It’s no secret that oil and gas have long been Houston’s lifeblood. The energy industry runs through Space City’s veins, cushioning us while other cities struggle, propelling us ever forward. But there’s something to keep in mind — energy encapsulates far more than oil and gas, from solar to wind. And the City of Houston is all about sustainability. In fact, Houston is a straight-up… [ 989 more words ] https://ubuntu.news/houston-ranks-no-1-in-america-in-renewable-energy-use-no-really/

Dan McCready, the Democratic congressional candidate in North Carolina, sat on the board of a nonprofit organization that lobbied for policies that benefited his solar energy business while allowing electric companies to raise consumer rates to offset state clean energy mandates. Critics of the North Carolina renewable energy law claim the mandate could cost consumers up to $149 million per year in extra fees, while supporters of the law say it has created clean energy jobs and the actual consumer impact of the policy has been minimal so far. Makhanda, South Africa // The annual arts festival in the Eastern Cape town of Makhanda brings thousands of visitors and with them an influx of revenue to local business. This year, the festival also brings water. “The organisers have said we’d have enough water, at least for the week,” says Belinda Meyer, who runs a small bed and breakfast in the usually quiet town in the Eastern Cape province. An Indigenous-led group plans to offer to buy a majority stake in the Trans Mountain oil pipeline from the Canadian government this week or next, a deal that could help Prime Minister Justin Trudeau mitigate election-year criticism from environmentalists. The group, called Project Reconciliation, aims to submit the $6.9 billion offer as early as Friday, managing director Stephen Mason told Reuters, and start negotiations with Ottawa two weeks later. Last Monday, a group of Jewish activists started planning a demonstration with Movimiento Cosecha, an organization advocating for permanent protection for undocumented immigrants. Disturbed by reports they had heard of detention centers along the southern border, where migrant children were held without access to basic necessities like soap and toothbrushes, they felt they had to do something. By Sunday afternoon, they were standing with a crowd of approximately 200 Jews, 36 of whom would later be arrested, outside an ICE detention center in Elizabeth, N.J., to block entrances to the facility and call for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement federal agency. It’s an issue that has been challenging household budgets and occupying much of the political narrative (before Brexit at least) for years; energy prices. Throughout this decade, and much of the last, the UK’s political parties have made claims and counter claims, floated policies, amended policies, and even ditched their own policies. The result of which is a situation where it is very difficult for companies to exist profitably, leading to knock on affects for consumers. Hi! We are Ubuntu News. We are a Sustainable and Socially Responsible Digital Newspaper. We help sustainable business to grow their audience and get more clients.
-Why do we only work with sustainable or socially responsible businesses? -
First we need to ask of what is Sustainable development? Is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, covering social, economic, and environmental issues, including poverty, hunger, health, and gender equality.
We are dedicated to contribute to those responsible people and business. Whom understand that we did not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
As the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has increased by more than 30% since pre-industrial times. Did you know that it's estimated that outdoor air pollution resulted in 4.2 million deaths in 2016? And globally, 663 million people live without easy access to clean water and 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation facilities? - At its core, the issue of a clean environment is a matter of public health.
The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. We are living on this planet as if we had another one to go to. It's time to support those sustainable businesses and help to protect our future generations. At the end of the day, we are all in the same team; humanity.
“Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It's about doing more good.” - Jochen Zeitz (Co-Founder of the B team)
