✨ Welcoming February; the coldest, shortest, slowest moving month of the year.

Did you know that 2024 is a leap year? This month, we add an extra day to our calendars; keeping our days in sync with the Earth's orbit around the sun. This means more time to learn, create and accomplish!

On top of this, we celebrate Black History Month, Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Family Day and so much more. While we take the time to learn about history and celebrate love, it's also important to think about how these days and topics can effect an individuals mind and mental health.

Follow me as we jump into a new month, focusing on a whole new perspective of what it looks like to learn and love yourself.

🗓️ ... and just like that, we're onto the next chapter.

January was filled with so many things: new memories, emotional moments, lots of kitten snuggles and a whole lot of coffee.

Although I took the month quite slow, I have never been more proud of myself. I was able to finally take the appropriate time to pause, reflect and recharge; something I should be doing more often than not. Now that I'm feeling that surge of motivation again, I'm so excited for what the upcoming month will bring.

So, here's to an amazing past month, an excited new one, and the rest of a brand new year. We've got this 🥂

📝 Wondering how we're almost finished with the first month of 2024? Me too.

Journaling is something that I think I'll always love doing. It's a way for me to take a step back from reality and reconnect with myself.

Last year, I fell out of my writing habits. I always felt so rushed and busy, forgetting to take a step back and look at the bigger picture: the life around me. This year, I've promised myself to give it another go, making sure to make time to check in with myself and make sure I'm able to reflect on who I am, what I'm learning and what I'd like to carry into the future. This year, I want to ensure that my energy is being spent on things I love and that serve me purpose- and this is one of the ways I can do that.

So, take a moment. Take it all in... what did you do over this past month? What are you excited to bring into February? I hope reading just one of these questions will help you connect deeper with yourself... I know it's helping me.

Always on your phone? Me too and somehow, I still suck at answering my personal messages 😅

Although social media is so important in today's small business industry, I'm finding so many people want to take a step back from it. Social media is one of those things that I think everyone can see the positives and negatives of, and that's one of the reasons why it's so tricky to navigate.

Setting boundaries, taking breaks and using it as a tool rather than a distraction are some of the simple ways that I've found I can use social media in the best way possible. With that being said, it took me a LONG time to figure out and actually implement. Honestly, I'm still learning what works for me as not only a business owner but also as an individual.

When choosing the name for my business, I wanted to make sure it was memorable. I also wanted to make sure that it truly represented me and what I stand for; thus became The Trove Lifestyle Company ✨

The launch of my business wouldn't have been successful without the collection of help, guidance and support I've received and continue to have. My 'career trove' is made up of the small businesses and powerful people I've been so lucky to work with and learn from. These small business owners have helped me to learn and accomplish so much over these past few years. Becoming a social media manager, content creator, along with learning the ropes of building websites and e-commerce platforms might not have been successful without the amazing clients I've had the pleasure of working with.

The Trove Lifestyle Company truly embodies and represents all of the special projects l've been able to contribute to in the past, am currently working on, and any future projects that I will contribute to within this journey. By working alongside such amazing people, I’ve been able to create The Trove Lifestyle Compoany; a passion-driven, small business centred, special place.

I don't know about you but I've been getting A LOT of these types of quotes on my social media feed... and honestly, I'm here for it 🙌🏼

I know a lot of people view these types of quotes as cheesy but, when I read these words, I immediately stopped to reflect on what my life looks like today. If you told me 10 years ago that THIS is what I would be doing with my life, I wouldn't have believed you.

There have been so many times in the past that I've said something along the lines of "why is this happening?!". Truth be told, I've realized it was always because I had out-grown that part of my life. Reflecting on the times when I had that internal dialogue, I'm realizing it was always the universe's way of telling me "get a move on, I'm ready to see what's next".

Seeing this quote has reminded me that it's time to flourish in the present. I'm finally in a position to recognize and listen to all of signs of growth and pursue whatever follows- I wouldn't be in the position that I am today if I wasn't ready for what's to come.

🎨 January... in colour.

I'm sure that not everyone agrees with my thoughts on what this month feels like... I know mother nature sure doesn't 🤣

For me, when I think of January, I think of warm, muted tones. Why? I honestly couldn't tell you.

I think of January and think of a month filled with changes. For many people, January is a month where we implement life-changing shifts, making it quite difficult to go through. It's the beginning of a new year and many people, including myself, view the month as a way to start new. Although January is a tough month to get through, I find we always circle back to the importance of patience and allowing ourselves grace as we grow and adapt.

I think associating patience and growth is what brings such lovely colours to my mind when thinking of the month. January has brought us some of the darkest, grey days but, somewhere within those days, I would get a glimpse of light. In some way, during these cloud-filled days, I've always been reminded of one simple task; to make sure I'm giving myself the love that my mind, body and soul so desperately need. I hope that reading this was your reminder to give yourself the same.

New year, new outlook, same face. Well, kind of... I wear a lot less make-up now 🤣

Do you ever look at old photos and remember what was going on in your life at that exact point in time? Looking back at my branding shoot with reminds me of such a crucial point in my business journey.

Meeting Lily that day was honestly comparable to a miracle. As I was just starting in my social media career, the feeling of overwhelm and stress was at it's peak. I found Lily through social media and immediately fell in love with aesthetic she created; there was (and still is) so much genuine emotion and intention behind every single post.

Not only was that the first time I met Lily, it was one of the first times that I felt seen within my industry. In our conversation, we talked so much about how social media plays such a crucial role in today's society. It was one of the first times that I heard someone else express how difficult it must be to manage not only your own social media page but to manage multiple others as well. Being able to hear Lily's genuine thoughts all while watching her in action, being such a passionate creative, made this experience unlike anything I could've asked for.

I'll always be so grateful for Lily and the immense amount of support she's given me. Whether she knows it or not, through my time getting to know and support her work, I've been able to connect with an amazing community of female small business owners who are respectful, genuine and supportive. I'll always be reminded of this when looking back at our branding shoot.

This is why meeting Lily that day was like a miracle. To have such profoundly positive, mindset-changing memories caught on camera is something I never even dreamed of. To have them expressed through the lens of such a powerful woman is truly a great honour.

As a freelance worker, everyday looks different. Whether it be where I work, who I'm working for, or even what tasks I'm completing... all I know is that as long as I have my laptop, phone, pen and a notebook, I'll be able to complete whatever my day brings.

⌨️ January... but typeface pairs.

One of the make-or-breaks regarding graphic design, branding, and content creation is typeface pairings. Finding the perfect match between which typeface to use for the Title, Subtitle and Body can be difficult but, so satisfying.

For me, I feel as though January is a month of simplistic elegance. There is so much talk of change along with peace in oneself. The typeface pairings that I have chosen to display in reflection of this month all have something in common- they communicate using clean, soft lettering in a confident, eye-catching way.

✨ J A N U A R Y - 2 O 2 4 ✨

Moving forward, you'll notice some themes as live through each month. This month, I want to focus on giving you a clear picture behind the term 'a fresh start' and show you what it means to me.

Having a monthly theme will not only help me stay focused on what I do (my adhd brain loves to give me side-quests involving new career interests), but it will also help me show you my process and give you a good look at the ins and outs of being a small town social media manager.

I can't wait to dive into this month's topic and show you all what the reality of freelance work looks like. Even though were almost half way through the month, starting somewhere is better than not starting at all! Giving myself grace as I navigate through this period of time has been so important. It took a lot of time for me to accept the fact that I'm allowed to take breaks and now that I have, I can finally take a step back and appreciate the beauty of life as we know it.

Yes that's right, new year means new me... are we really surprised?! 🤣

As I ring in the new year on a slow but steady start, I've decided to refresh my pages/profiles. Over the past year I've grown into a person that my younger self wouldn't recognize and I want my business pages to be reflective of that.

Don't get me wrong, I am truly thankful for all of the opportunities I was given in 2023- I wouldn't be the person I am today without them! I was able to meet some of my closest friends, create life-long memories, and even connect with some of my amazing clients through my past roles... 2023 showed me the best of the best and the worst of the worst; I was so happy to say goodbye to the year and start new.

As I begin 2024, I'm putting my past self in her place and stepping forward with new goals, intentions and honestly... everything in between. Do I have a plan? Not really; how are we supposed to make plans in this world as it stands? Although I'm still figuring out what life will look like for me moving forward, I am trusting the uncertainty of this universe and placing myself in a position where I can shift my focus to what I do best.

Here's to a new year, a fresh start and an incredible amount of newfound self-respect.

🎄It’s time to focus on the important things.

This time last year, I didn’t even know that I would be taking a step into this journey. It’s so amazing to see how far I’ve come as a small business owner and honestly, as a human. I’ve done so much learning and growing over this year and can’t be more proud of the person I’ve become. 2023 showed me the good, bad and literally everything in between- it's been a whirlwind of a year and I have no idea know how it's almost over... it's all felt like a blur. I’ve met so many amazing humans, been lucky to assist with countless creative projects and have said some exciting hellos, and heartbreaking goodbyes. Never in my life would I have been able to predict or prepare for what this past year has brought me and now, it’s time to take a break.

I’ll be logging out of my business account on both Facebook and Instagram from now until the New Year to spend time with my loved ones, family and maybe finally get my house unpacked 🤣 Wishing everyone the best holiday filled with endless love, joy and relaxation. I’ll see you all in the new year!

Hi everyone! 👋🏼

It’s no secret that I’ve been silent on here… again. Sorry about that, things have been hectic! I wanted to take a second to update my community with some news.

I have made the decision to step away from my position at Coco’s Cookies. This meaning the merchandise brought in through The Trove Lifestyle Co., is no longer available to purchase at the bakery. I wish nothing but the best for the team there and am so grateful for the opportunities that I've been given.

I hope you can all take the time to be understanding and patient as I navigate through the unsure weeks ahead. If you had any items on hold or had your eye on picking up anything in specific, please send me a message as most items displayed on my table were sold as “in-store only” specials. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my stock- you'll be updated as soon as I know! Most of my inventory was perfect for an in-store setting and I know won't sell as successfully through online channels- it's what happened at the beginning of my online store launch! As for now, I need a few days properly process and plan for what life will look like moving forward.

After these details have been figured out, I will be taking a long break from social media to make sure I take the time to focus on my loved ones and my well-being through the holiday season.

Thank you all for your endless support- I’ve met and had the pleasuring of knowing so many lovely people over the past few months. If anyone has any questions moving forward, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Here’s your weekly reminder that what you see on social media is not always true.

I saw this quote the other day and kind of chuckled to myself. I feel like I see or hear some version of this in every conversation about social media and yet, here we are, reading this and being comforted by the fact that we don’t know what other people have and are going through.

Quotes like this remind us that not many people show the mistakes, failures and struggles that come with being a small business owner… then add the struggles of being a human being to it, the feeling is so much fun to experience 🤪

Feeling the peer-pressure from seeing others accomplishments, constantly checking in on competors and comparing yourself to them… it’s a lot. Sometimes the feeling of ‘not doing enough’ or ‘not growing fast enough’ can creep in and take over the emotions in your mind.

So, if reading this can for one split second remind you that we are ALL or at least have been in a position where we’ve felt the exact feeling that you are right now, so be it. No one is completely alone in their journey and if I can share a simple quote that can maybe reach the right person, I will.

Something new just landed! Introducing , the brand that's truly redefining the term boss babe 🎉

When Tanya was planning her wedding, she realized the basics needed for a wedding are so highly priced all because they're for one specific event. As Tanya herself is a creative, she set out to make her own stationery, signs and other crafts! From there, her hobby turned into a small business that originally catered to other brides, with hopes to save them money and stress while planning.

When reading about Tanya and her small business, she says something that really stood out and resonated with me. She explains that over the years, her brand becaome one that supports marginalized communities and women empowerment with focus on making art affordable and accessible. Meet Catherine, the artist, owner and designer at Prickly Cactus Collage- a proudly q***r/bisexual-owned small business based out of Toronto! With a focus on activist and feminist pins, buttons and badges, Catherine creates small, stylish and fun ways to show your individuality and personality. These pins, buttons and badges let you share a bit of what matters to you, to the world, and that’s one of the many reasons why I was so excited to bring the pin-back buttons to my selection at the bakery!

We’re half way through October…. what?!

Okay everyone, it’s been blatantly obvious that I’ve been absent on my socials again… surprise surprise 🤣

I saw this quote and honestly, it was something I needed to see. I’ve been so hard on myself for not being active on my accounts but I keep asking myself, why?! I’ve been so dang busy- not only am I busy with clients and work, but I’ve been harbouring up a few little surprises which I’m so excited to announce! Everything takes time, including being a functioning human, and I have to constantly remind myself of that. It’s not all about what’s being posted to the internet, it’s about the steps and success that is had behind the scenes of it all.

I’m not going to promise that I’ll be super active again on here but I’ve started making and creating a few posts for myself again now that I finally have some time. It feels so good to finally be able to focus on my business again and bringing some well-deserved attention to it all. So, with that all said, keep you eye out for some exciting news!

The Fabled Creative Co. is an independent design studio based in Toronto, with a focus on Illustration & Graphic Design. Indy and Ron founded their business in 2015, with the goal to create images that are dynamic, eye catching and tell imaginative stories. One thing that made me want to bring their products into the shop is their style! Fabled Creative uses a blended aesthetic of 20th Century illustration with bold graphic design- something that isn’t seen all that much up here in lil’ ol’ Orillia!

Have you caught yourself saying this?

Over the next few weeks you’ll be seeing some posts from me about shifting your mindset. When stepping into my own journey along with growing and learning so much about the human I am, I’ve found that in the past, my mindset was something that had really held me back.

As we all know by now, my small business is SO much more than just a digital creation agency; it’s also about truly getting to know about one another while building the confidence to be your true, authentic self. When you find confidence in your passion, it’s so hard to not want to turn it into your career but, society today can make that dream feel so far from reality (psssttt, it’s really not).

These simple shifts in tone can make such a huge difference in your daily life- well, at least they did for me. I’m happy to be able to share these with you and hopefully make a difference in the way you talk to yourself too. We all deserve to be nicer to ourselves, why not start today?!

I won’t lie, the thought of a job with full-time hours, getting paid bi-weekly without having to chase down invoice payments, having healthcare benefits…. that sounds nice.

Then I remember why I started The Trove Lifestyle Company. I remember the people I’ve met over the years who started as clients, then turned into friends and some of my biggest supporters. I remember the words of gratitude that have been said when a client is so happy about the dream I’ve helped bring to life. I remember the contant messages in my inbox, asking if I’m taking on new clients yet… making me realize how my work is being seen by others…

I’d be lying to you if I said I hadn’t thought about going back to a job where someone else is my boss. It would be so much easier to have someone else do all the heavy lifting and for me to be able to clock in, clock out then forget about work but, that’s not the person I am.

I so desperately need that creative outlet, and this is one that I’m good at. Whenever I have a moment of “what the f*** did I get myself into?!”, I’m happy to know that I have proof to look back on and show myself why exactly I started. Afterall, we’re all just winging it in this thing called life, right?! So, why not be happy and free while doing it.

Established in 2018, Heather founded a unique paper and novelty shop with the goal to see more diverse and expansive options for all kinds of people to show love, affection, friendship and joy for each other. The cards that Heather creates are truly for everyone, but Little Rainbow Paper Co focuses on q***r and quirky, LGBTQ cards and prints that help us celebrate our lives & relationships in meaningful ways. Heather began as a small business that recognized that there are SO many unexplored possibilities to celebrate and acknowledge all of our unique identities, and ways of being. In everything done at Little Rainbow Paper Co, the team wants to reflect, affirm and celebrate, all of the ways we humans know how to live, love, and be.

Eeeeeeeek…. still can’t believe this is happening 😍 I’ve been on the fence about getting a thermal printer for way too long… Did I need one? One week ago, I set up my display at @CocosCookiesOrillia 💕It took probably a little bit too long and some encouragement from Kendel and Tyson but, we got there 😅I’m so grateful for this opportunity and this lovely group of humans I get to call my work fam. It made my heart smile so big whenever someone would walk up to the display and say “hey, is this you?!” From Tuesday-Friday I had a total of 50 Trove merchandise sales-what?! So, I thought I’d show you a bit of what my Sundays typically look like! On Sundays, I try to take things a bit slower- it just doesn’t feel right to rush that day! Every morning starts with giving Stanley his morning snack 😍 Then I get to showering myself then our garden, and just like that, it’s time to get my workday started. Sometimes, I even get to take the dog-in-laws for a walk and admire the beauty of Washago in the summer ☀️ I try to complete as much of my content for Northern Birch as I can on Saturdays when I’m there to work my in-person shift but, there’s only so much that can get done in one day. I’ve found a groove of going into the shop on Sundays for a couple of hours to take my flat lays and finish up any last details that I wasn’t able to get to. It also gives me a reason to get outside and bum around town if I want to! I’ll normally get home, feed Stan, edit alllllll the content I’ve created for the week and get it scheduled in to be posted! Every single workday looks so different; especially when you’re in this industry! I was sitting on the couch last night, finishing up the last season of Selling Sunset while scheduling all of my nbb reels for the week… and all I could think of was a younger version of myself looking at where I am today. I’m going to make a conscious effort to start trying to do “vlog” style videos to share with you all. I think they’ll be fun and a great way for you all to get some insight into my day-to-day and the projects I’ve been working on. 📸 This chapter feels really good... The Trove Lifestyle Co. embodies and represents all of the special projects and powerful people I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside. When I decided to rebrand and get real photos done (yes real... our standards are a bit higher than lens buddy and a tripod 😅), I knew I wanted to carry my business beliefs into the photographer I chose. Being a social media manager, content creator, retail worker, and everything in between, I wanted to find someone who would be able to capture the one similarity between all of my roles. That similarity being me and my approach! Without any question, I knew Lily was the human to do so. I'd never spoken a word to Lily, just admired her and her work for SO long. I wanted to send her a quick low-down on what I was looking for and if she was comfortable being the person behind the camera in this setting. She automatically made me feel so much love and support in my journey. From the initial email regarding the possibility of a branding shoot to the hand off of the final gallery, Lily made my experience one to remember. As soon as we met for our photoshoot, it was nothing but positive, kind and meaningful conversation. I've truly never met someone so genuine, creative, excited and passionate about their work. I'm so happy that I was able to watch, experience and be the subject for a powerful woman doing the thing she loves. I'm so grateful that Lily was the human that I got to experience these everlasting moments with. Anyways, this was a very long caption about why the smile on my face in these photos is so dang big. I'm making so many changes and couldn't be more confident that I'm exactly where I need to be. My experience with Lily and these pictures are purely just confirmation that this is all coming together exactly as it should be. ♥️

Everyone, meet Stanley! My personal little Easter bunny who wanted me to wish you all a hoppy Easter, every bunny!! 🐰 Stanley is my little fluff monster who never fails to bring a smile to anyone’s face. He’s turning 3 next month but is a Netherland Dwarf rabbit, who also happened to be the runt of his litter… so that means he’s extra spoiled since he still looks like a baby 😉 Stanley is my personal assistant and has sat by my side through the entirety of my small business journey. Whether I was working on the couch, my desk, or the kitchen table, Stanley was always right by my side, keeping a careful watch to make sure his human wasn’t spending too much time working and took some breaks to get some cuddles in. The animal professionals say that animals can sense our emotions and Stan has never failed to prove that testament wrong. If you ever get to love a bunny, you’re in for so many years of love and entertainment as these little guys have the greatest personalities. 🥰 Anyways, back to normal programming! I just had to take a moment to highlight my best boy on his special holiday 💐

🛌 Sunday. Sundays in the "be your own boss" world means many things. It's a day to sleep in for some, a day to keep the grind going for others and so much more. For me, Sundays are the days I normally don't have to leave the house. Sundays are days to plan, catch up or put final touches on any projects I'm currently working on, then it's rest and reset for the week ahead. How do you spend your Sundays?
