The interior design, in collaboration with Artesano, merges the past with the present, creating a balance between the natural and the built environment, and mixing traditional and modern materials. Casa Pakaal seeks to respect history, nature and its context, creating different environments and atmospheres for the enjoyment of each one of its spaces.

The interior walls of the kitchen preserve their original finishes as a tangible witness to the passage of time, contrasting with the modern design of the custom-made kitchen and the bright colors of the pasta tile floor. This space is connected by a tempered glass door anchored to the old wooden frames to the outdoor terrace, which is without a doubt the heart of Casa Pakaal.

Welcome to the ultimate fusion of movement and style – the biggest Lululemon flagship store in the world. Located in the heart of Shanghai, this visual wonder isn’t just a store; it’s a full-blown experience and a tribute to the beauty of being on the move.

A flagship store should embody the brand’s core identity and connect with the city it calls home. In this particular setting, the brand, centered around a global community and a mission of promoting “daily movement,” is engaging with one of the most active cities worldwide. Through this project, our aim is to capture this compelling duality: the vibrant city’s constant hustle and the physical engagement of its residents.

Integrating three distinct cultural institutions for the city (a Performing Arts Centre with a 1200-seat Grand Theatre and a 500-retractable-seat multifunctional Black Box theatre; an interactive Science Centre; and an Art Museum) each venue within the Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Arts Centre incorporates unique characteristics that create differing visitor experiences, yet all are united by a coherent formal and structural logic that spans 170 meters wide from east to west and 270 meters long from north to south.

Echoing the chevron patterns of migratory birds flying in formation over southern China, the latticed steel canopies sheltering each venue are configured through repetition, symmetry and scale variation; resulting in a composition of related elements that respond to the different functional requirements of each building.

The building group is located on a south-facing slope, the outline of the project is completely determined by the topography. To maximum combine the architectures with nature and create a paradise, blocks are scattered and integrated among the mountains, external walls is made from local stone, which offers the greatest visual extension.

The faint light shuttles freely between the lines and gaps, casts a shadow among the alternation. Passing through the arched tunnel, along the winding steps going up the stairs, to feel the charm of nature, all of those makes people full of expectation to the future.

At the core of our architectural endeavor lies a design philosophy centered around seamlessly integrating our structures with the natural splendor of the surrounding environment. Employing technological tools, such as Google Earth, we embarked on a strategic journey to discern key vantage points that would fundamentally inform our design layout. The illustrious landmarks of Leopoldkron Castle, Leopoldskorner Pond, Hohensalzburg Fortress, and the majestic Untersberg acted as our guiding beacons, guiding the project’s essence.

To optimize sightlines and celebrate the beauty of the significant areas, we embraced a free-flowing floor plan. The line of sight is further strengthened by the view-leading window sills. These architectural elements deftly guide the observer’s gaze, orchestrating a visual symphony that seamlessly harmonizes with the landscape. The outcome is an awe-inspiring composition of slender structures artfully positioned at angles to one another, forming a captivating central opening that beckons exploration. The entrance area is designed to be intimate due to the spatial narrowing. Inside one’s gaze is immediately captivated by the sculptural staircase, further enhancing the view towards the enchanting garden and water area.

Jinwei Brewery is a mark of urban construction in Shenzhen, and the location of the store is the courtyard of the original brewery’s water treatment facilities. The 2022 Shenzhen Hong Kong Architecture Biennale underwent a renovation of the venue, with a huge red staircase serving as part of the exhibition flow, penetrating the surrounding buildings.

Due to being exposed to humid outdoor environments all year round, the waterproof layer on the walls has peeled off into mottled patterns. When a ray of sunlight in the courtyard falls on the old walls, the combination of nature and artificial labor has accumulated over time, brewing an astonishing industrial beauty.

Reima and Raili Pietilä won the design competition for the Finnish Embassy to be located in the diplomatic enclave in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi in 1963 with a beautiful and powerful competition entry called “Snow speaks on the mountains”. After a lengthy delay, the project was commissioned in 1980 and redesigned based on the original concept. The Embassy finally opened in 1986 with the large single expanse of roof of the 1960’s design broken up into six separate lateral buildings around a central garden area. The sculptural roofs – the most significant architectural feature of the embassy compound – resemble the forms of the snowy Lake Kitkajärvi near Kuusamo, Northern Finland.

ALA Architects was commissioned in 2013 to design the renovation of this mythical masterpiece of Finnish modernism. The 2-phase renovation project that took just over five years to complete has brought the ingenious building complex back to its original glory. The first phase consisted of the transformation of one staff apartment building and the construction of one new gate house. The second phase comprised the renovations of the chancery, the ambassador’s residence, the technical center, sauna, two more residential buildings, the pool and one old gate house, and the construction of one new gate house and a gazebo with a small gym.

PuffFrog is a fashion online store that mainly focuses on hats. This is their first attempt to open an off-line retail store. With street culture as the core, it creates a composite space that combines streetwear, specialty coffee, and vinyl records. It also provides showcases platform for local brands and artists, combining community culture, design and production with PuffFrog’s creativity.

The project is located inside the corridor on the second floor of the shopping mall. You can see it when you go up the escalator on the sidewalk on the first floor. The glass curtain wall on the original pavement facade was removed, and the paved space was naturally integrated into the corridor.

The Nantou Neighborhood Center, situated on the original site of two community service facilities with residential units above, has been undergoing a transformative evolution. After adaptive renovation, the building is set to embrace a multifaceted role, encompassing a community hospital, community offices, local cultural exhibitions, classrooms and meeting rooms. This comprehensive approach seeks to not only provide administrative office space but also cater to the healthcare needs of Nantou residents, seamlessly integrating it into their daily lives.

Openness and heterogeneity stand out as essential concepts. The complexity of building functions, diversity of volumes, forms and materials coalesce into a hybrid building. Enhanced by a profusion of public areas, this combination imparts a distinctive urban character to the architecture.

The Anamorphic Bench /

link: https://www.gooood.cn/the-anamorphic-bench-by-atelier-yokyok.htm

The «Anamorphic Bench» is a unique piece created by YokYok. This artistic project is part of YokYok’s ongoing exploration of three-dimensional anamorphosis. Operating at the intersection of art, design, and architecture, their approach aims to create works based on three principles:
1- Playing with perspective
2- Staging the human body
3- Providing original, playful, and educational furniture
The Anamorphic Bench is the stretch of a simple chair. When viewed from the right perspective, the initially dislocated bench reveals the initial form, and a chair shows up. The geometry changes and flattens, the legs hide themselves behind each other, and the magic operates. Individuals sitting at different levels on the bench appear at varying sizes. The bench stages those who use it. The phenomenon is more obvious in photography or by simply closing one eye.

The construction of HAUS 1, the latest building to be sustainably transformed as part of the award-winning Atelier Gardens masterplan in Berlin, is now complete. Together with co-architects Hirschmüller Schindele Architekten, MVRDV has turned a dated office building from the 1990s into an eye-catching entrance marker for the site. Now bright yellow, the building is completed with a new living roof, and a sustainable timber rooftop pavilion and terrace, accessible via a grand external staircase.

HAUS 1 is the second project completed by MVRDV within Atelier Gardens, following last year’s reopening of TON 1, a historic film studio originally built in the 1920s. Situated at the southern edge of Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport, the masterplan transforms the campus of the Berliner Union Film Ateliers (BUFA) as part of a vision to expand the site’s user base beyond filmmakers to encompass all forms of ‘change makers’, including impact organisations and individuals with a focus on climate activism and social justice.

The Xili Lake Greenway is situated within the Xili Lake International Science and Education City, which stands as one of the prospective core development area in Nanshan District, and also serves as a pivotal domain for harboring the national comprehensive scientific center in Shenzhen. Functioning as a vital infrastructure and ecological corridor within the Science and Education City, Xili Lake Greenway assumes a significant role in the regional development as well as scientific and educational endeavors.

Interlinking the Dasha River Ecological Corridor and the No. 2 Provincial Greenway, Xili Lake Greenway has integrated itself into the network of Guangdong Province‘s “Ten-Thousand-Kilometer Blueway” system. This achievement orchestrates the convergence of diverse greenway systems, catalyzing the protection of regional ecological green spaces and the establishment of an ecological network. The Greenway traces its course around Xili Lake and traverses the expanse of Dasha River, establishing connections between nature reserves, forest parks, country parks and lake reservoirs, and thus forges a holistic haven that accommodates nearly ten thousand species of wild flora and fauna whilst encouraging the harmonious coexistence of humankind and the natural world.

A giant inflatable sphere – which literally breathes throughout the day – is the NGV’s 2023 Architecture Commission. Making the invisible visible, (This is) Air, developed by Nic Brunsdon in collaboration with ENESS, draws attention to one of the universal and defining features of life on Earth: breathing air.

Utilising air as a building material, the commission morphs and changes throughout the day as it expands and then releases air in a natural rhythm. A poignant study of air and time, the fully inflated spherical structure stands over 14 metres tall, evoking a sense of uplifting optimism.

Like most of their neighbors, NT46 and NT88 are self-built houses by villagers. The main brick-concrete structure of the building no longer meets safety regulations and requires overall structural reinforcement. Usually hidden or irrelevant, this seemingly inconspicuous "standard process" actually has extremely symbolic meaning in our eyes: an urban village may not be "high-end", but its bottom line should be safety and dignity that translate into care and respect for locals.

Only above this bottom line can we have the mood and necessity to continue discussion. Nantou is evolving from temporary to permanent, marginal to normative, vague to clear, and a new urban identity and historical mission are being implanted. Therefore, we developed a consistent expression in both projects: turning structural reinforcement into visible exteriorization, leaving behind recognizable new layers that form a new logic and ethics.

The design site is facing the core sunken square, and many well-growing camphor trees are preserved near the site. The service station combines landscape features, with two trees on the left and right as boundaries, and relies on the canopy shape to enrich the building volume.

The processing of the architectural appearance is based on the consideration of the existing trees, so that both have a dialogue relationship with light, shadow and sight due to the undulating space. The outer eaves of the station roof are overhanging at different heights and lengths, providing a variety of semi-outdoor space.

For centuries, poets and artists have celebrated the natural beauty of the West Lake. Continuing this tradition, SOM conceptualized the north facade of the GT Land Plaza as the glimmering surface of a “vertical lake.” The monumental north facade evokes the sublime experience of the natural lake, and also positions the building as an equal counterpart to the abutting park and civic building.

This broad facade is composed of glass panels of varying opacities and hues that reflect sunlight. Many of the large curtain wall panels incorporate a silver mesh between the layers of glass. At night, the facade is illuminated with a series of uplights that create the effect of light scattering across water.

Blue Box Office / Eureka + HHO + Keio Architecture Sano Lab

link:https://www.gooood.cn/blue-box-office-by-eureka-hho-keio-architecture-sano-lab.htm

A two-story wooden office building on a sloping land in a densely-built residential area. The office spaces are mainly on the upper floor and are filled with indirect natural light, while the ground floor is open to the surrounding area and serves as a link between the office space on the upper floor and the local community. The structural timber frames leaning against the rigid concrete retaining wall create the open ground floor space. Brightness of the interior spaces was critical to this project. The purpose was to create a comfortable and energy-efficient office space, as well as to create a sense of openness and continuity with the neighborhood. Natural light streaming in through the clerestory windows is diffused by light shelves made of perforated metal plates and metal fabric and reflected off the curved ceiling, illuminating the entire office space and the first floor entrance hall.

To reduce the energy consumption of artificial lighting and improve the wellness and productivity of workers, we aimed to create a bright workspace utilizing daylight. Although the site is open only to the north, the aim was to maximize the brightness by daylight by introducing softly diffusing and reflecting light from the south-facing clerestory windows. The perforated metal reflectors soften the direct light into the space and at the same time illuminate the ceiling with reflected light, giving the space an expansive height direction. These ceilings are either aluminum-foil-finished sloped ceilings or plaster-finished curved ceilings, which fill the space with light and accentuate the height of the ceiling. Simulations of daylight autonomy have confirmed that daylight illumination (300 lx) is secured throughout the seasons.

The teahouse is nestled on a tea field, Lu Yu Tea Cultural Campus, Xisaishan Resort, Huzhou, China, in a Subtropical Monsoon Climate, floating south of hills, service for a cultural resort. Where Lu Yu (733-804) wrote and lived in seclusion, the resort plans a series of teahouses in the various landscapes, including tea fields, hills, lakeside, and forests. The Cloud Tea Room especially settled on a hillside, the highest site in the resort.

This contemporary teahouse was inspired by respect to a spatial prototype of the traditional teahouse and inherited design principle; the architect developed a new type using modern materials and an innovative environment, practiced an un-daily tea space, and created an abnormal tea experience.
