Kits Temple

Kits Temple CHECK OUT THE LINKS, THE PHOTOS TAB, CKUW SPINITRON PAGE. that should make everything clear! Or via home-made d.i.y. podcast if need be!

Coming to you direct from 95.9 fm CKUW.ca studios (parvus sed potens) at UWinnipeg in the heart of the city. Either way, this Temple is situated at the corner of Relaxation Road and the Excitation Exit. Presenting a delectable Musical Brunch - full of tasty morsels, on platters of every kind of audio cuisine. Hearty helpings from here, and there. Vibrational flavours from back then, and right now.

Carefully cooked up in the idio-sync-opated kitchen of Kits Temple. Served both hot, and real chill. Eclectic, exceptional, excellent tunage! World happenings, reflected lyrically and compositionally, with commentary that's both minimal, and personal, off the cuff. Every second Saturday morning at 11 via www.ckuw.ca, Channel 713 on MTS tv (Manitoba), and 95.9 fm radio in Winnipeg Canada. Joining this Temple is clearly a sound decision! ;)
Prior to the 2020 pandemic, Kits Temple's 'jazz brunch-for-the-ears' - Temple of Jazz - aired live for 2 hours on alternating Saturdays at 11 a.m. (CT). [Moz Taylor of Montreal's renowned Jazz Blvd took our place for 12 months during the covid shutdown of the University.] Kits also produced monthly Mud Puddle Radio episodes for a couple of years, and prior to MudPud and Temple o' Jazz, the weekly 1 hr. music + words mix: Temple of Sound, heard on Saturday mornings at 8 for two and a half years. Kits also produced shows and/or segments - long, long ago - for Radio McGill (Mtl), CJUM fm campus radio (Wpg), CFRO fm Co-op Radio (Van), and COR cable fm community radio (Wpg).

i grew up in a home where Xmas Day meant a fancy family dinner, and a heap of recently-unwrapped books, LPs, and sweaters. In the northern climes, THIS is how to ENJOY winter, and carry that Xmas feeling thru seasons to come. (David lacks his sweater here. In the airport, heading somewhere warmer perhaps...)

The man who read the world: David Bowie’s son launches an online book club in his honour. Something not well known about Bowie: he was an avid reader, sometimes finishing a book in a single day. Rock star David Bowie was “a beast of a reader,” according to his son, Duncan Jones; so Jones decided to start an online book club to honour his literature-loving dad. The official Instagram account of the late rock star dubbed it the ‘Bowie Book Club’. David Bowie’s literary tastes were wide-ranging; including classics such as Gustave Flaubert’s ‘Madame Bovary’ and ‘The Iliad’ by Homer; novels s such as A ‘Clockwork Orange’ by Anthony Burgess and ‘Infants of the Spring’ by Wallace Thurman; together with a wide variety of nonfiction works: history, biography, art, architecture and more….. even the Beano!
Three years before he died, David Bowie made a list of the one hundred books that had transformed his life – a list that formed something akin to an autobiography. It’s telling that among Bowie’s final public statements was that this list of his Top 100 books was offered as part of the David Bowie Is museum exhibit. As Bowie has apparently left no memoir behind, the closest that he ventured to autobiography is this list of books. Some he chose because he wanted his fans to read them, but many selections have a deeper resonance in his work, in that they fuelled his creativity and shaped who he was.

This is perhaps the most far-fetched greeting card I ever designed. (I was too young to know any better.) I've recreated it here for a square format; in 1977, it was a Z-fold card: 5" x 7" opening to 15" x 7", with 22 characters acting out the entire song. (They were also too young to know any better.)

two days till your next jolt in the Electric Chair; and just NINE DAYS until the Winter Solstice. So far, we've been LIVE for you on Xmas Day, and Xmas Eve, on Kits' birthday, and on Boxing Day. But this is the first time (i think) we've hit the actual SOLSTICE with the Revival. (seems to me, we DID greet the solstice one early morning in the Temple of Sound). See ya soon! stay warm! and shop local (if shop you must)! Mind over matter -- think hot hot hot!

TEMPLE of JAZZ on 95.9 fm / www.ckuw.ca

Temple of Jazz is usually heard 11 am thru 1 pm on alternating Saturdays. Tucked up high and away at the CKUW studios (parvus sed potens) - in the University of Winnipeg in the heart of the city, Temple of Jazz is situated at the broad cross-ways of relaxation and excitation.

During the summer months of 2020, and until station volunteers are again permitted in our cozy UWinnipeg facility, Temple of Jazz is temporarily on “Pause”. In its place, we’re pleased to bring you some of the ‘best of jazz radio’ - shows from the archives of JAZZ BOULEVARD by Moz Taylor of Montreal, PQ. Very cool. Try it out soon! [https://jazzboulevard.ca/]
