Did you know being by a ‘blue space’ 💙 is as good for you as being near a ‘green space’?

We hear a lot in the media about getting out into green spaces, but sometimes we want something a little different.

The benefits of being near a ‘blue space’ – the sea 🌊 and coastline, 🏄‍♂️ but also rivers 🎣 lakes, canals, waterfalls 💦, even fountains maybe less publicised, but the science behind the benefits has been consistent for at least the last 10 years or more. In essence being near water is good for body and mind.

“We find people who visit the coast, for example, at least twice weekly tend to experience better general and mental health,” says Dr Lewis Elliott, of the University of Exeter and BlueHealth told the Guardian.

Another of the adaptogens we use is L-theanine.

L-theanine is an amino acid that has the capacity to reduce insomnia as well as improving immunity.

In a randomised controlled trial published by the National Library of Medicine in the USA it stated that “L-theanine significantly increases activity in the alpha frequency band which indicates that it relaxes the mind without inducing drowsiness.”

The Collins Dictionary describes an adaptogen as “any of various natural substances used in herbal medicine to normalize and regulate the systems of the body”, meaning that by adding in adaptogens, such as L-theanine into our products it enables increased wellbeing.

According to a 2019 YouGov consumer survey it’s estimated that 11% of UK adults had tried a CBD product (around 6 million people), with higher consumption in younger adults (15% in 25-34 vs. 8% in over 65 year-olds) and females (13% vs. 9% in males).

So why are so many people, adding CBD to their daily wellness routine?

On the Cancer Research UK website, it states that “CBD is a cannabinoid that may relieve pain, lower inflammation and decrease anxiety without the psychoactive ‘high’ effect of THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol).”

In a BBC article, Professor Sumnall, Professor in Substance Use, Liverpool John Moores University said, "There is a greater public awareness of the potential therapeutic uses of medical cannabis and cannabinoids such as CBD, particularly in light of the UK government decision to permit some cannabis prescriptions in response to high-profile campaigns by the families of children affected by severe epilepsy."

Currently in the UK, whilst more research is conducted on the benefits of CBD, it’s classed as a novel food.

What is an adaptogen?

An adaptogen is “a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress”. (Oxford Languages Dictionary)

They are a buzz word in the wellness sector, you’ll see them being mentioned in a wide range of settings.

So why are they such a talking point?

They are non-toxic plants which are believed to have properties which can help the body to resist stress, whether that’s physical, chemical or biological. They’ve been used in Chinese and other healing traditions for centuries.

How do you add them to your diet?
You can find them in teas or tinctures quite easily and we combine ours into our tinctures along with CBD which is also widely believed to have a range of wellness benefits.

What’s the difference between a CBD oil & CBD tincture?

While the term ‘CBD tincture’ is often used interchangeably with ‘CBD oil,’ the two are different.

Tinctures are created by soaking cannabis in alcohol, while oils are made by suspending CBD in a carrier oil, like olive or coconut oil.

What is a CBD oil?
CBD oil is made by extracting the oil from the seeds, flowers and stalks of the h**p plant.

What are CBD tinctures?
The word ‘tincture’ describes a medication kept in alcohol. With a CBD tincture, the CBD is suspended in distilled alcohol.

Oils tend to have a higher potency of CBD, whereas tinctures contain lower potency but higher bioavailability – which means the alcohol helps to preserve the life of the CBD along with enabling a faster absorption rate.
