We are excited to share our final team highlight series! ✨

We asked them: What is a memorable highlight while being on the TELUS originals team?

1️⃣ Christina Willings, Senior Production Executive
💬 The moment I was hired and told “Ok. Now go find filmmakers. See what this program can be.” I did go, flat out, and filmmakers reached back. I am very proud of all of us, and the team that has made the TELUS originals program fly.

2️⃣ Alex Moase, Senior Product Manager
💬 Over the past decade with TELUS originals, I’m most proud of the diverse, impactful stories we’ve brought to light. From heartwarming community initiatives to groundbreaking innovations, each film has created lasting change. Our storytelling has connected people, elevated Canadian talent, and sparked meaningful conversations across the country. It’s not just about the films we’ve created, but the lives we’ve touched and the positive ripples that spread. Here’s to 10 years of powerful storytelling!

3️⃣ Ana Foger, Senior Financial Analyst
💬 I’m incredibly proud for being part of TELUS originals team. Their dedication to expanding our community outreach has been remarkable, connecting us with diverse voices we hadn’t reached before. While my work remains behind the scenes, it’s deeply fulfilling to see how our collective efforts have culminated in such a meaningful project. This success reflects the strength of our teamwork and shared vision. It is truly inspiring, and I’m honored to support their incredible work.

4️⃣ Alice Ko, Marketing Specialist
One of the highlights was watching a screening of “Slides on the Mountain”, presented by TELUS originals at TELUS Gardens. I’ve never seen such a touching, inspiring, and intimate film that followed everyday people, with stories shared that came straight from the individuals featured in the films themselves. I’m proud to be a part of a team where everyone is supportive and collaborative. Each person brings a passion for helping local filmmakers bring their stories to life on screen, and it’s amazing to be part of that.

Wrapping up our series, we are thrilled to spotlight, Ben Cox!

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Ben Cox, Director of “The Interceptors” and Cinematography on “Slides on the Mountain”, “Delta Dawn”, “Mareya Shot, Keetha Goal: Take the Shot”, “The Interceptors”, and “Curl Power.”

💬 “I think the most memorable moment from working with the TELUS team was our Vancouver Premiere for The Interceptors. TELUS supported the screening where we brought together members of the public and members of Vancouver’s food justice community. That evening we shared the film, a wonderful panel discussion from Vancouver food activists and of course delicious rescued food was prepared by our lead contributor TJ Conwi. The event was a roaring success and we really felt supported by TELUS. Several members of the TELUS originals team came out and the whole evening really felt like a wonderful celebration of the work being done in our city to further food justice.”

📽️ “The Interceptors” documents a diverse group of inspiring individuals, who are rising up to support food security in British Columbia. The first of its kind in Canada, these volunteers are using groundbreaking technology to reduce the barriers to food rescue.

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Mike Johnston, Executive Producer and producer of “Delta Dawn”, “Curl Power”, “The Interceptors”, and “Overtime.”

💬 “I would cite two moments as the most memorable: First, the World Premiere of “Curl Power” at Hot Docs in 2024. The film was well attended and well received and it was great to see the film have such a great World Premiere after such a lengthy and complex production and post-production process. Secondly, there was a screening of The Interceptors that Ben conducted in conjunction with TJ’s organizations at the False Creek Yacht Club this past May. It had been sometime since I had seen the film so it was great to see it on a bigger screen in front of TJ’s supporters and the community the film was made for. And not to mention, TJ cooked some awesome food!”

📽️ “Delta Dawn” explores the journey of Indigenous wrestling sensation Dawn Murphy, aka “Princess Delta Dawn”, who rose to fame in the 1980s and became the first Indigenous and Canadian woman to compete in Japan at just 17.

Check out the newly released TELUS original film, “Delta Dawn”” now out on TELUS Optik TV channel 8, TELUS Stream+ and online for free at watch.telusoriginals.com.

We are thrilled to spotlight out next , Rebecca Campbell!

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Rebecca Campbell, Director and Producer of “The Secret Society” and “Pain & Offering.”

💬 “It’s been fun working with the TELUS team, which has changed over the years – and getting to know them in different ways. They’ve always been so supportive of me as a filmmaker and really gave me the chance to develop my skills and broaden my horizons. When my feature premiered in Whistler, the TELUS team came out in full support, which was really special. They later showed up for my community screening in Vancouver also. And just last Fall it was so nice to see their friendly faces when they came to visit our community. I know that the TELUS team really cares about their filmmakers – it’s really evident. I’m so thankful to them!”

📽️ About “ The Secret Society”: The Secret Society shines a light on a hidden and unacknowledged women’s health crisis. Complicating the already stressful and stigmatized world of infertility, women who are unable to conceive because their eggs are no longer viable are forced to take their medical needs into their own hands only to discover that Canadian law criminalizes payment to anyone who wants to use an egg donor.

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Liz Marshall, Director and co-producer of “s-yéwyáw / AWAKEN”

💬 “It was incredible working with TELUS originals on this project. Christina Willings and the team fully and deeply supported our vision and aims throughout production, and provided helpful feedback along the way. The memorable highlight is how quickly we entered production, how respected we felt, and how collaborative our release campaign was. A real team experience.”

📽️ About “s-yéwyáw / AWAKEN”: Ecko Aleck of the Nlaka’pamux Nation (Lytton, BC,) Alfonso Salinas of the shíshálh Nation (Sunshine Coast, BC,) and Charlene SanJenko of Splatsin of the Secwépemc Nation (Shuswap, BC,) are learning and documenting the traditional cultural teachings and legacies of their Elders, including the impacts of genocide resulting from Canada’s Indian Residential School (IRS) system. Calling the audience’s attention to the filmmaking process of narrative collaboration between an Indigenous and settler team, this character-driven documentary connects the transformative stories of three Indigenous multimedia changemakers and their four Elders.

Next up, we are excited to spotlight , Scott Harper!

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Scott Harper, Director and Producer of “Golden: The End of Ageism”

💬 “Of many memorable highlights working with our colleagues at TELUS originals, was the happy coming together of a creative vision for the film. As ever, a good subject is one thing, making it into a great story is another, and for that, you need a good team. Christina Willings and Kelly Fox were key in helping shape, focus and ultimately share our narrative with a receptive audience worldwide.

As filmmakers themselves, they recognized that laying out the difficult problem of ageism would just be a starting point, and that to resonate with people we needed to offer some answers. ‘Name and blame’ – an expression I had not hear before – would only take us so far! To that end we worked hard together to make sure the film offers a lift, some hope and some direction for affecting real change in a troubling and often ignored aspect of modern life.”

📽️ About “Golden: The End of Ageism”: If you’re over a certain age, you may have already experienced it. The painful realization you’ve been discriminated against due to age. Finally, powerful movements are afoot to tackle this profound social problem.

We are thrilled to showcase our next , Heather Mosher!

We asked: What is a memorable highlight while working with the TELUS originals team?

⭐Spotlight on: Heather Mosher, Director and Producer of “Not Alone”

💬 “When I worked with TELUS on my documentary ‘Not Alone’ – a film about grief, loss, and trauma in the mountains - it was a big step in my career, and TELUS’ support and belief in the project made the film possible. Throughout the process of making my film, I felt really supported by the relationship I had with my Executive Producer, who made himself available to guide me through every step of the process as I grappled with both the challenging subject matter of my film, and the difficulties of filmmaking during COVID. TELUS made a concerted effort to support films that are both diverse and locally reflective. It means a lot that they put money into supporting Canadian storytelling and making sure that creators own their IP. The support of TELUS originals is making a significant contribution to Canadian filmmaking, and I’m proud to have been a part of this program.”

📽️ About “Not Alone”: After an ice climbing avalanche takes the life of her close friend, professional athlete and alpine guide Sarah Hueniken is shattered. In an attempt to reconnect with her life in the mountains, she takes on a huge link-up of remote winter climbs - but healing is about a lot more than just climbing.
