"Can you go to therapy for climate change or is that ridiculous?"

That's the premise of "Everything wrong and nowhere to go" where the director, Sindha Agha, exposes herself as a subject in discomfort, a mirror for many of us in these troubled times.
The sense of anxiety caused by climate change might be one of the most common experience, but it feels like we're not yet used to speak up about it. The fragmented images and the therapist words serve as the embankment for the director's emotional stream, a river where to plunge and recognise how it is not ridiculous to feel overwhelmed by the burning surroundings.

Growing up with a single parent is not an uncommon experience, yet it could be still appointed as problematic. The director of this animated doc experienced it first handed: she was raised by her mother alone, who managed to carry on her business in a male dominated field at the same time.
Chinese zodiac signs play a role in shaping the appearances of the characters, until the protagonists overcome them and regain a human resemblance beyond social stereotypes.
We loved the intimate and equally straightforward dialogue between the director and her mother, the way the hand-drawn lines vibrate carrying us in the situations they shared. As simple as it might look - charcoal on paper and off screen dialogue - "Tiger & Ox" addresses a loaded theme without too many filters and with a sense of reconciliation.

Sometimes you only need to wait patiently.
It's a solid principle for observational documentaries where you're somewhere with a camera and, somehow, you just watch out.

"Maria's way" by Anne Milne brings us to the Camino de Santiago not marching, but sitting and watching over. Behind her stall on the path, Maria spends long days waiting for the pilgrims to stop by. Meanwhile we wait to witness her interactions with them.

We had to this documentary in our festival's second edition and we so glad that we can share this story. Click the link below to enjoy the short film and an interview with the director Anne Milne:

The look on her face reveals a combination of silent suffering and irritation. But Maria continues a tradition her mother began some thirty years ago.

First recommendation of 2025 from our past selections!

"One after the other" is a beautifully animated, black and white documentary.
It portrays Grant Sabin, a blues American musician, while he wanders around dragging us into his world.

"Part of why blues players write songs like that is that death is your friend, it isn't the enemy, is not this looming monster that casts a shadow over your life. Death is your destination"

Even in the middle of festivities, family meetings and travels, the end of the year calls for calm and contemplation. December has always been a month for solstice celebrations, a time to collect ideas and start over again. Alisi Telengut in her beautiful, animated documentary "The Fourfold" dives into Mongolian and Siberian mythology and the beliefs about Earth deities interrogate our relation with nature. Evoking an ancient sense of magic, "The Fourfold" is a good conversation starter for the celebrative reunions with friends or solitary meditation.
We wish you a good year and we'll be back in 2025 with the Flying Film Festival 6th edition!
