Sam George JR from the Tsleil-Waututh nation is an honored member who conducts the “Blanket Exercise”. This activity uncovers harsh realities - facts that have been omitted from Canada's historical narrative. In this exercise, blankets spread on the ground symbolize the original territories of the First Nations before the arrival of colonizers. As participants progress through the historical timeline, they experience the shifting dynamics between the First Nations, the colonizers and Canada. Shockingly, a large population aged over 25 is oblivious to the true historical backdrop of their nation as these aspects have only recently begun to surface publicly. The exercise is a way to acquaint them with this forgotten history.
The visual representation of history through the use of blankets becomes quite effective as the blankets diminish in size or vanish completely as historical events unfold. The space gradually shrinks, particularly with the introduction of the Indian Act, until there's barely enough room left to stand on the remaining blankets

Vancity chapter had a couple successful events the last 2 wks.

Last week, we did a jacket and boot drive, this past wedsnday our October “Feed The People” was amazing, home-made chili, bear soup, bun & spirit bear coffee.

We also gave out the jackets, boots and back packs with school supplies and everything got cleaned out.

Hands up to all the volunteers who came out to both events and people who contributed to the drive
