A report headed to city council in the new year will seek approval of a $20 million makeover of Windsor's Riverfront Festival Plaza.

Administration will present council three options, with Option A, called the Dynamic Destination Design, being the most expensive.

Option A features four distinct zones, each tailored to support a variety of events and activities. Key features include green spaces and walking paths, two modern shade structures, two water features, a platform that can be used as a second stage, and the opportunity for an iconic centerpiece, such as a seasonal Christmas tree.

Option B, called Functional Elements has an estimated cost of $17 million, and would offer one water feature, with green spaces and walking paths.

The third option only includes green space and walking paths, costing $13 million.

A plan to relocate and revitalize Sandpoint Beach will go before Windsor city council Jan. 13, their first meeting of the new year.

The proposal involves shifting the swimming area away from hazardous waters after two men died this past May.

Higher fencing and additional signage was installed in June in an effort to deter swimming in unsafe areas.

The masterplan features new amenities, including an accessible playground, splash pad, improved beach facilities, and enhanced landscaping, and comes at an estimated cost of $15 million.

Construction continues on the ice rink in front of city hall in downtown Windsor.

Work on the $15.4-million project started in July, with concrete poured at the end of October.

Oscar Construction is in charge of the project and were aiming for a December completion, with the hope of a Jan. 2025 grand opening.

Ward 3 councillor Renaldo Agostino says still there's a crucial part missing.

"The number one thing we're waiting for is the chiller, which is the most important component of this, it keeps the ice cold right? So we're just waiting on that, and I think once that's in we'll be ready to go."

A Canadian float will once again take part in one of America's biggest New Year's Day spectacles: the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

The float entry comes from Toronto-based Coding for Veterans, a not-for-profit organization that provides courses to train current and former military members in the IT sector.

Windsor native Jeff Musson is the executive director of Coding for Veterans.

Musson says last year they won two awards including the international float award.

"We were fortunate to be invited back to have a float in this year's parade, and that float will feature not only Canadian military veterans, but American military veterans as float riders."

Keep an eye out Wednesday, and get the full story on our website!
