2018 is fast approaching and its time to look back at the past 100 years of history - starting from the 1917 October Revolution. Join us on December 2 at the University of Strasbourg's Aula to revisit the historical events which have marked the previous century: the independence movements, socialist revolutions, and the great advancements in technology. We ask ourselves, what has history taught us, how has it changed us, and what kind of proposals can we make for the future?

At 10:00 am on October the 11th, the exhibition "Sketch with Intent - Concrete Expressionism in Drawing and Sketching" opened in the Fine Arts Museum at China Academy of Art.

What is sketching? What is painting? Since the 1980s, Professor Si Tuli has been committed to establishing a concrete expressionist theory of painting at CAA with phenomenological and existentialist ideas, as well as Chinese philosophical ideas. This exhibition presents the sketches of Alberto Giacometti, Avigdor Arikha, Raymond Mason, Sam Szafran and other masters, as well as a series of sketches from Professor Si Tuli. Also on display are the works of students from CAA’s Concrete Expressionist experimental course, as well as the new works of the PhD students. The total number of sketches exceeds 400, and the exhibition was designed to showcase the historical origins and academic development of sketch artwork.

The work of Jasmine Kay Uy for her University of Texas at Austin Department of Art and Art History Digital Foundations class with Bethany Johnson titled "Art is Pointless...". The prompt was to create a work that investigated site-specificity, public setting, and text-based art using Illustrator and the vinyl cutter. According to Uy, the format was inspired by Publicis London's Corners campaign for Depaul UK. Any reproduction of this work is done so without my permission. This project is meant to be a short-term investigative project that is to stay within the confines of the University of Texas at Austin.

Frontiers has some good news to announce! On October 1 the 54 finalists for the Golden Horse Awards were announced. This year 576 films were entered into the competition, of these 46 films received various nominations. China Academy of Art School of Film and Animation Professor Liu Jian has received three nominations for his work “Big World”: best animated feature film, best original script, and best original score. “Big World” was directed and edited by Liu Jian, who spent three years to independently create this animated feature film. Liu Jian’s previous work “Sting me” is well known in China, with the soundtrack by famous Chinese rock star “左小祖咒”. “Sting me” also took 3 years to independently produce, with Liu Jian acting as screenwriter, director, and animator, with original drawing done by him. "Big World" has nearly 80 minutes of hand-painted two-dimensional animation, with more than 800 scenes of the original painting completed by Liu Jian himself. The film was completed with the support of producers from Yang City.

The film is about a small town in the south of China. In order to win back the love of his girlfriend, construction site driver Little Zhang robe his boss and causes a chain reaction. Several different powerful groups been to pursue Little Zhang. These powerful forces originally had nothing to do with Little Zhang, but now fate has brought them together. An accidental fight will bring about an unexpected outcome. Liu Jian uses his characteristic style and black humor to depict the events of one day. The film also makes use of many different Chinese dialects, as well as covering important developments in current affairs, from Trump's Presidential victory speech to Brexit in England.
