NEXT WEEK ON QUEERFM we bring you q***r takes on comedy and writing, starting with…

TRACY HAMILTON (she/her) is a stand-up comedian based in Toronto. Her conversational style and cheerful sarcasm will make you feel as comfortable as she feels in her many cardigans. She has performed in SF Sketchfest, All Jane Comedy Festival, Motor City Comedy Festival, and filmed a nationally televised gala for The Winnipeg Comedy Festival.

She has also been featured on The Debaters and Laugh Out Loud on CBC Radio, has been published on CBC Comedy, and has opened for headlining acts such as Josh Gondelman, and Chris Gethard, among others.

Her debut album, “Human Person,” hit all streaming platforms in June and reflects Hamilton’s feeling of sometimes being an alien in a person suit and her fascination with human flaws and quirks. These themes are central to her comedic style, which she describes as “personal storytelling.” You can find her on Insta and TikTok at

NEXT WEEK ON QUEERFM we offer up a great book for that summer reading you have been meaning to catch up on! We sit down for a talk with poet…

COURTNEY BATES-HARDY (she/her) is a poet and the author of Anatomical Venus, House of Mystery, and a chapbook, Sea Foam. Her poems have appeared in Event, Vallum, and PRISM, among others and have been featured in Best Canadian Poetry 2021 and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She is q***r and disabled, and one-third of a writing group called The Pain Poets.

Her latest release is called ANATOMICAL VENUS and is a visceral collection of poems that invoke anatomical models, feminine monsters, and little-known historical figures. It’s a journey through car accidents and physio appointments, 18th century morgues and modern funeral homes.

Grappling with the cyclical nature of chronic pain, these poems ask how to live with and love the self in pain. Magic seeps through, in the form of fairy tales, in the stories of powerful monsters, in the introspection of the tarot, and the transcendence of q***r love.

THIS WEEK IN QUEERSTORY comes to us via Italy and ***rhistoryarchive …

Eleonora Duse (1858-1924) was an Italian actress who is also partly known for her heated love affairs with both men and women.

Duse was born in the carriage of a train near Vigevano to parents Angelita and Alessandro who both belonged to a travelling troupe of actors. Her first performance was aged four in a play based on Les Miserables. Her career took off after her appearance in Emile Zola’s Therese Raquin. In 1879 she met the journalist Martini Cafiero. Less than a year later he left her while she was mid way through pregnancy. The baby did not survive birth. Shortly after she met Tebaldo Checchi before leaving him for another actor Flavio Ando.

Duse continued to have a series of temptuous love affairs with men and also women. Later in life she began a relstionship with Italian feminist Lina Poletti. They lived in a house in Florence for two years where Poletti worked on plays for her. They had a stormy relayionship which eventually resulted in them breaking up in Venice. She then stayed with the acclaimed dancer and choreographer Isadora Duncan in Viareggio.

She died of pneumonia in 1924 during a tour of the United States, aged 64. The Teatro Duse theatre in Bologna is named after her.

NEXT WEEK ON QUEERFM we kick off July with fresh jams and amazing guests including this band’s journey of heartbreak to a heartwarming tribute…

MATTE NAMER (she/they) and FRANKIE REX (they/them) began The FMs in NYC in 2016. The FMs created a community around their illegal shows on a ferry boat in Bushwick where they also recorded three full-length albums, including their debut LP “Machinacene Epoch.”

Production on their sophomore double-EP “PINK + BLACK” was tragically cut short by Frankie Rex’s death in 2022. Matte Namer reformed The FMs and released “PINK + BLACK” posthumously in May of 2024 at the first-ever FrankieFest, a tribute to Frankie Rex. On the even of the 55th anniversary of the Uprising, this week in QUEERSTORY takes a look back at other uprisings from 2SLGBTQIA+ history via

Have a read and check out their page. Read the full piece at the link in their bio!

“We’re supposed to look back at the Stonewall Riots during Pride month because it was one of the most high-profile moments that helped galvanize the gay rights and LGBTQ rights movement in the U.S. At the same time, what happened that night has become so sanitized and anesthetized in the public eye that it’s also become the extent of many people’s ‘radical’ q***r education. People often forget there have always been q***r and trans people from every corner of this country fighting to unmake the hell we’re living in and that, like Stonewall, their tactics went far beyond calling their Congresspeople and having a giant party sponsored by Bank of America and regulated by the municipal police. That moral obligation to fight until we win has been part of the q***r and trans liberation movement for longer than many of our grandparents have been alive.”

Autostraddle team writer Stef Rubino () takes us through a timeline of 6 pre-Stonewall q***r uprisings and encourages us to take note from those who came before us.”

The Alberta-born Canadian Idol-winner has undergone a career evolution in the years since he first gained national recognition as an artist, sharing a profound and vulnerable journey in his music through sobriety, heartbreak, and finding new love.

We at Q***rFM Van are celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day next week with our extended indigi-q***r community as we showcase two incredible, passionate artists making a difference, sharing their respective talents and educating people everywhere, like the voice of this two-spirit rainbow warrior…

Christa Couture (she/her) is a musician, writer, filmmaker, broadcaster and amputee, and is the host of Postcards from...an accessible doc series which recently launched on AMI.

Prairie raised, Christa is a musician, writer and amputee, who is proudly Indigenous (mixed Cree and Scandinavian), q***r and disabled.

Over the course of her acclaimed career, Couture’s work has mostly explored personal experiences of loss, from the childhood cancer that led to the amputation of her left leg to the deaths of her two infant sons. Her memoir How to Lose Everything was the inspiration for a series of short-animated films of the same name, but after maternity photos that showcased her prosthetic leg went viral in 2018, Couture has been drawn to sharing stories that intersect with disability.

Couture spent 17 years in Vancouver and now calls Toronto home. Postcards From airs on AMI-tv and AMI+ with new episodes weekly. The series is a travel show centred on accessibility from Vancouver’s Black Rhino Creative. Check out Christa and the show on Insta at
