"18 monologues élastiques was recorded by Martin Ruch at the Funkhaus on Nalepastrasse in Berlin. Located in an industrial area of the capital, the mysterious, colossal structure from the DDR era looks more like an abandoned cold-war nuclear facility than a working radio station. Here time seems to have stopped back before the Wall came down. Martin Ruch and I were looking for unique recording environments to create the 18 monologues élastiques. While working on the album we came up with the idea of adding a third dimension to the music by including motion. Instead of recording the trombone in a traditional manner, that is, in a single studio and in a static way, we decided to capture the sound while moving throughout the complex. The result is outstanding and adds a cinematographic aspect to the music. To illustrate and describe the eighteen pieces, Joanna Rusinek created paintings and collages for which I wrote descriptive poems."

"In October 2020, the restrictions on assembly relaxed enough to for Bl**er to venture an eight-date tour of Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. Lossing was unable to join the otherwise European-based band, so one of Bl**er’s most enduring collaborators, French guitarist Marc Ducret, stepped in. Although he and Bl**er hadn’t worked together in a quartet setting since 2013, the chemistry they have distilled in duo, trio, and other combos sharpens the attack of this one. If Bl**er’s approach to “Early In The Mornin’” expresses first effort and then defiance, Ducret’s solo, which builds from a bli zard of notes to a cloud of fuzz and then resolves with some unceremoniously chopped chords, simply blows weariness away. The blues aren’t only about melancholy and world-weariness, they’re about successful transcendence. "

"The relationship between jazz and classical music can be fraught. Old stereotypes hold that a musician’s commitment to one interferes with their ability to meet the other’s requirements, or that the virtues of one somehow confer superiority over the other. Swiss trombonist Samuel Bl**er is not the kind of guy who will get his foot caught in one of those traps. He can play each with an insider’s understanding and appreciation, so much so that his Consort In Motion project, which lasted from 2010 to 2013, didn’t sound like something from column A and something from column B, but a buffet where you could get a belly full of both." "This trio is not his core recording ensemble. In fact, until he, Ducret, and drummer Peter Bruun checked into the Centre Culturel ABC in November 2016, they were his NON-recording ensemble. For a time, Bl**er admits, “I liked the idea of only being able to hear the band in a live setting.” Between 2013 and the 2020 they played around 150 gigs on three continents, booked mostly on the strength of YouTube and Soundcloud links. But eventually the recording industry took interest in the trio. “Werner Uehlinger from Hatology was pushing me to record the trio and submit a master tape for a release.” In 2018, the label issued a set recorded the previous year at the Taktlos Jazz Festival."
