We are so excited to finally be able to share this! It was an absolute honor for us to record this dub for in this past May. Everyone on this project was so passionate not only for the film and it's history but for the people that will be impacted by having access to this language. We took this opportunity to learn so much more about the Anishinaabe people and their history. Much respect to all the partners that brought this to life! Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council, University of Manitoba, Disney/Lucasfilm and APTN. Here is the link to the official media release.

PERFORMER FEATURE:

HELLO FIASCO (Saturday Headliner #1)

Indie/Pop-Rock

Helena, MT, USA / Winnipeg, MB

Saturday @ 10:30 pm (Mainstage)

Hello Fiasco is a Canadian-American Pop Rock band that emerged publicly in 2021. Frontman Eric LaBossiere lives on the US side in Helena, MT (born Canadian), while the rest of the band all live in the Winnipeg, Manitoba region, including Joel Couture (bass), Joel Perreault (lead guitars/backing vocals), and Guy Abraham (keys/Ableton/backing vocals). Winnipeg drummer Cam Cordoviz, who is currently working with the band on their 2nd album, will be joining Hello Fiasco for 2024 touring.

With lyrics that are sometimes cheeky and sarcastic, the band’s songs are often meaningful and deep. Backed by the power and vulnerability of LaBossiere’s stylish voice, which is reminiscent of British Pop Rock like Bowie but also holding the American vibe of Brenden Urie (Panic! at the Disco) and Brandon Flowers (The Killers), the band’s driving rhythm section is wrapped up in a tapestry of majestic electric guitar tones, catchy piano melodies, synth landscapes and a barrage of powerful harmonies that all come together to make this Canadian-heavy band a force to reckon with. They might be Pop Rock, but Hello Fiasco is definitely more than the standard fare of rock instrumentation and same old song writing we have all gotten used to.

This!!! Something needs to change and soon!

This!!! Something needs to change and soon!

I feel so sad about Spotify CEO Daniel Ek saying the cost of creating “content” is close to zero…For multiple reasons

(There’s many types of creators on Spotify, but I’ll speak as a songwriter & artist bc that’s what I know. And I’ll focus on the cost of creating songs as that’s the “content” I put on Spotify -we can talk another day about the cost of everything else😂)

Ok, here we go.

Firstly, Daniel’s comment implies that making content is my goal

It is not.

Creating work that fully expresses my voice, sharing it with people to (hopefully) have a positive impact, paying my bills & having enough for retirement is my goal. “Content” is one vehicle to (maybe) help me get there

Me creating “content” is DANIEL’S goal for me so that his business remains viable

Which brings me to my second point:

“close to zero” is simply not true.

My album DEAR JOHN cost around $20,000 to make. It took three months.

(btw time IS money bc time I spend creating is time I can’t work to earn real life cash)

But it’s not just about time & money for each “piece of content”

I wrote my first song at 14. I’m now 40. I’ve been fine tuning my songwriting, arranging, production & performance skills for 26 years - all at my own cost

So DEAR JOHN (recorded in 2020 & my best work, if using the above goal of positive impact) actually took me 23 years to make

Imagine not paying a CEO, with 23 years experience, fairly for his work 🙄

I love that my music is globally accessible and, right now, if I take it off Spotify I cut off my nose to spite my face

I want to create & share my work and I’m even happy to do it on a budget

(This morning I shot a film clip in my neighbours bathroom. My partner filmed it for free & I spent $24 on red lipstick. That’s “close to zero” for you)

But -whether it’s time or money- making songs costs. And making videos to promote those songs (& actually get them streamed) costs too

So if one platform provides all the worlds music to most of the worlds people, and the musicians themselves are required to work harder and harder to get that music heard, while earning less and less - well, that’s not a business model to be celebrated. That’s exploitation.

This has been a long time coming but I’m happy to finally announce that my new album, “Mystic Humanism” will be released on March 15th. There’s so much to say about this album, I don’t even know where to start except that I’m super excited for you to hear it.

There’ll be a couple more singles before the album drops, more on that tomorrow, but if you want to hear one of them now, you can pre-order the album on Bandcamp and get an instant download of the title track, “Mystic Humanism”.

Also, there's going to be a super special album release show, more details on that to come soon but for now, save the date: March 29th.

Our Story

Contact us at [email protected] or see more at www.privateearrecording.com Private Ear Recording is a family run multi room recording and mixing facility located in downtown Winnipeg. Home of local producer/engineer John Paul Peters and managed by Vanessa Peters, Private Ear is capable of handling a wide range of clients and projects, everything from singer/songwriters to large big bands, all analog sessions to 5.1 mixing and everything in between.

STUDIO A consists of a 400 sq. ft. control room with 11’ ceilings and provides a comfortable listening environment with balanced, accurate sound reproduction. We have a great combination of vintage and modern gear built around a Neotek Elite II mixing console, 650pt bantam patchbay, and ProTools HD (32 I/O). Monitoring by Barefoot Sound, Yamaha and Avantone. Studio A sports a diverse selection of microphone preamps and a comprehensive collection of outboard gear to cover any situation. Recording platforms include ProTools (HD), 2’ Tape (Ampex Mm1200) and Radar24.

The 1020 sq. ft. live room has 12’ ceilings for a wonderfully open yet controlled sound, and is perfect for both music and video recording. The room is large enough to function as a staging area for video productions, which have much to benefit from the sonic control and isolation of the room against the usual environmental variables existing in other un-dedicated spaces. The live room has three isolation booths, ready for very complex sessions.

STUDIO B is built around Protools 12. The 360 sq. ft. control room is spacious and supports a large isolation room (170 sq. ft.). Studio B is the perfect space voice over, ADR, Source Connect, mixing, post production, overdubbing and smaller recording sessions. Features include a 42' LCD monitor, 24' LCD monitors in Isolation room for sync to picture, Dynaudio BM15A monitors, and a Furman HA6 Headphone Amplifier. We also offer location recording and professional rehearsal spaces. Since 1994, Private Ear has been one of Winnipeg’s premiere recording studios. Nominated 3 times for Studio of the Year at the Western Canada Music Awards, Private Ear has recorded several Juno-winning and -nominated albums, plus over a dozen WCMA-winning and -nominated albums and three Engineer of the Year nominations. We are also a Manitoba Film and Music-accredited studio. Contact Vanessa Peters (Studio Manager) and John Paul Peters (Primary engineer, Producer) at [email protected] to discuss your project!
