My very first (and so far, only) experience of a total solar eclipse was in Salem, Oregon in 2017. It was, to put it lightly, the closest thing to a purely spiritual experience I have ever had. That moment of totality, the mere seconds when the entire sky goes dark, feels like a plug has been pulled out of the heavens and the universe is swirling down the drain. It's beautiful and horrifying and humbling all at once...

As someone who loves drawing a or two, it should come as no surprise to learn that my dream job would be to design a real life spacecraft. This is my Holy Grail. My El Dorado.

And thanks to I got to do JUST THAT a couple years back, creating concepts and key art of a prototype satellite for an Australian space startup.

Seriously, nothing could top this. Learned so much and I’m very proud of the result. You should check out the link in my bio to see more illustrations of the and peek at the design process that went in to them.

King Warrior has been shortlisted for the Alberta Book Publishing Awards in three categories:
- Graphic Novel of the Year
- Children’s & YA Book of the Year
- Book Illustration

Huge ‘Thank You!’ from me and authors and to our publisher for championing our title.

We’ll find out the winners in September, so for now the only thing to ask is: ‘is it physically possible to keep my fingers crossed for the next three months? I guess we’ll see 🤞

Also me: The story will make no sense unless every detail of this scene is rendered with cinematic fidelity! . Timelapse of the latest page of @constantstarcomic Each weekly page starts with storybreaking sessions with writer @raverstevezodiac where we talk through the story while I sketch out scenes. It’s a fun process that feels a lot like a table read, with Steve narrating and me ‘acting’ out the scene through doodles. I think it also lends itself to a very natural, flowy layout, because we’re building the pages in real-time, experiencing the story the same way the reader would. I’ve been trying to maintain that kind of spontaneous energy through the rest of the process, but I keep getting obsessed with little continuity details that no one else would care about!
