NELSON SURETTE - ACADIAN ART EXHIBIT
During the month of August, I have been priviledged to work with the Friends of the Yarmouth Art Gallery by showcasing a tremendous exhibit of local Acadian art from renowned painter, Nelson Surette. The exhibit is being displayed at the Yarmouth Art Gallery for the entire month of August. It was very popular during le Congrés mondiale des Acadiens. There are four main events that I will be covering, two of which can be viewed using the link below. I urge everyone to drop in and experience thought provoking local art that depicts the struggles and triumphs of the Acadien people.

On June 1, 2024, Yarmouth residents protest the recent decision of the NS Provincial Government to close of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Western Branch located in Yarmouth. The gallery officially opened on May 28, 2006. It is the first satellite gallery of any provincial art gallery in Canada.

Saint Joseph Church, Surette's Island, NS
"The Last Mass"
On February 4th, 2024, parishioners of Saint Joseph's Church, Surette's Island, NS celebrated their last mass at their beloved place of worship. On this date, 4 churches in the Municipality of Argyle were permanently closed and secularized by the Catholic Church due to low attendance. Including Saint Joseph, the three other churches closed were Saint-Michael's (Wedgeport), Saint- Agnès (Quinan) and Saint-Famille (Amirault's Hill). Parishioners from these former churches will now need to travel to Sainte Anne du Ruisseau to attend their weekly mass.

It was a perfect September day to hold an outdoor wedding at the picturesque Digby Pines and Resort. Brittany & Brandon were surrounded by close family and friends as they exchanged vows. They was also accompanied by their furry friends too. Thought felt speeches were a plenty during the meal, but the highlight of the reception was definitely the choreographed first dance that the bridal couple displayed to everyone's applause.
Brittany and Brandon wowed their guests when they strolled onto the floor and executed a beautifully choreographed dance. Unbeknownst to many, the wedding couple had practiced for many weeks by taking lessons from Trena Graham at Trena's Dance Studio. Looks like all that practicing was worth the effort!
