The Court of Appeal of Dakar has announced the preliminary results of the presidential election of March 24, which confirms the election of Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the 5th President of Senegal.

Faye came out as favorite on the list with a percentage of 54.28% followed by Amadou Ba 35.79% then by Aliou Mamadou Dia 2.80%.

The outgoing leader Macky Sall on March 28, received in audience President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the presidential palace to discuss on state issues as well as the swearing-in and handover of power ceremony, which will mark the beginning of a significant political transition in Senegal.

Macky Sall is expected to leave the presidency on April 2, 2024 for the installation of the newly elected president.

Following protests that began on Thursday against the sentencing of opposition leader, Ousman Sonko, Senegal has been observing a "curfew-style mobile internet shutdown"

At least 16 deaths have been recorded and 500 arrested.

Sonko was sentenced for corrupting the youths but cleared of r**e charges.

His supporters who are mostly the youths say the judgment is politically motivated as he is set to challenge the ruling party in the 2024 presidential election.

University Games 2023: University of Bamenda male Football Team Secures second victory.

The male football team of the University of Bamenda defeated their counterparts at the University of Bertoua 2:0 to record their second consecutive win in the ongoing University games in Ngaoundere.

Teke Anyen Noselbeth scored his second goal of the competition while Song Ncham Edmund scored his first goal after his assist on the first day.

Desmond Nfiaboh and Teke Anyen Noselbeth combined beautifully in the first half for Noselbeth to fire home the opening goal of the match.

The goal was Teke Anyen's second goal of the competition.

UBa continued dominating play and having better possession of the ball with Voufo Frank, and Song Ncham Edmund coming close to doubling UBa's lead. But their efforts were dealt with by the defenders of the University of Bertoua.

In the second half of the match, the University of Bamenda, UBa, continued their domination of the match.

A few minutes into the half, Nfiaboh Desmond again provided a perfect assist to Song Ncham Edmund who went pass the goalkeeper of the University of Bertoua to score the second for UBa.

In two matches played so far, the University of Bamenda is yet to concede a goal.

The University of Bamenda remains top of Pool A with 6 points and +4 goals.

The University of Bamenda will take on the University of Buea on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm.

CAF disqualifies South Sudan U-17 team over age falsification.

The South Sudan U-17 national football team has been disqualified from the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) U17 tournament in Algeria after five of their players failed the MRI test conducted on the team.

South Sudan was Cameroon first opponent and due to this, the junior Lions will now face Mali in their first game on Monday.
