In 1995, MOSMA was founded as an Audio Engineering school focused primarily on technical training for Music Production. As the Creative Industry grew in Manitoba and the rest of Canada, so did the need for skilled engineers in other fields of audio production. Over 22 years of evolving with the industry, our Audio in Media diploma programme now encompasses even more advanced technical training in the four main fields of audio production: Music Production, Sound for Visual Media (Film, Television, and Game Audio), Live Sound Reinforcement, and Radio Production.
Our 1 year Diploma programme, Audio in Media, is designed to give students the necessary theoretical and practical training to begin their career in the Audio Production Industry as highly skilled Audio Engineers. With over 1300 hours, it is equivalent to that of 2 year University or College program. The reality is, to thrive and be competitive in this industry you require numerous skills and experience.
Guided by an experienced faculty and a curriculum developed over 22 years; students gain hands-on experience working in professional studios equipped with the latest industry standard equipment and software. Students participate in a variety of development workshops, have the opportunity to collaborate with numerous musicians, music producers and engineers, and are mentored by industry professionals in areas of Multi-Track Recording, Mastering, Radio Production, Live Sound, Film, Television, and Game Audio. Finally, students choose the fields they have a passion to pursue and their 8 week practicum is customized with our industry partners to offer more advanced ‘on-the-job’ skill development in those fields.
Being apart of the MOSMA community doesn’t stop at graduation; we’re always working hard to provide career development for our alumni. Our alumni have access to economical studio rates, workshops for career development, and lectures for industry insight and skill building and an annual membership which makes these resources even more economical. With decades of training under our belt, training hundreds of students... it’s common to bump into a MOSMA grad somewhere in the industry!
