St. Clair College will be suspending some programs this fall due to recent changes to the international student cap.

Starting this September, 18 programs will be suspended primarily based on student demand now that the college has received their allocation from the province in terms of the number of international student offers they're able to make.

Some of the impacted programs include dental assisting, power engineering, hospitality, fashion design, event management, and some programs offered at the Chatham campus such as office administration.

Michael Silvaggi, St. Clair College President, says those currently in the impacted programs will continue on.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says U.S. President Donald Trump isn’t joking – he believes Trump’s threat to make Canada the 51st state is a “real thing,” in part due to his desire to gain access to Canada’s critical minerals, according to a source who heard the behind-closed-doors comment at a summit in Toronto on Friday.

Trudeau made the remarks before a crowd of business and trade leaders who were brought together to discuss how to bolster Canada’s economy in the face of Trump’s ongoing tariff threat. The comments were made after media had been asked to leave the room.

In recent months, Trump has repeatedly proposed Canada could avoid tariffs if it agreed to join the U.S. as the 51st state. Trump has also referred to the prime minister as ‘Governor Trudeau’ on social media.

Starting next Monday, February 10, the Public Works Department will begin work on the Matchett Road bridge over Turkey Creek, between Morton Drive and Stuart Boulevard.

This project aims to repair the bridge, and upgrade the existing sidewalk on the bridge into a multi-use path.

From February to April, both lanes will be narrowed, there will be occasional lane closures with delays expected. However, from April to May a full bridge closure will take effect with no vehicle or pedestrian access across.

A large commercial development in east Windsor has been given approval by a city committee.

The development is proposed to be located on a vacant piece of property north of Tecumseh Road East and west of Catherine Street. The two roads are expected to have a new intersection with signals to help with traffic in the area.

The proposed development calls for commercial uses that will include retail, a gas station and restaurants - with the gas pumps expected to be part of Phase 1. The plan calls for approximately 25,000 square meters of floor space and just under 1,400 parking spots.

While it has yet to be confirmed what exactly the development will be, the conceptual drawing shows it will include the colour "Costco Red".
