Dolní Vítkovice is a historic industrial area in Ostrava, Czech Republic, with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. It was once a bustling center of coal and steel production in the region, playing a significant role in the industrial development of Czechoslovakia. The site includes various industrial facilities, such as blast furnaces, coke ovens, and mining equipment. 首钢 (Shougang) is one of the most significant abandoned steel mills in Beijing, China. Shougang employed tens of thousands of people during its peak operation, making it one of the largest employers in Beijing. However, the exact number of employees varied over the years based on the demand for steel and the modernization of the facility.

It was relocated to the outskirts of Beijing as part of the city’s efforts to reduce pollution and improve air quality for the 2008 Olympics. The old site of Shougang has since become a symbol of China’s industrial past and urban redevelopment efforts. The area is being transformed into a modern eco-friendly park and cultural hub, showcasing the country’s shift towards sustainable development and urban renewal.

The abandoned Shougang steel mill site was repurposed as the Shougang Big Air, a venue for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The transformation involved extensive renovation and construction to create a state-of-the-art facility for the Big Air snowboarding and freestyle skiing events. The design incorporated elements of the old steel mill structures, blending industrial heritage with modern sports architecture. It serves as a testament to Beijing’s commitment to sustainability and repurposing urban spaces for innovative purposes.

In this episode of Burbex, Brin flies solo exploring the abandoned Shanghai Hypersonic Innovation Technology Laboratory (yes, it’s $HIT Lab). Inside he finds a life-size replica of the CZ4B, the first Chinese rocket to carry a satellite into space, as well as the first Chinese space capsule carrying astronaut Yang Liwei into space.

The cherry on top of the aviation cake is the abandoned MiG-19 Farmer, left to rot amongst a whole bunch of army vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s. All in all, it’s a great trip through China’s aviation history.

In this great episode of Burbex, Brin is joined by urbex legend as they explore a HUGE abandoned W***y Wonka Candy Theme Park on the outskirts of Shanghai. Empty and overgrown, the duo search for elusive bullfrogs and Brin even spots a wild Oompa Loompa doing the famous dance.

The park itself was built by the GIANT real estate company Evergrand, which went through a massive debt crisis to the tune of $308 billion, leaving the park and many other sites incomplete.

Brin returns to coastal Shanghai, where a string of deaths have occurred around an abandoned holiday resort. Using video evidence from one of the crime scenes, Brin sets out with a bottle of luminol which glows when it is sprayed on even tiny amounts of dried blood. This can only be achieved at night, so of course things are gonna get spooky in this CSI Shanghai episode!

In this episode of Burbex, Brin and Robin explore an immense Chinese state-owned factory abandoned for the last 30 years, where everything from clothes to pharmaceutical products were produced. Inside the duo finds masses of factory space, ruined secret laboratories full of equipment and weird machines, and even a gigantic hall full of weaving machines.
The complex is full of relics and slogans from the height of Chairman Mao’s reign and everything is painted in typical pale green. The pair finish off by exploring a ruined theatre within the complex.

In this episode of Burbex, Brin is joined by Robin and Senzuri as they sneak into a mountain barracks in the mountains a couple of hours drive from Shanghai. Inside a Soviet T62 tank is found, which has come back into the public focus after the Russians started bringing them back to life against the Ukranians. Also there are huge anti-aircraft guns, munitions, fortresses and even old fire trucks dumped in the mountains. Can Brin and the team sneak in unoticed, or will they have to make a great escape on the ruined motorbikes and jeeps?

Explored a HUGE abandoned hotel, full of golden interiors, crystal chandeliers, and monstrous columns. Sometimes though exploration comes with a price that can only be paid in blood. I stepped on a nail and ended up with a boot full of blood. Apologies to Marriott Hotel next door, whose disabled toilets served as my surgery room.

Exploring an abandoned Chinese theme park with discovered an abandoned dog fighting pit. When the park was open, dogs would fight in the pit and people would place bets on the winner. When one of the dogs lost, it would be taken outside, skinned and BBQed, and the spectators would eat the loser. I wanna point out that as well as being incredibly cruel, this is not part of Chinese tradition and should not be allowed to happen again in the future.

This was one of my first ever explorations. Dalian has a mystical vibe when it comes to because things are often not what they seem. The hilly landscape is dotted with glass fronted skyscrapers which are just skeletons inside. This waterpark was down by the beach, but it was only stray dogs and dead cats that were having fun there now, the distant smell of those bright red sweet sausages drifting in from the nearby beach.

In this thrilling episode of Burbex, Brin unexpectedly sneaks into an abandoned PLA Airforce base where he uncovers several large bunkers, a dozen weird looking military vehicles, and then the most explosive find of all - military shells!!!

If that’s not enough, he also sneaks into the nearby PLA Airforce Academy, and narrowly escapes over a wall from the workers inside - definitely one of the most exciting military adventures yet!!!

In this nautical episode of Burbex, Brin travels to sk**ky outskirts of Shanghai in pursuit of two unusual forms of marine transportation. That's right, in a Shanghai field in the middle of nowhere, he discovers two hovercrafts left to rust.

Boarding the hovercrafts, Brin tries to start them up again with little success, but marvels at the technology inside. Brin also mentions his favourite 007 which also features a hovercraft chase esacping from the North Koreans. Even though there are no North Koreans in his episode, Brin is always watchful.

In this episode of Burbex, Brin is joined by Nightbird and her best friend Zodiac camping in the an abandoned mountain village over the October Festival. Little do they know that there is a weirdo stalker watching them at night. Caught on camera, the stalker claims that he is a kung fu virgin, but admits that he has spied on other visitors, and even propositions Zodiac.

As if that wasn't enough action for the night, the next morning Brin gets up super early to explore the abandoned village, which belonged to a Nationalist clan before the Communists took over in the 1940s. The village was renamed and promptly abandoned, the residents either being murdered or outcast. The only person who remains is the weird stalker. Tune in to discover if he finally finds a mate!

In this episode of Burbex, Brin sneaks into one of the largest abandoned hotels he's ever snuck into. Surrounded by weird statues, and even a police car, he has to come up with a creative way to get inside which involves avoiding a whole lot of p**p. Once inside he is joined by a friendly stray dog, and together the duo find abandoned bars with real Italian chandaliers, dozens of weird statues of children, and fantastic views of the area from the roof. What's really weird though is the outside.

The gigantic parking lot is full of hundreds of abandoned orange taxis and black and white VW Santanas which are typically used for driving schools. The best part though is that Brin finds all their keys stuck to the hoods of the cars and even manages to start one up. So the big question is, why are they sozens of abandoned cars with keys left at this huge empty hotel. Tune in to find out!

In this episode of Burbex, Brin explores an auto cemetery where ex-showroom cars, pawned cars, and cars which have fallen off the back of trucks, go to slowly rot. As well as finding his favourite car the Hyundai Tucson, as well as more trucks than you can shake a dipstick at, Brin strikes gold when he finds a gorgeous Audi SS left all on its lonesome. Will Brin take her home, tune in to find out!

But why were they all abandoned? Brin also explains why these often brand new cars, like a whole fleet of electric cars have been left to rot, and also how you can identify where a Chinese car is from based on its licence plate.
