Residents in part of L’Orignal will not have municipal water service for part of the day on Thursday and Friday.
As part of Champlain Township’s King Street Reconstruction Project, Cornwall Gravel will be shutting down the watermain affecting Bay Road, Franche Street, and Des Chalets Street on Thursday, August 10, and Friday, August 11, starting at 8 a.m. and extending until 4 p.m. at the latest. This is to complete some underground work and connections for the King Street Project. In both cases, “Precautionary Boil Advisories” are recommended. A slowdown for campers and cottages returning home this holiday weekend.
Traffic is moving slowly this afternoon at the CN railroad crossing on Highway 34 between Vankleek Hill and Hawkesbury. The signals are flashing and bell ringing, but no train is crossing. An OPP officer is posted at the crossing and traffic occasionally moves slowly through. Be prepared for delays or find an alternate route.

Sharing a link to one of the stories for our August 9 edition -- and: wondering what you think about local heritage?

Please read before you comment -- is a LIST of local heritage properties, events, farms and barns worth doing?

Do you think heritage buildings have any value in terms of tourism or economic development?

A reminder: Facebook will be preventing us from sharing links to news stories by the end of August -- so enjoy skimming some of our stories while you can -- and know that ALL Canadian media are affected by this move -- which also means that YOU will not be able to shared news stories from accredited media on Facebook.

If you think local, independent journalism is important, you can subscribe or donate to media that you want to support -- for as little as $1.05 per week to receive our weekly e-paper, our jumbo print editions twice each month (August 9 we will have 40 pages for you) and full access to our website) and to stay connected to local communities, events and news close to home and down the road from you!

Known at 'the convent', this building was demolished in 2017; an addition at the rear of the building had been demolished earlier, when a plan to create a spa met with complications. The tower portion was salvaged and will form part of a makeover of St. Andrew's Church on King Street in L'Orignal. S...

Art in the Garden takes place in Vankleek Hill on August 12, 2023! The event has doubled in size since the the first edition took place last year.

A reminder: Soon, Facebook and Google will not allow Canadian news organizations to share links to news stories -- this is expected to affect all Canadian media by the end of this month.
You won't be able to share news links on Facebook, either!

Facebook is not everything! We continue to load our stories into our website and we prepare a weekly e-paper and print edition twice per month -- all for $1.05 per week.

We have never shared the links to ALL of our stories here -- we are truly busy writing news stories, taking photos, listening and responding to your questions, supporting community events and sometimes, organizing community events.

In the meantime, Facebook and Google are making billions in advertising dollars. Thanks (not) for helping Canadians stay informed and for supporting local communities.

Art in the Garden has doubled in size from last year, with more than 56 artists and artisans attending the August 12 event, being organized by St. John's Anglican Church in Vankleek Hill. Once again, tents will line each side of the road leading up to St. John's Anglican Church but this year, artist...
