Few days ago, on October 7, German Death/Black Metallers Mystic Circle have released their cover of Possessed's song 'Death Metal' as digital single and as video too. "Death Metal (Mystic Circle Version)" was available only as bonus track in the physical CD-Digipaks of Mystic Circle's newest self-titled and comeback album, that was published in February under Atomic Fire.

I am impressed by the choice of making a video of this cover, because the images underline the blackened dark visions of the band, while the song lets us remind of a true milestone in Metal and precisely of the debut album of Jeff Becerra's Possessed. "Seven Churches" is the title of that Possessed 's debut album, unleashed in 1985, considered as the first Death Metal album ever, featuring the legendary song "Death Metal" as tenth and last track. According to Blabbermouth, Jeff Becerra told Antihero in 2017 that Chuck Schuldiner of Death cited Possessed as a "primary influence" in "countless" magazine interviews. Possessed have been a "huge influence" for Mystic Circle too, and I think Mystic Circle challenged themselves making with success the cover of one of the most iconic tracks we can think of.
The video is great and the cover respects , musically, the pace and the sonic and lyric imagery of the original version, throwing it anyway into a modern production with the deserved and renewed furious savagery. Yet, the unholy, black and white video, directed by Christine Lincke, doesnt run after the fierce speed of the music, obtaining in this way such a pounding contrast that speaks volumes and fastens even more our attention to the merciless atmosphere.

Obscure congregation SPECTRUM MORTIS was formed in somber MMXV and under the sign of Baal. The gates of hell were opened to emerge their malevolent entrails to the black spell of death and destruction.
After signing with Listenable Records, SPECTRUM MORTIS focused on the writing of their debut full-length album, immersed in ancient worlds between infinite passages buried in the sands of time, going back to the Sumerian saga of Apkallus and Ziggurats.
Under that primordial influence, the band entered The Empty Hall studios in Madrid in 2021 and recorded 'Bit Meseri - The Incantation' scheduled for a September 2022 release.
