently and collaboratively on a new series, they have the greatest potential for extending their work into cross-over products and both public and private commercial venues and business projects.

What is JO Looking For 2019?
