Before every shoot we typically spend a day configuring the cameras, calibrating the system, preparing props and the avatars for onset previs. The Awakening - Unreal Engine 5 Short Teaser
As part of the Epic Animation Bootcamp 2023 Quantum Stage FX developed a short narrative teaser.
Everything was done in 2.5 weeks time, from concept to asset sourcing, performance capture, animation editing and final rendering in Unreal Engine 5.

Sometimes you just have to channel you inner beast!
As part of testing and improving our #performancecapture pipeline we had Ophir Raray with his new #digilegs in the #volume together with Armin Berger from 47 Grad Pictures as camera operator.
Running everything in #realtime on set allowed us to quickly iterate and finding shots for this test shoot. Everything was done in a single day including markers, solving, characterization, previz, wireless video feed and camera tracking.

Some more R&D improvements. We were finally able to achieve a solid real-time composite with camera and object tracking in Unreal 5.
It might not be obvious immediately but the checkerboard seen in the video is not real. There is a 3D version of it that gets composited in real-time in every frame in the right location in relation to the real camera and its lens. This opens the door for a lot of exciting real-time virtual production possibilities as we continue to improve the quality and iron out the final issues.
