Oman's unique approach towards development despite its wealth from oil resources is indeed very special!
Instead of westernizing, they are truly trying to conserve their culture and traditional style.

Unlike many of its neighboring countries like The UAE and Saudi Arabia spending billions of dollars constructing tall buildings with futuristic looks. Oman decided to take their country in a completely different direction.

Their decision to this all makes sense the moment you arrive, Not just the surroundings, the sights, experiences, hospitality and above all, the People.

Oman truly makes you feel at home even if it is your first time visiting.

The Archipelago of Zanzibar is majority Muslim, and respect for local values is always appreciated, while the island offers so much and welcomes tourism with open arms, it is important to be respectful of its culture.

If you are traveling to Zanzibar during Ramadan here are some helpful tips for your stay:

1. It is not allowed to eat, drink, or smoke in public during Ramadan. As it is considered very impolite while so many people are fasting.

2. Leisure tourism activities continue operating as normal, but no parties or loud music allowed, while some local restaurants and cafes might be closed during day time, you can still find food around, mostly in restaurants that are part of hotels, and in some that are not they will be blocked off with curtains and continue to serve inside.

3. Modest dress code is applicable at all times when in public and not only during Ramadan. While locals do not expect visitors to wear the same way as they do, it is therefore important to consider wearing non reavealing outfits covering shoulders to knees for both men and women, this also reflects as a sign of respect.

But The dress code is not just during ramadan but something to take note all year round whenever you visit Zanzibar in areas where local people live.

4. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum at all times. Holding hands is acceptable, but nothing more unless you are somewhere more private or secluded.

Beyond these rules, Zanzibar is very much open for business during Ramadan. You can therefore still enjoy enjoy your trip, but being respectful of the local culture is a great way to immerse yourself with the destination.

Ramadan changes every year as it follows the lunar calender and it last for only about 29 to 30 days depending on the moon sighting. And expected to start from March 10th in 2024

The Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the largest hindu festivals and it happens every year,

The community of Hindus makes up the minority of Zanzibar's population of over 90% muslims but the cultural and religious diversity has been for long the foundation of religious tolerance, this allows them to practice their religion with respect of other faiths.

The Hadzabe tribe are a living evidence of humanity's old ways of living. I spent my first 24 hours with this tribe just to see how their women build a house in under 3 hours. Despite modern pressures to settle, these hunter gatherers are still managing to live a traditional lifestyle.
