In today's Seventeen Second Spark we chime in with some helpful tips to keep your Shopify Store looking fresh and running like a top.
Review your shipping - Shipping costs always seem to increase. Don't get caught loosing money on shipping. Review your rates and set them accordingly.
Check your abandon carts - are their too many? Why? Is it your shipping rates? If so, pad your product pricing and offer FREE SHIPPING on everything. Win that cart!
Add NEW content. Hey, we're all guilty of letting the home page slide once in a while. Freshen up that site with new images, content and videos. Give Google Spiders a reason to come and index your site.
Along with the tips mentioned in the video, you can request any new pages to be indexed immediately so you're not waiting to get your new content out in the world. Use this link to index your pages - https://search.google.com/search-console?action=inspect

In today's Seventeen Second Spark we are going to show you how to customize your tax override settings in Shopify. British Columbia recently updated / increased their tax settings on liquor sales. We received about 35 frantic calls or emails requesting help to adjust / update the tax settings without screwing up all of the other tax settings. Below is how you do it in under 10 steps.
To create a tax override in Shopify, you can follow these steps:
1. Log in to your Shopify admin account.
2. Click on the "Settings" tab in the bottom left corner of the screen.
3. From the Settings menu, select "Taxes and Duty".
4. Select the Country / Region for which you want to create the tax override.
5. Scroll down to the "Tax overrides" section and click "Add product override".
6. Select the province or state for which you want to create the tax override.
7. Enter the name of the product or collection for which you want to create the tax override. If it's a large amount of products, make a manual collection first then select that.
8. Enter the tax rate that you want to apply to the product or collection.
9. Save your changes.
Once you have created the tax override, the tax rate you specified will be applied to the selected product or collection instead of the default tax rate for the location. Note that you will need to create a separate tax override for each product or collection that you want to apply a different tax rate to.
I hope this help understand Tax Overrides, how powerful they can be and how useful they are. If you have any questions, or if you'd like to sign up for a monthly maintenance plan where we manage this sort of stuff for you, please don't hesitate to call us at 604 655-5592 OR pick a plan here:

In today's Seventeen Second Spark we are going to help increase the conversions on your Shopify website. The easiest way to increase conversions is to make your website as visually attractive as possible the second a customer visits. Use a visually appealing color scheme, high-quality images and videos, and a clean and organized layout. Take the customer on a journey down the page that opens up more imagery and info, just like a luxury hotel foyer.
Use big, beautiful images that showcase your products or services well. Make the writing easy to read and understand and mention the benefits over the features.
There are several more ways to make a website as appealing as possible:
1. Make it easy to navigate: Ensure your website has a clear and organized navigation menu, and make sure it's easy to find the information visitors are looking for.
2. Optimize for speed: A slow website can be frustrating for users. Optimize your website's loading speed by compressing images and using a fast web host.
3. Use clear and concise copy: Make sure your copy is easy to read and understand, and avoid using jargon or complex language.
4. Make it mobile-responsive: With more and more people using mobile devices to browse the web, it's important that your website is optimized for mobile screens.
5. Use social proof: Highlight customer reviews and testimonials to build trust with your visitors.
6. Keep it up to date: Make sure your website is regularly updated with fresh content, and fix any broken links or outdated information.
Overall, the key is to create a website that is user-friendly, visually appealing, and informative. By following these tips, you can make sure your website is as appealing as possible to your visitors.

In today's Seventeen Second Spark we are going to be talking about Shopify Markets. This is a relatively new section, in the admin settings, in Shopify and some of you might be caught off guard and have had your international shipping disabled because you haven't set up these settings yet.
Shopify Markets is a cross-border management tool that helps you identify, set up, launch, optimize and manage your international markets. To sell to different "markets", or global regions, you need to specify where (what countries) you want to sell your products.
Setting up Markets is easy. In your admin settings (bottom left hand corner) just click on settings, then up to Markets. There you would activate (enable) the global zone/region/country you want your store to be able to ship to.
If you need assistance in setting your Market's correctly, don't hesitate to reach out to us for help.

In today's Seventeen Second Spark we wanted to remind everyone that the key to running any business, no matter how big, is Delegation.
Delegate: /ˈdeləˌɡāt/
Entrust (a task or responsibility) to another person.
It's the end of Summer, the kiddies are heading back to school (which increases your home like work load), and Black Friday is just around the corner. Face it, you are busy or you're just about to get busier. This post-pandemic world we live in is tough and it is VITAL that you grow, or keep growing, your company.
The only way to do this is to delegate all of the day-to-day tasks, on your Shopify website, to a Shopify professional...like us. Look no further than our Subscription based, Dedicated Shopify Expert Monthly Maintenance Plans. Yes, you read that right. You can subscribe to a monthly plan to speak directly to your Dedicated Shopify Expert any time* you have a question. We offer Standard and Custom Monthly website maintenance plans that take the burden of the tedious task, no matter how big or small, off of your plate so you can focus on running your business. The benefits of delegating tasks is that it frees up your time to do want you want to do, not NEED to do.
Here is an example of the tasks we can manage for you:
~Daily, weekly, or monthly home page / site image updates
SEO management
~Daily, weekly, or monthly product creation
~Promotion scheduling complete with email blast design and deployment
~Daily, weekly, or monthly Inventory management using Shopify's native ~Inventory system or something robust like KATANA MRP Inventory Software (We are Certified IMPLEMENTATION and INTEGRATION PARTNERS)
~Website Product and Collection management with Navigation integration

Looks like we're heading into a recession but don't worry I'm here to get you set up to weather the storm. Here are 5 things you need to focus on NOW to make it to 2024 in a better position.
1. Double down on your website as a content hub. If you sell any type of product or service, make your site, and brand, the ultimate authority for that product/service and post as much content and info for that product. Make your website the best place any one will go for info on that product/service.
2. Focus on spreading the LOVE. Be kind to EVERYONE and anyone who comes to your website, buys your products or uses your services. EVERYONE. Over-delivery so people understand the Value you bring.
3. Pivot to Livestream Shopping. Start promoting your products during LIVE productions on Facebook LIVE, Instagram, Amazon LIVE and TaoBoa. This works extremely well if you use a well know Brand Ambassador or Influencer so people connect to the brand.
4. Get your products on Amazon to capitalize on Alexa's Voice Commerce. This is already becoming a game-changer because 80% of all items ever sold online route through Amazon.
5. TikTok is not just for kids posting funny videos. 37% of TikTok users were adults with a disposable income of more than $100,000 a year. 80% of TikTok users state that they discover new brands and products on the platform. Use that to your advantage and start an account today!
For those of you needing help, we offer monthly maintenance plans to help with all the tedious tasks of running a business. There is more value in using our services over hiring another employee. I encourage to lean on us for guidance.

In today's Seventeen Second Spark I dedicate more time to answering some misconceptions users have with using Shopify in 2022. We had a survey on our website in the last 3 months of 2021 asking people what they find good, bad, frustrating, amazing, etc. We break down the top 5 misconceptions here.
1. Configuring Shipping is Too Hard on Shopify
Shopify Shipping has come a long what from the beginning and users are able to create more customized shipping profiles per product shipping to specific countries, states and provinces. We have extensive understanding of Shopify's shipping, so if you need help, or advice, please reach out to us ASAP.
2. Using the FREE Theme DAWN Lacks Shazam
As with any FREE theme in Shopify, there are limitations on it's customizability and functionality. Having said that, the new and updated coding in DAWN is second to none and, with a little tweaking, that theme can make your brand look amazing.
3. Just Creating A Site Equals Sales
This is NOT true on any platform. With any business, or anything you want to succeed at, it is imperative that you put some effort into growing and nurturing your business.
4. You Have to Add A Lot of APPs To Make The Shopify Store Work Properly
This couldn't be farther from the truth. Depending on your level of plan items are unlocked like Dynamic Reporting and Carrier Calculated Rate for shipping. There is many items within Shopify that are there, no need to add an app to do something that is already there.
5. Not Starting A Shopify Store Because You Are Scared
This one gets us every time. 2022 is your year to shine! Who cares what people will think about your customized cat collar business. Ignore the cynics when they turn their nose up at your boushy but decadent candle company. Get out and start the business you've always wanted.

The Best Items To Sell On Shopify in 2022
In today's Seventeen Second Spark we provide ideas on the Best items to sell on Shopify in 2022.
Stay in your lane! We suggest you "Go with what you Know" and focus/sell products you like and love. I love cycling products so I started a triathlon specific website. If you love ladies handbags, start a Shopify website that sells handbags and not a website that sells DJ equipment. Make sense?
Speaking of Drop Shipping, those website has seen a lot of attention lately. It's a "hands-off" way of creating a business. A small percentage of drop ship websites do well and the others struggle to generate interest, traffic or any viable revenue stream. That is tough because there are 20,000 + other websites selling the exact same things as your store. Then there is the issues happening in late 2021 and into 2022 with supply chains and shipping. If it takes over 5 days to deliver one of your products, find different products. No one waits that long for delivery anymore. Make sure your products are sourced from your home country to lower the ship times and keep customers happy.
Consider starting your own Marketplace! Add an app to your store that allows local artisans to upload and manage their own products on YOUR store. They do the work and you collect a small commission for their sales. We recently designed and developed a Canadian based home goods store that does this - Handmade Home Co.
To succeed in business in 2022, on Shopify, it is critical to separate yourself from the noise of other stores and chart your own path. Having total control of every aspect of your business will keep costs down and customers happy.
Just so you know, we are offering monthly Shopify maintenance plans now and the response had been overwhelming. Starting at just $65 a MONTH, you would have a dedicated Shopify expert to answer question, get advice, or even manage the entire day to day operation, if needed. Our plans save you time and money. Explo

5 Critical Task to do to your Shopify Website Before BFCM 2021
It's coming, are you ready? This year, BFCM takes place over November 26-29, 2021 and you NEED to be ready. Depending on when you're reading this post, you have time to get your website, and your entire business, in Ship-Shape. Here are 5 critical task to do to your Shopify website before BFCM 2021.
1. If you haven't already done so, update your theme to Shopify 2.0. This will make your site run leaner and load faster. Check with your theme creator to see if they issued an update.
2. Make sure your website functions perfectly on MOBILE. You should always be thinking about a "Mobile First" strategy. Don't give shoppers a reason to leave on mobile.
3. Assess your Checkout Experience. Make sure it runs perfectly. This is good time to review your shipping settings and strategy too. Your store’s success depends on sales numbers, not on how many people visit your store.
4. Make sure you provide outstanding customer support. Adding a chat bot or having a dedicated rep monitoring questions and queries could be the difference in converting a sale.
Have Ketchum, Killum & Wynn Creative Inc. review your website. We have a fantastic website audit report that will help you isolate why your website could not be living up to its potential.
Learn more about a website review here: https://ketchumkillumandwynncreative.com/collections/personalized-shopify-training-programs/products/shopify-website-audit-and-review
If you need help completing any or all of the 5 tasks above, we are here to help. Just reach out to us by calling 604 655-5592 or [email protected].

How to sell more products on your Shopify website.
How to sell more Products on your Shopify website!
Today's Seventeen Second Spark is going to teach you how to sell more products on Shopify in less than one minute. A lot of you did a great job optimizing your SEO and your website to get organic visitors - Great Job! Now that you have them on your website and on your Product Page, you have to make it abundantly clear "WHY" they should purchase your products.
How do you do that you say? Simple. Focus on selling the "Benefits" versus the "Features".
Features are aspects of your product, which could be technical or descriptive. Benefits are why that feature matters for your customers. In other words, how that feature makes their life better.
Features tell customers what, and benefits tell customers why. The features tell the customer something noteworthy about the product, and the benefits explain how the customer’s life gets better because of it.
Focus on selling the Benefits over the Features and you will sell more products on your Shopify website. If you need help updating your product description copy to focus on the benefits over the features, let us know, we can help! Contact us today!

Hey gang, today's seventeen second spark is a mid-summer Shopify website check-in. Think of this as your half-time call. Time to head back to the locker room, take a status of how your website/business is doing and make modifications so you crush the second half of 2021.
Now's a great time to review your processes, suppliers, staff (if you have any) to make sure everything is ready for the big sales in the second half like Black Friday 2021 and of course the Holidays.
Remember, just like with anything in life, you need to nurture your website and business so it grows. I use my wife's Sourdough Starter as a great analogy. If you leave it too long, it begins to die. Don't let that happen to your website and your business.
Here are 3 things you need to review and update today:
1. It's time to review your shipping settings and your abandon carts. Are people leaving because of your shipping rates or times? Do you know how to tell? Contact us today for a free review on your shipping settings.
2. This is a fantastic time to update the copy and content on your home page, product pages and everywhere else for that matter. Just tweak the copy, no need to rewrite everything. Just enough for it to look different in the eyes of Google Spiders so they read your site and content again. Don't forget to add your business name / site name to your Alt tags. If you don't know how to do this, we can help, just reach out to us today to get started.
3. Time to remind your past and future customers that you have amazing products and they all need to come back and buy some! Send them a discount code specific to the email blast. Slap another discount code all over your social media so you can track where your sales came from.
See, with just a little bit of focus, you too can crush the second half and make 2021 a record breaking year for your Shopify website.
If any one of you need help with any aspect of your Shopify website, please let us know. We can help with your Shopify Shippin
Update Shopify Mobile Viewport Meta Code for a Smoother Running Website
In today's Seventeen Second Spark we're talking about updating some of the outdated Shopify theme liquid code, more specifically, the Viewport meta Content code. Without a viewport meta tag, mobile devices render pages at typical desktop screen widths and then scale the pages down, making them difficult to read. Setting the viewport meta tag, with updated code, lets you control the width and scaling of the viewport so that it's sized correctly on all devices.
Typically, in older websites and theme, the viewport meta code (found in your Theme.Liquid page) looks like this:
meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1"
The content above is a little outdated (based on Google's newest protocols), so we suggest you swap out that code with this code:
meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"
Updating this code will keep your website mobile experience running smoothly for your valued visitors. Don't give your potential customers a reason to leave. Not having a seamless mobile experience is detrimental to your conversions.
Keep your site code fresh, have fun, and if you need help, don't hesitate to reach out to us for help.

Today's Seventeen Second Spark focusses on the 3 biggest items to update, on your Shopify Website, for the Second Half of 2021. I've been talking a lot about increasing traffic that converts on your Shopify Website. These 3 points will help spark the initiative to crush the rest of 2021.
1. Start creating content at scale. I can't stress this enough. With the recent changes with email, it's harder to reach the inboxes of your subscribers. So, start creating content to lure them to your website. Customers searching for and finding your content are more likely to purchase when you get them to your website.
2. It's time to update your homepage! No one likes a website that looks the same season after season, especially Google Spiders. Keep the content on your homepage fresh by adding new imagery, copy and sections to show that you care about your business and value keeping it new looking.
3. Keep on top of your SEO. Now that you updated the images on your homepage, don't forget to ALT Tag those images for when Google stops by to crawl your website.
Tripling down on these 3 items will kick start an amazing second half of 2021 and increase sales / conversions, which we can all agree is why you love doing what you're doing.

Two New Ways To Increase Conversions on Shopify in 2021
Today's Seventeen Second Spark focusses on increasing traffic that converts on your Shopify Website. We all know that getting the right kind of traffic to your website can be tough. These two NEW proven strategies will help you get the best kind of traffic to your website, the traffic that is genuinely looking for your products to buy.
1. Double down on Long-tail Keyword SEO. it's mid 2021 and you should know by now that Long-tail keyword, or phrases, are more specific – and usually longer – than more commonly used keywords. Long-tail keywords get less search traffic, but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific. They allow you to gradually get more traffic to your site and be found by new and motivated audiences. A long-tail keyword strategy can really help you out when there’s a lot of competition in your market. Most businesses will benefit from this strategy as it helps you attract visitors with a very specific search intent.
2. Repurposing content to ALL of your social media channels, not just one. If you create a daily podcast or create cooking demonstrations for your recipes, splice and dice all of those up and spread them out on your TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, Youtube, AND your Blog. Drive viewers back to your website with a strong call to action for increased conversion tactics.
Use these two NEW strategies to increase the right kind of traffic to your Shopify website. If you need more help in this department, our highly effective staff of content marketers here at Ketchum, Killum & Wynn Creative Inc can and will provide guidance or do it for you. Contact us at [email protected] today.
