Teachers' emotional intelligence (EI) is related to several educational outcomes of interest. However, it has been assessed through self-reports or general EI tests in the absence of an objective test that uses dynamic stimuli and has greater ecological validity in relation to the demands of the professional educational context. We present the development and validation of the VIdeo-Test of Emotional Intelligence for Teachers (VITIED), a new performance measure to assess the EI of secondary school teachers using the Mayer and Salovey (1997) model and the Situational Judgement Test paradigm.

The VITIED is a free audio-visual test with a number of advantages:
1. Scope, time and cost: it is a performance test that assesses the teacher's EI through a simple and coherent structure that is agile and relatively quick to administer.
2. Innovative and realistic format: the videos presented are more plausible and closer to the teacher's reality than a static situation written and scripted by EI experts.
3. Comprehensive assessment: the proposed audio-visual test assesses the four EI skills together and in an integrated way as we cognitively process emotional information.
4. Specificity of the test: VITIED presents different real and representative situations that teachers usually face in their educational work.
