One thing we have all experienced is the constant changes Facebook makes on the regular!

To bring more value to you, as much as possible I want to provide you with the most up-to-date accurate information available to me. See a summary of the latest changes below.

In my opinion, these changes are welcomed. It eliminates the like or follow conundrum for fans. The Q&A feature allows business/page owners to interact with their community and provide them with valuable insights. Dedicated pages news feed enables us to discover more relevant content easier and quicker and suggests new connections. I’m indifferent about the public figure prioritization, I like to think that all interactions are equal but, I suppose if Michelle Obama commented on my feed I would want it there forever in bright lights! The updated task-based admin controls are segmented into categories such as insights, ads, community activity and messages. This is valuable if you have multiple people involved in your social media marketing management.

If you have not already noticed these changes, they are rolling them out slowly so you should see them soon(ish)! What do you think of these changes? Do they impact you?

As lockdowns are set to continue and the platform matures, the realm of possibility for utilization of this platform is expanding. As with any platform, make sure to evaluate its effectiveness to your brand and audience before you add it to your social media marketing toolbelt.

Business, entertainment, news, activism and social connection will never be the same.

Where you are today is the sum of your habits. This is as true in life as it is in social media marketing.

I got to thinking while stopped in Windsor traffic (see pic) during my new daily habit; what are some of the small habits that can make a big impact on social media success?

Here are my recommended habits to improve your organic social media marketing results:
• Schedule time to write your posts, source images, and research hashtags.
• It’s not all about you – write with your audience in mind.
• Select specific days & times you will post and stick to it.
• Record metrics weekly.

“Tell me your story. What is the ‘why’ behind Top Dog Social?”

I felt perplexed when this question was posed to me earlier this week. The truth is I started this business for a myriad of reasons, so where do I start? Which ones do I choose to share? Do I tell the REAL story or the FLUFFY version?

Before starting my business in 2019, I suffered multiple setbacks to my health and looking back it’s no wonder why - I had been burning the candle at both ends for over a decade. I had no choice but to stop what I was doing. It was the catalyst I needed to make a change.

That’s it, I’m doing it.

I had dreams of running my own business at a young age but continuously dismissed any notions as too risky, no access to capital, not experienced enough, too hard etc. I have always admired and advocated for women in leadership roles and business owners. Looking back, even my university dissertation was on women entrepreneurs! Now it was time to be one.

Take control back. Make an impact.

I needed to work when I wanted, where I wanted. I needed work-to-live not live-to-work. I needed to work on projects that not only fulfilled me but used my talents to serve others also.

So I did.

What's your why?

'Tis the season! Warmest wishes to you and yours, from all of us at Top Dog Social 🐾💕

What does 2021 look like for you?

The final days of 2020 are here, if you are like me, planning for 2021 is at the forefront of your mind. But, if you are also like me, this year’s chaotic nature has you distracted and your brain is feeling a little mushy right now! There is hope on the horizon, but we still must punch through this next phase of uncertainty.

In January, I attended a fun & informative Vision Board Workshop hosted by Debora Gemmell of Thrive Wellness Solutions. A snapshot of my 2020 vision board below. OK. So, my cheque for $100K did not come to fruition (there’s still time 😊) but many of the other elements on my board did. Which I believe to be an exceptional achievement given it was 2020 after all!

I need some extra clarity and focus so I will be participating again this year! Want to come with?

Looking forward to 2021?

I can hear a resounding “hell yeah” from all of you! I too am looking forward to it, but it may surprise you that it’s NOT because it’s finally the END of 2020.

Surprisingly, I have been extremely fortunate this year both personally and professionally. As I reflect with gratitude on the multiple wins I experienced in what will arguably be a historic year for all things going wrong; it can only mean things are going to get better!

BE FEARLESS

This was my mantra for 2020.

It became imperative for me this March when I lost key clients due to the financial impact COVID 19 was having on them. The mantra helped me propel myself forward and inspired a resilience that I needed to keep the business going.

I am thrilled to report a 60% YOY growth for Top Dog Social this year!

I am percolating new mantras for 2021 – any suggestions?

How do you help local businesses stay afloat when you are struggling financially yourself?

Over the course of the last several months, many businesses that did not necessarily embrace digital & social marketing now rely on it. Give their organic marketing efforts a boost, these can really make a difference!

Please share with your network! Simples!🐾

Are you exhausted by the amount of posts you must produce to be seen on social media?

Yes? Good news! You can STOP RIGHT NOW!

Step away from the stock photos and indulge me for just a moment.

The #1 misconception I see clients have is that they think they need to be on every platform and pumping their feeds with “spray & pray” mentality. This could not be further from the truth.

Your first and most important consideration must be your target audience. Ask yourself the following questions:
• Who are they (demographics)?
• What problems do your product/service solve for them?
• What is their platform of choice? (Where, can be multiple)
• When do they consume it?
• What is their preferred format for consuming this type of information? (How)
e.g. University students have vastly different schedules, needs, wants, and priorities than executives with children

A little research can go a long way in aiding your ability to connect with your target audience. Creating messaging that resonates with your audience, posting it on the right platform, in the right format, at the right time are the steps you need to follow to improve your chances of achieving the success you desire with social media marketing.

Does your fear of the camera fill you with anxiety? Do you try to avoid it at all costs?

You are not alone, many of my clients dread this component of social media content creation. It’s not easy to put yourself out there. I mean REALLY put yourself out there, warts and all, on a consistent basis.

Here are some of the tips I have learnt over the years to push back the fear, quiet the nay-sayers in your head and take the leap.

1. It’s not about you, it’s about what you have to say.

2. It’s ok if you mess up.
~ You ARE going to make mistakes. That saying “nobody’s perfect” – it’s a real thing. Take it from someone who aims for perfection everyday. As long as you base your communications on facts and are not trying to hurt people you should be ok long-term!

3. The mirror is your friend, not your foe.
~ Whether it’s a photo or video, practicing in the mirror can be hugely beneficial
~ Camera phones also give us the ability to try, try, and try again. Use them.

4. Plan ahead, and practice (again).
~ Nothing can be more stressful that trying to get the “right” shot in a time crunch. Plan ahead, and avoid that sweaty upper lip.

5. Hire a professional.
~ Get the help you need when you need it.

Which one of these 5 tips are you going to try? I’d love to know! 🐾
